Chapter 72: Long Huang vs Overlords

As they were only a few dozen meters away from the entrance that Huojin had unlocked, the space in front of them began to ripple.

Five massive silhouettes materialized abruptly, blocking the passage. They wore white-gold armors stamped with the seal of the Dao Temple. The spiritual pressure they released instantly left no doubt about their level: five Overlords.

At the exact moment they sensed BaiShe’s Qi signature... or rather, the Qi of the intruders... the guards activated. Their eyes lit up with a golden glow. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

" Intruders detected... " boomed one of the guards, his voice resounding like a death knell. " You are defiling this area with your impure presence. Retreat or be purified by the will of the Dao. "

BaiShe stopped, adjusting his monocle nonchalantly.

" Purified? " repeated BaiShe with a light melodious laugh. " This young scholar has simply come to discuss with his martial brother. Your manners really leave something to be desired for servants of the Temple. "

Long Huang took a step forward, her ebony hair igniting with swirls of black smoke. Her eyes, pitch black, fixed the guards with murderous intensity.

" Enough chatter, Celestial Demon... " she spat, her voice making the surrounding dantians vibrate. " These Temple dogs only understand force and they no longer have any form of consciousness. Get lost. Enter this cave and settle your scores with that runt of an Executor. I will take care of cleaning this passage. "

Yi Lan moved closer to BaiShe, rubbing her opulent chest against his arm, her pink eyes shining with a sickly obsession.

" Darling... let the dragoness have her fun... " she murmured. " I will keep two for myself, their screams will make a wonderful melody while you retrieve your treasures... "

BaiShe turned his head toward Long Huang. An enigmatic smile stretched his lips.

" Fine... I leave the reception to you then... " he declared.

Without waiting, BaiShe dashed forward, using his supernatural fluidity to bypass the front line. The guards tried to intercept him, but Long Huang released a shockwave of demonic Qi that forced them to stay in place.

" Your opponent is me, vermin! " roared Long Huang.

She faced two guards who had broken away to neutralize her. The fight engaged immediately with incredible brutality. The two Overlords wasted no time with summons. They joined their hands, channeling the authority of the Temple.

< Arts: Pillar of Celestial Purification >

Two columns of pure white light burst from the ground, encircling the dragoness. The sacred heat aimed to burn her demonic essence. But Long Huang did not retreat. She deployed her wings of black flames, absorbing the frontal impact. The ground beneath her feet vitrified instantly under the thermal pressure.

" Is that all the Dao can offer? " she mocked as she charged toward the first guard.

Long Huang did not use any physical weapon, she did not need one; her hands, with nails as sharp as blades, were one of the most powerful weapons there were.

The first Overlord parried a claw strike, but the dragoness’s power sent him reeling back several meters, his boots plowing the rocky ground. The second guard seized the opening to deliver a sword strike of light aimed at Long Huang’s flank.

The blade cut into the flesh at her waist, releasing dark and burning blood. Long Huang did not even grimace. On the contrary, a carnivorous smile appeared on her face.

" You managed to touch me... Congratulations, insect. Now burn. "

< Arts: Combustion of Draconic Pride >

Black flames burst from the wound itself, wrapping around the guard’s blade before climbing up his arm. The Overlord screamed in pain as the demonic fire began to consume not his skin, but his Qi itself. He had to drop his weapon, his gauntlet literally melting on his hand.

The first guard charged back, using a rapid movement technique.

< Law: Decree of the Judge’s Submission >

An invisible shockwave crashed down on Long Huang, trying to force her to kneel. The gravity around her multiplied. The dragoness’s joints cracked, her knees brushing the ground.

" Kneel? " she growled, the veins in her neck bulging under the effort. " A dragon does not kneel before anyone, and certainly not before slaves of your kind! "

She released a tearing cry, infused with her original essence.

< Roar of the Origin Dragon >

The sonic vibration was so intense that the air itself seemed to shatter. The shockwave pulverized the submission domain and sent the two guards flying backward. Their helmets shattered, revealing bloodied faces.

Long Huang gave them no respite. She leaped onto the nearest guard, the one whose arm was already charred. She seized his head with both hands and squeezed. The sound of the skull cracking under the pressure was muffled by the black flames that rushed into the gaps of the armor.

The second Overlord, seeing his companion agonizing, used his ultimate technique. This technique did not normally belong to the people of the Dao Temple. But these guards had received its powers from the previous Dao Executor to protect the place.

< Arts: Vision of Primordial Duality >

A binary beam of light shot from his hands, aiming at the dragoness’s heart. The attack was fast, too fast to be completely avoided at this distance. Long Huang crossed her arms in front of her chest, taking the impact head-on.

The explosion was titanic. A cloud of dust and residual energy masked the scene for a few seconds. The guard, out of breath, thought he had dealt a fatal blow. But from the smoke emerged Long Huang. Her gothic clothes were in tatters, revealing skin marked by burns.

" That was... almost impressive... " she said while spitting a stream of black blood.

She dashed forward again, her speed doubled by rage. The fight became a one-sided massacre. She no longer sought to parry. She took the hits to better tear her opponents’ flesh. She ripped the valid arm off the first guard with such violence that the humerus bone came out of the shoulder.

" Look at yourselves... " she mocked while crushing the second guard’s face against a stone pillar. " You die for a master who does not even care about your existence. "

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the cave, Yi Lan was taking care of the three other guards with terrifying efficiency, her pink mirror shards slicing through space and bodies with metronome regularity.

BaiShe, for his part, was already far away. He plunged into the depths of the cavern, guided by the sonic echoes of the tracking pill. He heard Huojin gloating in front of the Golden Jade Lake.

" Keep having fun outside... The main dish is waiting for me. "
