Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me-Chapter 17: Cooperation
Although Tristan Grayson felt a flicker of doubt, his words remained sharp. "Who knows what a woman like you is thinking."
"What am I thinking? Tristan Grayson, search your conscience and tell me—in the three years we were married, have I ever asked you for a single cent? Have I ever done anything to betray you?" ’If she had really wanted to ruin his relationship with Maggie Monroe, she would have done it long ago, wouldn’t she?’
She hadn’t ruined anything. She had simply followed their agreement, signed the contract with him, become his wife in name only, and played along with his act.
Now he didn’t need her anymore, and they were divorced. But why, after all that, was he still not satisfied? Why did he still have to slander her?
Hearing her words, Tristan Grayson fell silent. He didn’t know whether or not he should believe the woman in front of him.
’In their three years of marriage, she really hadn’t done anything to betray him.’
’But should he believe her just because of that? What if she changed her mind after the divorce?’
’His parents had transferred Maggie Monroe to another hospital and threatened to publicize the fact that he was married to this woman. Was it possible she really knew nothing about any of this?’
’No, he couldn’t believe this woman.’ "Enough of this useless talk," he said. "Tomorrow, you just need to cooperate and play your part."
With her eyes red, Mika Summers looked up and stared at Tristan Grayson.
Seeing his grim, handsome face, she let out a sarcastic laugh. ’He still doesn’t believe me?’
She stood up, ran to the bedroom, and came back with the check Tristan Grayson had given her.
"This is your check. I don’t want it!"
Tristan Grayson stared at the check, finding it to be a complete eyesore. "What’s this? A guilty conscience?"
’A guilty conscience? What do I have to feel guilty about!’ "Tristan Grayson, can you stop being so unreasonable? I just want to prove my innocence! I, Mika Summers, am not the kind of person who lives and breathes for money. I don’t want your one hundred million."
He was stunned into silence. ’Unreasonable? This woman actually dared to call *him* unreasonable! Fine. She doesn’t love money? We’ll just see about that!’
As the thought crossed his mind, his expression grew increasingly grim. He snatched the check from Mika Summers’s hand, tore it to shreds in a few quick rips, and threw the pieces on the floor. "You don’t want it? You’re the one who said it!"
Watching the one-hundred-million-dollar check get torn to shreds just like that felt like a knife to Mika Summers’s heart. She shoved Tristan Grayson away, crouched on the floor, and began picking up the pieces. "You’re insane!"
"You’re the one who said you didn’t want it. Showing your true colors so soon?" He watched her on the floor, then crouched down beside her. A sinister smile played on his lips as he spoke mockingly.
"What do you mean?" Hearing this, the color instantly drained from Mika Summers’s face.
Tristan Grayson reached out and gripped her chin, his voice cold. "If you want the one hundred million, then you’ll play your part for me tomorrow and help me find Maggie Monroe."
"I’m not going to play a part for you. As for Maggie Monroe, I have no idea where she is." Mika Summers slapped his hand away and sat dazedly on the floor. ’He was just toying with me, and I actually believed he had torn up a hundred million. It’s completely laughable.’
Tristan Grayson’s anger flared. He glared at her and snarled through gritted teeth, "I’ll ask you one last time: are you going to cooperate with me, or not!"
"Young Master Grayson, as you can see, you’ve torn up the one-hundred-million-dollar check. Our agreement is hereby terminated. I have no obligation to cooperate with you in any way." ’She couldn’t get tangled up with Tristan Grayson anymore. If this kept up, he would drive her mad.’
