Chapter 30 - Crash and Burn

The wet floor took on a shade of red that was consistently being washed away by the pouring rain.

Ark was bleeding, he was not sure from where but he was sure at least a certain part of his body had been cut.

His head was aching from the fall and his right arm felt weak, bringing him an intense amount of pain each time he tried to move it.

It was most likely dislocated.

All that pain paled in comparison to the pain he felt in his chest, the car had most likely bruised a few of his ribs. Luckily for him, they didn't seem cracked.

If it was a normal person, this crash was more than enough to kill them, but Ark was far from normal.

Curse bearers were considerably more durable than regular people, but Ark was still a fresh curse bearer and his body was far from peak condition, hence his current state.

The door of the car was opened forcefully and five people walked out.

They moved in casual strides, as though they had not just driven their car right into a pedestrian.

It was only when they were finally close enough that Ark realized why.

"Ethan." His voice was low but Ethan had picked up his words.

"What gives someone like you the right to utter my name?" He stared down at Ark in disdain.

"Oh, you think because I was indisposed, you could lay your filthy hands on my people?!"

Boom!

Ethan drove his foot right into Ark's aching gut causing him to writhe in pain.

Blood slowly dropped out of his lips, but Ethan did not relent, instead he applied even more pressure.

"Scum like you should have been wiped out a long time ago." He grabbed Ark's damaged arm, his fingers digging deep into the dislocated shoulder.

The further he dug his fingers, the deeper the pain, but Ark chose to keep it in, instead he gritted his teeth and smiled.

His head was still foggy, and his body aching and yet he tried to speak, only to receive a slap across the cheek.

The boy Ark had stomped then waddled forward and with a gleeful smile drove his leg into Ark's stomach, causing him to cough up more blood.

Ark raised his head and smiled, his teeth caked in blood as he stared right at Ethan.

"... I'll have you pay back in full. It's a promise."

Going against all four of them now was foolishness, he couldn't even stand up properly without stumbling.

But that doesn't mean he was going to let this go...

Ethan's jaw tightened in anger.

"You have some nerve..." Blue sparks suddenly appeared around him, and a second later, his gigantic claymore was nestled in his palms.

"How about you take that promise to the gr—"

Just then, there was a sound of screeching tires. A car diverted from the road and swerved, the driver twisting the steering wheel until the car was sliding horizontally.

There was a flash of light.

Kiera stood at her widow, staring down at the street below. Although modest in size and amenities, the one thing that she loved about the room was the silence, as well as the view.

The town had gotten awfully quiet due to the time and only a few cars plowed the streets.

Kiera was meant to be enjoying her evening like she normally did, a cup of hot chocolate was already by her desk waiting for her and yet she had not touched it.

Her mind kept going back to the scene that had played in the cafeteria. Ark's anger... It was upsetting.

Seeing someone like him angry for whatever reason did not sit well with her, she had considered walking up to meet him then but decided against it.

They were not that close and whatever was the cause of his grief was most likely private, yet her mind could not let it go.

How could she, when Ethan and his squad of nobodies had left the center not too long ago?

'It's not my business...'

Kiera walked to her desk.

'It's not my business...'

She reached for the steaming beverage.

'This is not my business!'

Her hands went past the drink and onto her keys. That was how Kiera found herself speeding through the road late at night.

A black sedan that melted into the night like a shadow, with sparkling headlights that resembled diamonds was covering distances in the space of mere seconds.

Kiera sat in the driver's seat, her hands clenched tightly on the steering wheel and her face glued to the road.

'They can't be too far.'

With a quick swerve of the wheel, the car cut to the right and with another rotation of the wheel she was now in front of another late night driver, earning a blaring horn in response.

Kiera put her foot down on the gas pedals eliciting an angry roar from her vehicle. On other days she would have enjoyed it, but today was different.

It did not take long to find what she was looking for, her intense headlamps cut the distance between them first, revealing a boy laying on the floor while being surrounded by four others.

Kiera was suddenly filled with a surge of range.

With a graceful turn, the expensive sedan swerved slightly, she put her foot to the brake, at the same time turning the hand brake on and off almost instantaneously.

And then she sent the wheel rotating to the left, her hands dancing on them like a crazed maniac.

There was no hint of emotion on her face and the car tilted to the side until it was drifting towards one of the boys, a perfect drift.

Kiera tightened her hold on the steering wheel, controlling the car, all for one perfect stunt.

Just then, Ark suddenly lunged at the now distracted Ethan, shoving him forward, and straight at the approaching car.

Kiera smiled.

Boom!

The blue haired maniac was blasted to the curb, his body rolling a bit before finally settling.
