Dragged Into Another World Because of My Otaku Friend-Chapter 85: Power Loss
Chapter 85: Power Loss
The light was so bright, I was nearly blinded, disoriented for a moment.
I looked around. The robed figure near the Kaoslith was now slumped against it, sitting with his back on the crystal.
"Ha... ha... ha..."
"Hahahaha!" The robed figure laughed madly.
"Why are you laughing? What did you just do?" Beltimore demanded.
"All of you should be grateful... to become the first ones to test the power of this new Kaoslith!" he cackled.
What is he talking about? New Kaoslith? My mind struggled to process what was happening.
"Daria!" the robed man shouted.
A figure suddenly dropped from above, landing directly on the Kaoslith. Another one in a hooded robe. She rose from a crouched position and threw off her robe.
Underneath it was a woman with black hair, wearing light armor, almost like a sports outfit, with tight short pants ending just above her knees. She was smirking confidently.
"A girl?" Bob muttered in surprise.
"Tch... another one still alive," Beltimore said, clearly annoyed.
The woman then reached behind her back with both hands.
All of us flinched, bracing for an attack.
She drew two slim swords, one in each hand.
Her eyes glinted, with intent to kill.
"Prepare yourselves to be slaughtered in the name of darkness," she said coldly.
Instinctively, I reached for my neck. I did not want to be slaughtered, especially not for some so-called "darkness cause."
The girl scanned all of us with sharp eyes before suddenly leaping into the air.
Usually, when someone jumps, there’s a moment of floating before gravity pulls them down. But not this girl. She dropped like a stone, like gravity itself bowed to her command.
She landed with a sharp strike aimed at Beltimore, who narrowly dodged her attack.
This mysterious girl, Daria, kept her focus on Beltimore, slashing at him again and again. But something was wrong,Beltimore did not counterattack. There was no sign of his usual icy spells.
"What’s wrong, Beltimore?! Use your ice magic!" Bob shouted, waving his hands like a child pretending to cast spells.
I looked at Beltimore’s face. He appeared calm... but beneath that calm, I could see the strain. He was struggling.
"Something’s off," Alice said, narrowing her eyes.
She raised her hand, preparing to activate her signature spell. But then, nothing. Not even a flicker of golden light.
"I can’t use magic." she said, alarmed.
Bob and I turned to her, stunned.
For the first time, I saw true worry on Alice’s face, not her usual calm and stoic boredom, but real concern. frёewebnoѵēl.com
I understood that feeling. Because I have felt it twice.
Is this because of the purple light just now?
If that’s true, then this Kaoslith is far more dangerous than the one in Lily Town. To suppress magic itself... that would leave even powerful adventurers helpless against group of goblins.
But there’s one thing I do not understand.
I’m still holding Indra in my hand. Bob still has his dual swords. If we were affected like Alice and Beltimore, shouldn’t we have lost access to our weapons too?
There’s only one way to test it.
I shifted Indra into its Gun form and aimed directly at Daria. Both hands steady on the grip.
Bob noticed my intent immediately.
"Beltimore! Get out of the way!" he shouted.
Beltimore looked at us, then noticed me aiming at Daria. Without hesitation, he leapt to the side, putting distance between himself and the girl.
Daria glanced at me and smirked.
"You think your little toy can hit me? Don’t insult me," she scoffed.
But before she could finish the smug grin, I cast the spell.
"Ice Shard!"
From the tip of my gunblade, a glowing blue magic circle spun into existence, and a large chunk of jagged ice blasted forward, whistling through the air with high speed.
"What?!" Daria’s eyes widened.
"That’s impossible!" the robed figure still leaning against the Kaoslith gasped in disbelief.
’How can he still cast magic?! This Kaoslith should suppress all mana in the area!’ he thought, his face pale.
The Ice Shard hurtled straight at Daria. It was fast, but not quite fast enough. She managed to dodge at the last moment, flipping onto a nearby ledge.
Alice and Beltimore stared at me, visibly shocked. Especially Beltimore. I could already see it in his eyes: I would have a lot of explaining to do after this.
Daria glared down at me from the ledge, her face twisted in anger.
And I could see it, clearly.
She was no longer underestimating me.
"Alan, looks like we’re the only ones with magic still intact. Let’s fight her together," Bob said.
"I was planning to," I replied.
"Alice, Beltimore ,please try to find a way to reverse this condition. Me and Alan will hold her off," Bob added, taking a stance.
"To think a newbie is giving me orders..." Alice muttered, shaking her head.
"Well, in this situation, we are pretty useless right now," Beltimore admitted. "Alice, you know more about the Kaoslith than anyone. Maybe you can find something useful from this one."
He turned to us. "Alan, Bob... our lives depend on you right now."
"Hey, we’re not that weak without magic," Alice shot back.
"I know," Beltimore said, adjusting his glasses, "but that enemy is no ordinary fighter. I’d wager she’s at least A-rank."
I looked toward Daria. She had not moved, just stood there silently, watching us with those sharp eyes.
A-rank. Just one level below S-rank. This won’t be easy.
We split up.
Bob and I moved toward Daria, while Alice and Beltimore headed to the Kaoslith.
"You think you can reverse the effects of this Kaoslith? Hah... all the best to you," one of the robed figures sneered at them.
"Just keep quiet... or I’ll end your life," Alice said, her cold eyes staring him down.
She then placed her hand on the Kaoslith, examining its surface closely. Beltimore stood beside her, focused.
On the other side, Bob and I stood face-to-face with Daria.
"Dude, let’s do the Gun and Slash move like we did against that bull monster," Bob said with a grin.
"But that time we were in Grace Hero form. I don’t know if I can pull it off now... plus, we’re running low on stamina," I said, trying to be realistic.
"Just do it. If things go south, we’ll activate our Hero Grace form. I can still use it a few more times today," Bob said confidently.
Daria narrowed her eyes as we whispered our plan. Clearly irritated, she lunged, closing the gap in an instant.
The fight had begun.
