Divine Beast Creator-Chapter 1884 - 1885: Racing
"It looks like there might be some infighting, but... are they actually allowing the use of ultimate moves to attack others?"
Scanning the sign at the entrance, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said. Veronia glanced at Feng Yuan and said,
"Do you care about whether you win first place?"
"Not really, as long as we can get the key fragments. Hmm, in that case, although we can’t form teams, we’ll just blast the other karts off first."
Feng Yuan pondered for a moment and said. Compared to an internal friendly match, mixing in with NPCs made it much more troublesome. At the very least, they had to reach the finish line before the NPCs, or else they’d have to start over.
Of course, in reality, no one really understood why this place allowed restarts after failure.
The karts in the Crazy Kart amusement ride seemed to be specially modified. In addition to the normal seats, a small area was forcibly added behind the seats for small-sized Spirit Beasts to stand, which didn’t surprise anyone. After all, this place allowed the use of ultimate moves for clashes, and Beastmasters couldn’t just hold their Spirit Beasts while racing.
"Xiao Ji, remember to clear out all the NPCs later, and be careful not to accidentally hurt Yang Hongzhi and the others. If you can’t avoid it, don’t attack the NPCs near them; let them handle those themselves."
Feng Yuan reminded Xiao Ji and added a thought. There was no helping it; Xiao Ji’s control over its ultimate move was still somewhat weak. Besides, Yang Hongzhi and the others weren’t like Qi Chen’s group; even Yang Hongzhi alone was strong enough to handle this fight.
Of course, if this place played too hard and brought out enemies with Legendary Level strength, Najia and the others wouldn’t be polite with those guys.
As everyone got ready, a large number of karts driven by "humans" appeared as expected. Roughly glancing, there were at least dozens of cars crammed at the starting line. Fortunately, the area was big enough to accommodate so many karts.
The full view of the track was unclear even to Feng Yuan, but at the starting point, it appeared like a bustling cityscape.
As the signal lights changed, all the karts roared out nearly simultaneously. Xiao Ji took the initiative before everyone else with a Death Storm raging through the entire course. Due to Feng Yuan’s instructions, Xiao Ji deliberately avoided Najia and their positions when releasing its ultimate move.
Yet, even so, the fierce wind swept away many karts. However, at this point, those karts suddenly spawned shields before Xiao Ji could make another move, prompting Feng Yuan to shout,
"Xiao Ji! Watch out! There’s a turn coming up!"
Compared to roller coasters, the speed of karts wasn’t particularly fast, but as Xiao Ji needed to prepare more powerful forces at this point, it now had to be careful not to be flung out, unlike during the roller coaster rides.
"Feng Yuan! Watch out!"
Yang Hongzhi noticed a kart with a rocket launcher suddenly pop up and hurriedly shouted to Feng Yuan ahead. Veronia coldly glanced around at the enemies and snorted, suddenly unleashing her ultimate move as they rounded the turn. The ground abruptly transformed into an ice surface, with anti-slip ridges formed of vines along the path Yang Hongzhi and Feng Yuan’s karts traveled to prevent slipping.
The other NPCs weren’t so lucky. When hitting the turn at high speed, the ground suddenly turning into ice caught some NPCs by surprise, causing them to get flung out, crashing into the barriers with their karts.
Some managed to engage propulsion devices just in time to avoid collision, but doing so temporarily disabled their acceleration functions.
"It really feels a bit like a racing game."
Seeing the floating row of Crystal Balls ahead, Feng Yuan couldn’t possibly not guess what those things were. An item race? It didn’t seem surprising, considering shields had already emerged initially.
Grinding the steering wheel, the kart did a spin on the wide road, smashing several Crystal Balls. Using Xiao Ji’s wind attribute power, Feng Yuan forcibly stabilized the vehicle, quickly corrected the direction, and floored the gas pedal, charging ahead again.
"Banana Peel, Thundercloud, Shield..."
Sweeping his gaze over those items, in addition to gaining several item boosts beyond just increasing propulsion energy by several notches, Veronia and Yang Hongzhi also snagged a number of Crystal Balls in a similar manner.
Although Veronia wanted to use her ultimate move to destroy the remaining Crystal Balls, those objects seemed to exist outside the space, completely unaffected.
"The Banana Peel is ready."
Glancing at the items, confirming Veronia and the others weren’t trailing behind, Feng Yuan decisively deployed an item. A gigantic banana peel with big eyes grew larger in the wind, roughly three meters tall by the time it hit the ground, looking more like an actual obstacle rather than something that would just make karts slip.
"What an absurd item."
Navigating the kart around the giant banana peel, Veronia muttered. The massive banana peel occupied two-thirds of the track upon landing. Carts chasing from behind weren’t able to avoid and crashed straight into it. Contrary to Feng Yuan’s assumption, the banana peel had no collision effect; it was simply large in size.
Nevertheless, the banana peel brought several karts to a spinning halt on the spot.
Unfortunately, this course clearly wouldn’t let Feng Yuan and his group pass so easily. As the number of racers decreased, Feng Yuan noticed more scaffolding on building facades lining the track ahead, looking like they might serve as tracks?
Before Feng Yuan could further speculate, with the engines roaring, several karts with skull emblems burst from the scaffolds, landing on the track. The maneuver took a bit of time, but those scaffolds were just ahead of Feng Yuan, who was in the leading group.
Hence, the carts entering mid-race squeezed into the leading group right away.
"Cutting in line? Do they really think I’m so easygoing?"
Muttering under his breath, Feng Yuan looked at Xiao Ji and said,
"Use your ultimate move to blast them all flying!"
Xiao Ji chirped questioningly but didn’t hesitate. From its understanding, blasting them flying must mean using an explosive ultimate, right? With that thought, Xiao Ji switched from using Death Storm, instead calling forth dark fireballs.
Even though Xiao Ji didn’t have a fire-element attribute, thanks to its training during the Eggshell Chicken phase, it still mastered fireball-type attacks.
However, compared to regular fireballs, Xiao Ji’s flames were fundamentally Netherfire, capable of causing explosions but differing in certain details.
To Feng Yuan, these differences mattered little, for all he needed Xiao Ji to do was blow all those enemies sky-high.
"Could it really be so simple?"
Watching Xiao Ji easily bomb multiple entering karts out of the course, Veronia mumbled. Judging by the troubles they’ve encountered before, this place won’t be so straightforward.
Although skeptical, without concrete evidence, since they only needed someone to secure first place, Veronia eased off the gas, falling to the back. Here, she could keep an eye on developments ahead and assist as needed.
Yang Hongzhi, naturally noticing Veronia’s sudden retreat to the back, asked confusedly,
"What’s Veronia doing?"
"She’s probably planning to support Feng Yuan. After all, we’re not in an internal match right now. If nobody’s looking out at the back, unexpected tactics from NPCs could lead to accidents."
Najia seemed to understand something and spoke. After a moment of silence, Yang Hongzhi said,
"Should we help him too?"
"That’s probably the best choice."
Gazing at Feng Yuan spreading black wings to ward off an incoming Thundercloud, Najia slowly stated. Not to mention, Feng Yuan’s techniques were more numerous than theirs, making him more adept at handling this chaotic item race than them Divine Beasts.
"The tower... without barriers, the battles here would be fierce."
Seeing the tower stretching to the sky, Najia cautiously commented. Suddenly remembering something, he turned to Yang Hongzhi, saying,
"Don’t speed up too much; we can only provide support from behind. But if we rush ahead, there’s a real risk of becoming a target ourselves."
"Understood."
Yang Hongzhi nodded slightly, gradually easing off the throttle. Having played racing games before, he naturally understood how intense first-tier item races could be. Without barriers, he wondered if he’d end up knocked off the tower by something like a rocket.
