Chapter 112: Alice’s Brother

Julien grabbed his jaw with both hands, tasting blood in his mouth.

He stumbled backwards into Kyle’s chest while trying to process what just happened.

Aiden was already pulling his left arm hard against the iron chains, acting completely feral and totally ready to throw another heavy punch despite his severe injuries.

’This guy hits like a truck,’ Julien thought to himself, shaking his head to clear the dizzy spell.

’I just saved him from a permanent dirt nap, and this is the thanks I get.’

"Wait, stop right there!" Julien yelled out loud, holding his hands up defensively to block another incoming swing.

"We know Alice! Alice sent us here to find you!"

Aiden froze completely in place.

His bloody fist was literally an inch away from Kyle’s drawn sword.

The wild, cornered animal look in his eyes instantly vanished, quickly replaced by shock and confusion.

"Alice?" Aiden rasped, his voice sounding exactly like dry sandpaper scraping across wood.

"My sister? You know her?"

"Yes, she is completely safe," Julien confirmed quickly, rubbing his sore jaw to make sure nothing was permanently broken.

"She is staying at the districts. We broke into this crazy military base specifically to get you out."

Aiden stared at him for a long second, his eyes narrowing slightly as he processed the sudden information.

"Is she well?"

"Yeah, she’s good. You’d be surprised to know she has a boyfriend now," Julien replied with a small, reassuring smile.

Aiden let out a long, shaky breath and let his arm drop heavily to the table.

He leaned his head back against the cold iron, closing his eyes as a wave of pure relief washed over his bruised face.

"Thank you," Aiden whispered simply, sounding like a guy who just got pulled back from the edge of despair.

"Save the thanks until we are actually standing outside the walls," Maya interrupted, stepping right up to the table and pulling two metal lockpicks from her dark cloak.

She went to work on the deadbolts, holding his legs and left arm.

The locks clicked open one by one under her fast, expert hands.

As soon as the last chain hit the floor, Aiden’s unique system skill finally kicked into high gear.

The cheap healing potion Julien forced down his throat gave his exhausted body exactly enough mana to start working on the massive backlog of damage.

It was honestly one of the most disgusting things Julien had ever witnessed in his entire life.

Aiden let out a muffled groan through his gritted teeth.

His completely shattered left forearm suddenly snapped straight with a loud, wet crunching sound that echoed terribly in the small room.

The deep cuts on his chest started bubbling and knitting together right in front of their eyes. Julien actually took a step back as he listened to several of Aiden’s broken ribs popping loudly back into their proper places under his skin.

’I am really glad I did not eat a big dinner before coming down here,’ Julien thought to himself, feeling a little sick to his stomach as the rapid healing process finished putting the poor guy back together.

Aiden sat up slowly on the edge of the table, rolling his freshly healed shoulders and wiping a thick layer of dried blood off his face.

He still looked incredibly tired and worn out, but his dark purple bruises were completely gone.

"Okay, we need to move out of here right now," Aiden warned them, his voice sounding much clearer and stronger than before as he hopped off the table.

"They keep me on a very strict schedule down here. They come into this room to drain two pints of my blood every single couple of hours to make their weird science experiments."

Julien checked his system clock floating in his peripheral vision.

They had wasted a lot of valuable time sneaking past Kyle’s clumsy mistakes in the dark hallways.

"When exactly was the last time they drained you?" Julien asked, feeling a sudden spike of anxiety hit his chest.

"I honestly lose track of time in that weird healing coma," Aiden muttered, looking over at the heavy reinforced door with a paranoid expression.

"But usually, the blonde lady comes down here right after the night shift changes to collect the fresh samples."

Julien and Maya locked eyes in panic.

The night shift changed right before they sent the blood clone to open the back door.

"We need to leave this room right this second," Kyle grunted, gripping his black sword tightly and taking a heavy step toward the exit.

But they were way too late.

Before Kyle could even reach for the broken door handle, footsteps echoed loudly in the quiet concrete hallway right outside.

Someone was walking very fast, and they were definitely not trying to be stealthy at all.

Julien froze completely in place.

He looked frantically around the small interrogation room, but there were absolutely no hiding spots.

It was just four bare concrete walls, a bloody iron table, and a locked medical cabinet. They were totally trapped in a tiny box with no other way out.

The reinforced door swung wide open, hitting the wall with a loud bang.

The real blonde secretary stepped right into the room, holding her digital writing pad in one hand and adjusting her glasses with the other.

Two elite guards followed closely behind her, holding their high-grade assault rifles ready across their heavy armor.

The entire room went dead silent.

The secretary stopped right in her tracks. Her flat, professional eyes swept across the tiny room, taking in the impossible scene unfolding right in front of her.

She looked at the broken chains resting on the floor.

She looked at Aiden sitting up on the table, completely healed, at Kyle holding a giant sword, and Julien and Maya standing by the wall.

Julien tried to put his greedy merchant smile back on to smooth things over, but his brain was completely blank.

He had absolutely no lies left to tell that would explain why he was standing inside a top-secret prison cell.

The blonde secretary slowly opened her hand.

Her expensive digital pad slipped right through her fingers and hit the concrete floor with a sharp crack, shattering the glass screen into a dozen pieces.

She did not even say a single word to them and just took a fast step backwards into the hallway and slapped her palm hard against a red emergency button mounted on the wall.

A siren instantly started screaming through the entire military bunker, flashing blinding red lights across the dark corridor and completely blowing their stealth cover into a million pieces.
