Chapter 48: Stay Back BaiShe!

The sound of a slap echoed in the corridor, cutting off his insult. The blow was so violent that Guo Jian’s head was thrown to the side, reopening the wound on his cheek.

A few meters away, the maids who were passing by stopped dead, their eyes wide. Lady Hue Qing, the very model of docility and shyness, had just slapped her own fiancé in public.

"I believe we have nothing more to say to each other,"

"Get out of my house, Guo Jian. You are no longer welcome here."

At the same moment, Patriarch Hue appeared at the end of the corridor. His imposing Qi instantly saturated the space, forcing the maids to bow deeply.

"What is going on here!?" thundered the Patriarch, fixing the young man. "Guo Jian, I have always maintained good relations with your father, but today you have crossed the bounds of what is acceptable. Insulting my daughter in my own residence?"

He turned toward the guards who had just arrived.

"Guards! Throw him out immediately! Let him never set foot here again until he has learned the meaning of the word respect,"

Guo Jian roared with frustration and shame as the guards seized him roughly. They carried him away like a mangy dog.

"I will never forget this affront!" he shouted one last time, his voice fading into the depths of the gardens as the massive doors of the residence closed on him.

"Guo Jian tires me, father," she began, her voice devoid of any trace of the affection she once held for him. "I have had more than enough of him. His arrogance is matched only by his stupidity."

"Do not worry, my daughter," he replied in a pragmatic tone. "With his impulsive temperament and his total lack of discernment in the face of true powers, he will not last long in this world of cultivators. He survived today only by the simple grace of Young Master Xuan." He paused.

"So, how did it go with the young master?"

Qing’er sighed.

"It will never work, father... as I thought. He already has a companion by his side, a woman of such power and beauty that I cannot match for now."

She lowered her eyes, a hint of regret in her voice. "And besides, I would not like to abuse his kindness. He is very different from the young immortals we usually encounter. He possesses an exceptional nobility and restraint."

"Hmm. This is not necessarily a bad thing, my daughter. Quite the contrary."

"I have certain contacts in the Upper Realm. It turns out that Young Master Xuan BaiShe comes from a lineage of immortal families whose very origin is considered unfathomable, even in the most restricted circles. That is why he possesses such a noble education and such pure Qi."

He rummaged in the sleeve of his tunic and took out a small gourd.

"What is this?" she asked as she took the object.

"Something that will guarantee you stay by his side, permanently,"

Qing’er took a step back, her black eyes widening in shock as she understood the implication of her father’s words.

"Father, I cannot do that..."

"Listen, Qing’er!" cut in the Patriarch, his features hardening.

"Even if you do not want to do it for our family or for the glory of the Crimson Sect... Do it for your mother. If you manage to join the Upper Kingdom under his protection, with access to his resources and his immense influence, I know you will reach heights inaccessible with your talent."

He moved closer to her: "Do you not want to avenge her? Do you not want to make those who tore her from us pay?"

Qing’er remained silent.

"Yes, father. I still want to avenge my mother’s death, but..."

"Then hold this aphrodisiac liqueur," insisted the Patriarch as he closed his daughter’s fingers around the gourd.

"It is an undetectable mixture. When he has taken your virginity, driven by the effects of this liqueur, his nobility and his sense of honor will force him to keep you by his side. He will be compelled to take you at least as an official concubine, which will open the doors of the Xuan family to you."

Qing’er hesitated for another moment. Her trembling fingers rose to her neck to touch the jade necklace her mother had given her before she died.

Suddenly, the expression on her face changed radically. The shyness disappeared, replaced by icy determination.

’I must become more powerful at all costs!’ she thought fiercely.

’No matter the means, if this is the price to pay to crush my enemies, I will do it.’

She firmly seized the gourd and slipped it into her belt. The Patriarch, satisfied with this change of attitude, patted his daughter’s head.

"Good. This is how an heiress must act. So, how is your cultivation progressing these days?"

"I have stagnated for some time at the Spiritual Core Peak stage. But I will probably be ready for the annual competition."

Hue Qing’s expression was then completely different, as if another person had taken possession of her body.

However, it was simply the manifestation of her bipolar nature. Behind the fragile jade beauty hid a woman ready to go to any extreme to achieve her goals of vengeance.

"Very well," concluded the Patriarch. "Go and prepare yourself. Young Master Xuan will not stay forever in this lower kingdom. Make sure he can never forget you again."

*The Forbidden Ruins of the Southern Forest, Purple Mist Kingdom.*

It had now been two days since BaiShe and the Holy Templar had been venturing deeper into the southern forest. The place, once the cradle of a flourishing civilization whose name had been lost, was now nothing more than a cemetery of stone and roots.

It was obvious, given the scale of the destruction, that the rakshasas had been the main architects of this ruin.

"This place is saturated with Khao, BaiShe," observed Zhi Mei without turning around.

"A pertinent observation, Miss Mei," replied BaiShe in a melodious tone.

Suddenly, a roar tore through the silence. From the top of the stone arches overlooking the path, a dozen massive shadows leaped.

They were Rakshasas, their muscular bodies covered in whitish skin and their faces hidden behind sinister porcelain masks. Among them, several sported five horns, specimens whose power would have felled any group of ordinary cultivators from this kingdom.

Zhi Mei showed not the slightest hesitation. As a 5th stage Overlord, her martial superiority was overwhelming.

She released her azure blue Qi.

"Stay back, BaiShe! Your heart would not withstand such intensity!" she ordered as she lunged forward.
