Chapter 76: Shit... I am becoming sentimental

The Yin-Yang symbol floating above Huojin’s remains exploded abruptly. Instead of dissipating, it transformed into a binary light vortex, half pure white purifying, half electric violet. The atmosphere suddenly became heavy, every particle of air charging with sacred electricity meant to punish the sacrilege.

Purple and white lightning fell in cascades from the vortex, striking the ground. Each impact purified the surrounding Khao, erasing any trace of the Celestial Demon’s presence. The lightning seemed endowed with its own will, ignoring the debris to specifically target Long Huang.

He raised his hands, his silver hair turning black.

< Explosion of Primordial Chaotic Qi >

A purple and black shockwave burst from his body, creating a Chaotic Qi barrier meant to intercept the divine lightning rushing toward the duo.

Yet, to his great stupefaction, the lightning passed through his defense. The barrier did not even slow down the fall of the sacred lightning. The Dao was not trying to break a physical protection, it was trying to strike the murderer’s soul.

While the most massive lightning, a lance of pure white light, was about to impale him, a silhouette interposed itself.

Long Huang threw herself in front of him, her draconic wings deploying to form a shield of flesh and black flames.

She let out a roar that made the foundations of reality tremble.

< Roar of the Black Dragoness of the Origins > in an attempt to deflect the blow.

The impact was of incredible violence. Long Huang’s draconic body was struck head-on. BaiShe watched helplessly as the black scales of the dragoness shattered under the pressure of the sacred light.

The smell of burnt flesh became unbearable as the lightning carbonized her tissues and broke her black horns one after another.

Silence fell brutally on the ruins, broken only by the crackling of the residual flames. The celestial vortex evaporated, its mission accomplished.

BaiShe caught Long Huang before she touched the ground. Her body, once so imposing and provocative, was now nothing but a smoking and broken mass in his arms. Her horns, symbols of her draconic pride, lay in pieces on the ground.

For the first time since his regression, BaiShe felt his Omega Heart tighten. It was not love... his heart was incapable of it, but a sensation of loss and guilt that disturbed him deeply. She had taken upon herself the karmic backlash that was meant for him.

Long Huang slightly opened her black eyes, a trail of blood flowing from her mouth. She observed BaiShe’s face, her gaze oscillating between contempt and a strange protective gleam.

"Do not... do not misunderstand... Celestial Demon," she articulated in a labored breath, each word seeming to cost her agony. "You are my property... Only I have the right to kill you..."

She turned her gaze away, her fingers clenching on BaiShe’s black tunic.

"Make sure to survive until then... idiot..." she murmured before her eyelids closed.

The silence became heavy in the debris of the sanctuary. BaiShe remained motionless, kneeling in the middle of the ashes, holding Long Huang against him.

[Ding! The karmic bond with Long Huang has increased by 15% following her sacrifice.]

[Current karmic bond: 85%.]

"Everything is... over..." she murmured, her voice now only a hoarse whistle causing painful vibrations in her Dantian.... And then her breathing stopped.

Xuan BaiShe no longer displayed his usual nonchalant smile.

His face was tense, his silver pupils turning violently to violet as he observed the scene.

Usually, the death of an ally did nothing to him... But at that precise moment, something broke in his Omega Heart, that heart however reputed to be ruthless and incapable of loving.

"Do not close your eyes, you arrogant filthy dragoness..." growled BaiShe.

He did not waste a second. BaiShe threw himself on Huojin, his hands no longer having any of the delicacy of a scholar.

< Arts: Abyss of the Thousand Hungry Hands >

The space around Huojin tore apart brutally. Hundreds of grayish and monstrous arms surged from the cracks in reality, their palms opening onto toothed mouths that began to devour frantically the Qi and vital essence of the Executor. His body, the vessel of the heavenly will, began to wither at a terrifying speed under the influence of Primordial Devouring.

"Go faster!"

BaiShe clenched his teeth.

The process was dangerous. BaiShe felt this raw power, the Authority of the Dao, rushing into his own meridians without having been stabilized. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

His Dantian rumbled, threatening to explode under the pressure of this energy that considered him a heretic.

Cracks began to appear on his forearms, but he ignored the pain. He needed this power.

BaiShe rushed toward Long Huang. He lifted her without gentleness, feeling how light her body had become, emptied of its vital force.

"Hold on," he ordered, as he ran toward the center of the sanctuary.

In one fluid movement, he threw the dragoness’s body into the Source of Rebirth, that Golden Jade Lake that Huojin had kept for his own resurrection.

The golden water surged at the contact with Long Huang’s bruised flesh. But the lake did not react. The Dao seal rejected the dragoness’s presence, considering her a cursed creature unworthy of resurrection.

"Shit... the lake refuses to activate for her..." realized BaiShe, his strategist mind desperately searching for a flaw.

It was then that he used the power he had just ripped from Huojin: the Heavenly Will. He closed his eyes, letting the Yin-Yang symbol on his forehead shine.

"Kuh!!"

He spat blood, because he had not yet stabilized the power.

< Law: Authority of the Dao >

"Obey my will and give her back her life!"

The waters boiled furiously under BaiShe’s spiritual pressure. Finally, the laws of the cave bent.

The source began to shine with a blinding glow, enveloping Long Huang in a cocoon of pure and regenerative Qi. Her wounds began to close, and a weak heartbeat, dull and powerful like a war drum, echoed again in her chest.

BaiShe collapsed on one knee at the edge of the basin, panting. The backlash of using an unmastered law burned his lungs.

He wiped his mouth, staining his sleeve with scarlet blood. He surprised himself.

Why had he done all this? Why waste such an invaluable resource as a divine resurrection for an arrogant invocation that spent her time hating him?

"Shit... I am becoming sentimental..." he murmured with a hint of disgust for himself.

The idea of guilt seemed absurd to him. A psychopath like him should only feel satisfaction at the usefulness of a tool, not this weird feeling of oppression in his chest.

It was completely new in his two lives.

[The Karmic Bond increases in percentage because of the mutual sacrifice!]

[Ding! The Karmic Bond is something mutual!]

[It is not only Long Huang who is bound to you. You are also bound to her!]

[The Karmic Bond is at 100%.]

[You have unlocked the memories linked to Long Huang.]

The world around BaiShe disappeared in a whirlwind of white light. He was no longer in the ruins of the Southern Forest. He was no longer Xuan BaiShe, the heir of the Xuan family...

*Era of the Origins... A time before time...*

At a time when there was not yet a celestial demon...
