Empire Building With Infinite Warehouse-Chapter 114: Two Fatal Options
The lead soldier did not even bother waiting for a verbal answer to his loud command.
He just took one look at Kyle gripping his giant sword and instantly realised the guy was never going to surrender.
So the soldier yelled an order, and the entire firing squad pulled their triggers at the same time.
The sound of a dozen high-grade assault rifles firing inside a narrow concrete tunnel was honestly the loudest thing Julien had ever heard in his entire life.
The noise echoed off the walls and made his ears ring instantly.
But Kyle, instead of diving for cover like a normal person, planted his boots firmly on the floor and swung his broad black sword right in front of him.
Sparks flew everywhere as a wave of bullets slammed right into the flat side of his blade
The impact pushed Kyle back a few inches, but he held his ground and grunted loudly under the heavy pressure.
Julien did not waste a single second standing around to watch the crazy sword trick.
He grabbed Maya by the shoulder and pulled her behind a tipped-over medical cart resting against the wall.
Aiden dove right in after them, sliding on his knees across the dirty floor just as a line of bullets completely chewed up the concrete wall where they had been standing a second ago.
’This is a total nightmare,’ Julien thought to himself, pressing his back hard against the thin metal cart and trying to make himself as small as possible.
’We are actually going to die in a dirty hallway because I tried to fight an army with expired chilli powder and a wooden bucket.’
He peeked around the edge of the cart and saw Kyle still blocking the main doorway.
But the mercenary was definitely struggling to keep up with the endless stream of bullets.
A stray shot grazed Kyle’s leather armour, tearing a long hole right across his shoulder.
He hissed in pain and took another heavy step backwards.
Julien opened his system shop interface again, scrolling frantically through the cheap merchant pages to find a magical solution.
Julien could throw a million smoke bombs and slippery slime potions down the hallway, but it would not stop those soldiers from simply holding their triggers down and spraying the entire corridor blindly until everyone was dead.
They were totally pinned down, and a frontal assault was completely out of the question.
Aiden leaned around the other side of the cart and fired three quick bursts from his stolen rifle to buy Kyle some breathing room.
The elite soldiers just ducked behind their riot shields and waited for the quick volley to end before returning fire.
Aiden pulled the trigger again, but the rifle just clicked empty. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
He cursed loudly and threw the useless plastic gun across the floor.
"We cannot stay here!" Aiden shouted over the deafening noise, grabbing the collar of Julien’s shirt and pulling him closer so he could hear him.
"They have enough ammo to keep shooting until the roof literally falls on our heads!"
"I am very open to suggestions right now!" Julien yelled back, pulling his head down as another spray of bullets shattered the glass vials scattered all over the floor around them.
Aiden pointed a bloody finger down the opposite end of the maintenance corridor.
Right past the broken prison cells, there was a set of reinforced blast doors painted with faded yellow warning stripes. It looked completely sealed shut with iron bars and heavy electronic locks.
"That is the secondary access door," Aiden explained quickly, wiping a thick layer of concrete dust out of his eyes.
"The crazy doctor and his guards drag me through that exact door every few days to run tests. It connects straight into the main garage where they keep that weird glowing green anomaly."
Julien stared at the heavy yellow doors and felt his stomach do an uncomfortable flip.
Going into the main garage meant walking right into Commander Lena’s personal territory. It meant facing a paranoid warlord who was actively trying to start an interdimensional war.
But staying in this narrow hallway meant getting shot to pieces in about thirty seconds when Kyle finally dropped his heavy sword from pure exhaustion.
It was a terrible choice between two highly fatal options, so Julien picked the one that at least got them moving forward.
"Kyle!" Julien screamed at the top of his lungs, hoping the mercenary could hear him over the constant gunfire.
"Change of plans! We are going through the yellow doors right behind us!"
Kyle glanced over his shoulder for a split second and saw the blast doors at the end of the hall. He gave a quick nod of understanding.
"Cover my back!" Kyle roared.
Maya immediately stepped out from behind the medical cart and threw three of her small throwing knives straight down the hallway.
The sharp blades bounced harmlessly off the enemy riot shields, but it made the soldiers flinch just long enough for Kyle to turn his back and sprint toward the yellow doors.
Julien reached into his inventory and tossed his last two magic trick smoke bombs right into the middle of the corridor to block the soldiers’ line of sight.
Red smoke instantly filled the narrow space again, hiding their desperate escape route.
Kyle did not even bother slowing down as he approached the blast doors.
He gripped his giant black sword with both hands and raised it high above his head.
His arms suddenly glowed with a bright white system light as he activated one of his heavy combat skills.
"Get out of the way!" Kyle shouted, bringing the massive blade down with everything he had.
The black sword smashed right into the centre of the reinforced doors. The loud impact sounded like a bomb going off inside the closed space. The iron bars bent completely in half, and the heavy electronic locks shattered into a dozen broken pieces.
Both sides of the blast door ripped right out of the concrete wall and fell backwards with a deafening crash, kicking up a massive cloud of dust and debris.
"Go, go, go!" Julien yelled, pushing Aiden and Maya forward through the newly opened hole in the wall.
They all scrambled over the broken doors and tumbled right into the next room just as a fresh wave of bullets tore through the red smoke and chewed up the hallway right where they were just standing.
Julien hit the ground hard and rolled onto his back, gasping for air and trying to calm his racing heart.
He blinked a few times to clear the dust from his eyes and slowly looked around the new area. They were no longer sitting in a dark, dirty maintenance tunnel.
The air in this room felt completely different, humming with a strange, heavy energy that made the hair on Julien’s arms stand straight up.
He sat up and realised they had crashed directly into the massive, brightly lit military garage.
And sitting right there in the very centre of the massive room, swirling with bright and terrifying light, was the giant Green Gate.
