Empire Building With Infinite Warehouse-Chapter 113: Cost-Effective Combat
The red emergency lights completely washed out the dim emergency bulbs, turning the small interrogation room into a strobing nightmare.
The two elite guards standing right behind the blonde secretary did not even hesitate to react to the screaming sirens tearing through the bunker.
They brought their assault rifles up to their shoulders in unison, acting like perfectly trained soldiers ready to eliminate any threat inside the restricted zone without asking a single question or waiting for an explanation.
But they usually expect their targets to take cover, panic, or surrender when a gun gets pointed right at their faces.
Kyle was definitely not a normal target by any stretch of the imagination.
Instead of backing away from the barrels of the guns, the mercenary let out a roar and charged straight forward across the small room.
He swung his massive black sword in a wide horizontal arc aimed right at the guard standing on the left side of the doorway.
’Well, there goes the quiet stealth approach,’ Julien thought to himself, watching Kyle close the distance in a fraction of a second.
The blade smashed right into the guard’s rifle, knocking the barrel upward just as the guy panicked and pulled the trigger.
A loud burst of gunfire ripped into the ceiling, sending sharp chunks of grey debris raining down on everyone standing in the tiny room.
Julien knew he could not just stand there holding his empty hands and watch Kyle fight two armed elites all by himself.
But he did not exactly have any fancy combat skills, cool sword techniques, or offensive magic spells loaded into his system interface to help out his friends.
He just had a stockpile of accumulated system points and an infinite storage space full of completely random items.
So he decided to get a little creative with his unique business model.
Julien focused his mind and opened his system shop screen, completely ignoring the expensive weapons and high-tier defensive gear because he did not have time to read the complicated stat descriptions.
He bought a wooden barrel of expired chilli powder and a dozen cheap theatrical smoke bombs meant for a magic trick and used his spatial inventory to spawn the entire order directly above the second guard’s helmet.
The soldier was just lining up his sights on Kyle’s broad back when a shadow suddenly appeared out of thin air right above him.
The barrel dropped like a solid boulder, crashing directly onto the elite guard with a loud wooden crunch.
It’s impact shattered the barrel and immediately triggered all twelve cheap smoke bombs at exactly the same time.
A massive cloud of red, incredibly spicy smoke exploded outward, completely blinding the guard and filling that entire corner of the room.
"Did you just make a spicy smoke bomb?" Maya yelled over the blaring sirens, coughing slightly as she ducked under the thick red cloud and kept her dagger ready.
"It is cost-effective compared to buying actual military flashbangs!" Julien shouted back, swiping his hand rapidly across the glowing blue interface to buy another completely ridiculous batch of cheap novelty items.
The first guard managed to push Kyle’s sword away and tried to swing the heavy butt of his rifle around to hit him right in the jaw. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
But Julien was already perfectly prepared to ruin that guy’s entire day.
He purchased a bundle of rejected slime potions that were normally sold to pranksters and spawned five glass bottles right over the guard’s helmet.
The bottles shattered perfectly on impact, dumping gallons of glowing neon pink slime all over the guard’s chest armour.
He totally lost his grip on his rifle because his armoured gloves were instantly covered in the slippery mess and slid backwards across the concrete floor, waving his arms around like a confused turtle trying to find its balance.
Kyle took immediate advantage of the ridiculous distraction.
He kicked the guard’s legs right out from under him, grabbed the front of his slippery armour, and threw him right through the open doorway.
The guard crashed hard into the concrete wall across the hallway and slumped to the ground completely unconscious.
Aiden just sat on the edge of the iron table, staring at the red smoke and the glowing pink slime scattered everywhere with a deeply concerned expression on his freshly healed face.
"Who exactly did you bring to rescue me?" Aiden asked slowly, looking at Julien like he was an absolute lunatic.
"I am a businessman, and this is just how I handle aggressive negotiations," Julien replied with a quick shrug, cancelling the system screen and pointing toward the open door.
"Let us get out of this box before they decide to throw a real grenade in here!"
Aiden did not argue with that logic.
He hopped off the table, grabbed the discarded assault rifle off the slippery floor, and checked the magazine with surprisingly steady hands for a guy who was chained to a table just five minutes ago.
Julien ran out of the cell right behind Kyle and Aiden.
Maya was right on her heels, constantly checking their blind spots to make sure nobody was sneaking up on them through the strobing red lights.
They spilt out into the main maintenance corridor, leaving the unconscious guards and the horrible smell of spicy smoke far behind them.
The blonde secretary was completely gone.
She had clearly sprinted down the hallway toward safety the exact second she slapped the emergency alarm on the wall.
As they sprinted past the small security checkpoint, the two guards who were previously sleeping at the cheap folding table were just starting to wake up.
They were groggy and confused, fumbling blindly for the assault rifles they dropped on the floor.
Kyle did not even slow his massive strides down.
He just lowered his broad shoulder and bulldozed right through the cheap folding table like a runaway freight train.
The heavy impact sent the two guards flying backwards into the concrete wall along with all their empty coffee cups, crumpled snack wrappers, and scattered paperwork.
They hit the ground in a messy heap and did not try to get back up again.
"Nice block," Aiden commented dryly, keeping his stolen rifle aimed forward as they continued their sprint.
"Do not stop running until we see the alleyway," Maya yelled, taking the lead and pushing her speed to the absolute limit.
But that hopeful idea died an incredibly fast death as they rounded the final corner of the long maintenance wing.
The screaming sirens had done their job perfectly.
They woke up every single soldier in the entire restricted sector. As Julien looked down the long stretch of the corridor, the heavy steel door at the far end suddenly pushed wide open. A dozen more heavily armed elite soldiers poured right into the narrow space.
The soldiers quickly dropped onto their knees and took cover behind the random supply carts and wooden boxes scattered along the walls. They locked down the entire hallway in a matter of seconds.
Every single one of them aimed their high-grade weapons directly at the small rescue group standing right in the middle of the corridor.
"Drop your weapons and get on the ground right now!" the lead soldier screamed over the blaring alarms, keeping his rifle pointed dead centre at Kyle’s massive chest.
Kyle just grunted angrily, gripping his black sword tighter and taking a protective step in front of the group.
He looked like he was seriously considering charging a dozen guns all by himself just to see what would happen.
