District 42-Chapter 343: Working till fainting
Three weeks went by after the day that Casper spent with MMA.
The support base changed its location every week in order to make it difficult for the Frelsis to find them.
It was complicated to do so, but they didn’t have any means to prevent them to attack. After all, while outside of the Castle, they were in enemy territory. They needed to be two times as cautious.
At first, all the tents of the supporting base were quite outstanding, but they became smaller every day.
The healers were ordained to transfer the warriors and citizens who were already recovered to the houses of the Jarls who were willing to help them.
Some Jarls lived in the Midwest and North region, so they had somewhere to go once the supporting base dismissed them.
It was hard to just send those people away from there, sometimes separating them from family and friends, but they needed to do so. After all, if the supporting base kept like that, it would be too easy for them to be spotted by the Frelsis.
The only fortunate thing was that there weren’t too many Frelsis out there. Most of them were moving to the Castle, according to their Sgails who were spying the region where they settled.
It was good because they had fewer enemies with the mission to attack them.
Whenever the Support base was attacked, more Ridires died.
They weren’t aiming at the Jarls at all, but the warriors in rehabilitation.
It was a cruel thing, but also a strategy of theirs to lower their numbers even more. They couldn’t let the support base alone for too long, otherwise, the warriors would begin to get all recovered, and that folk would have enough power to counterattack.
However, even though some casualties happened, they could still preserve a lot of people, and some Jarls got recruited to help to take the Castle back again at the start of the next month.
The Aesirs were working eagerly towards their objectives, trying to anticipate some tasks and schemes, so they would be prepared before the day when they could return to their home and fight till the end.
Someone who was working as hard as everyone else was Casper. He was sleeping less than four hours per day and working more than twenty nonstop.
He didn’t get the chance to meet Vick during all those three weeks, but he didn’t mind that. The soldier was sure that she would understand his absence.
More than anyone, the princess was aware of Casper’s focus and dedication towards anything that he found important.
Also, he was struggling every day like that because of her as well.
He could go on missions with the Sgails and enter the Castle. Their objective was to see better the terrain, plan the safest and more efficient path to take, also as points where they would have a better time to go when invading that place.
They also noted down the routine of the Frelsis and how their Belic power was at that point.
Casper investigated a lot about the Vanirs, who was the major threat. He passed nights awake, trying to figure out how they could win against those guys, and which Aesir was the best pick to fight against them.
After all, in the previous battle, the ones who choose their opponents were the Vanirs, but now was their time to do so, and Casper would do his best there.
If he could do it just right, they would have a better time when entering the Castle again.
Besides all these things related to their mission of reconquering the Castle, he helped in the issues of the support base as well.
In the last days of the third week, he was quite worn out. He didn’t feel like keeping awake anymore. Everything he needed was, at least, 6 or 7 hours of sleep to get rid of that headache and exhaustion.
That day, he was inside the same tent as Freygar worked at. They were taking care of some papers regarding how much money they spent on that week. They needed to sort out if there was any expense that they could cut off in the fourth week that was to come, so they would be able to economize more money.
Casper was almost fainting while seeing all those papers on his desk. Thankfully, Freygar got the hang of the work a long time ago and didn’t need too much help. Anyway, he was just as worn out as Casper.
The White warrior was nearly sleeping with his eyes opened while still stamping those papers repeatedly.
He woke up from his half-asleep state when Freygar cleaned his throat and sighed.
"Listen, White warrior. You should let these papers with me and go out there to give a stroll and find somewhere to take a nap. I nearly can see your soul going up to Valhalla at this point."
Casper thought about that matter for a second.
"But... we still have so many things to do..."
"Go relax a bit with Vick and I will sort this out. I took a nap not long ago, so I can deal with it."
Casper faltered, nearly falling from his chair once he heard that.
"W-What!? Who told you about it?"
"MMA."
"Bastard..."
Freygar shook his head, shrugging.
"Man, everyone here had two guesses: Canute or Casper. So, it isn’t a surprise that it ended like this. However, we were sure that Canute would be the first to take her heart after so much time trying."
The White warrior decided not to think too much about that and just got up from his chair.
"Well, I will go take a stroll, then. Maybe I stop by somewhere to rest."
"Yup. Night strolls are good for the heart. Remember to use protection."
"I don’t have any. Expect a nephew for you." Casper mocked, opening the tent and going out.
He walked off the support base, going towards a neighborhood near that place.
They settled in a place far away from any town of District 42 this time. There was a smaller settlement far away, but that was it. And the Frelsi activity inside there was lesser than in other towns and cities.
While on the way there, he heard a familiar voice that made a chill run down his spine.
"Hey, Whity! It’s so good to see you again~. Last time you tried to kill me, remember~?"
