Chapter 41: Chapter 41: True Love

Eldoria, Valor Hospital.

Maggie Monroe held a mirror, looking at her hairless reflection.

Tears eventually betrayed her and streamed down her face.

Aiden Avery, tiredly pinching the bridge of his nose, patiently tried to console her. "Maggie, your hair is gone, but it can grow back."

"I know, FinnAiden, but why hasn’t Tristan called me yet? Does he find me disgusting now...?" She knew her hair could grow back; she was just afraid that Tristan would be repulsed by how she looked and leave her.

"No, Tristan’s company just landed a huge contract, so he’s going to be pretty busy for a while. He’ll come see you once things calm down."

"Oh, is that so..." ’Is his company really that busy? Whenever I had surgery before, Tristan would always come be with me, no matter how busy he was. But now, I’ve been here for days, and he hasn’t come to see me at all.’

Aiden Avery reached out and snatched the mirror from her hand. His face was stern as he said, seriously and gravely, "Your surgery is tomorrow. Don’t overthink things. Get some rest."

Maggie knew that whenever FinnAiden spoke like that, it meant he had lost the patience to coddle her. He wasn’t discussing it with her; he was giving her an order.

So, even though she had so many more questions, she could only suppress them.

’No matter how difficult tomorrow’s surgery is, I will get through it. For Tristan, I will live a good life.’

Only after watching Maggie close her eyes did Aiden Avery leave the hospital room.

As he closed the door, he sighed to himself. ’I really don’t know how Tristan can stand a woman like her.’

’If it weren’t for how desperately Tristan fought for her, I wouldn’t have gotten involved in taking care of this woman at all.’

For the past few days, all she ever asked about was Tristan. When was he coming? Did he know she was here? Had he called her...?

For her, Tristan had a falling out with his family. For her, he quit the entertainment industry. For her, he shouldered the reputation of a heartless scoundrel.

But she had never once shown any concern for Tristan’s situation.

He sat down on a chair in the hallway, pulled his phone out of his pocket, and made a call.

The call had just connected when an impatient male voice came from the other end, "Hello...?" followed by the messy chatter of women.

Hearing the sounds on the other end, Aiden Avery immediately exploded. "Cassian Jennings, I’m going through hell over here, and you actually have the nerve to be messing with girls!"

"Who asked you to go to Eldoria? You deserve it!" Cassian Jennings laughed, kicking him while he was down.

"Piss off! You think I want to be here? If it wasn’t for Tristan, I wouldn’t have come."

Cassian Jennings burst out laughing again. "Haha, FinnAiden, seriously, sometimes I really do wonder if you have a thing for Tristan. Mmm, after all this, now I know. You and Tristan are true love, after all."

"Go to hell! If Tristan finds out you’re joking like this, you’ll be sorry." The fatigue in Aiden Avery’s eyes vanished, swept away by Cassian Jennings’s words.

"Haha, I’m not scared."

"Fine, then I’ll tell Tristan as soon as I get back."

"Hey, come on, don’t do that. It was just a joke. Was it really that serious?"

"It is—" ’Is that any way to joke around? What if neither I nor Tristan can get a wife in the future because of this?’

"Alright, no more joking. Let’s be serious. You called to ask about Tristan, right?"

Hearing Cassian Jennings suddenly turn serious on the other end of the line, Aiden Avery sat up straighter and nodded, his voice low. "Yeah, that’s right. How is Tristan doing now?"
