District 42-Chapter 344: Unexpected encounter
Once Casper heard that familiar voice, a chill ran down his spine, making his body shiver. For a moment, he didn’t move an inch. He felt like he was utterly in danger there.
’I don’t have any weapons with me right now... How damn reckless! I have a knife, as per usual, but I can’t really measure the distance right now. I am sure, however, that she has something with her. I won’t be able to just approach and attack somehow.’ He reasoned quickly.
He needed to find another way out of that situation.
’If she intends to kill me, she will do it. If it was back in the Castle, I could manage the amount of damage that I would receive and get out of here harmed enough to be treated in the healing capsules. However, right now, we are out of resources for such high-level treatment, and I bet that she will explode my head completely in order to make sure that I will be gone forever.’
Camilla’s voice resounded again, drawing his attention.
"Why are you so silent, White warrior? Are you thinking about attack me, by any chance? Or do you want to escape? I am afraid that something like this won’t happen, I am sorry."
By her tone, Casper could identify the mockery. She wouldn’t be so full of herself if she didn’t have any way to harm him.
"What do you think about I turn and look at your face, then? Would you shoot at me?"
"Shoot? No one is carrying any gun he--"
Before she could finish her statement, the soldier turned, glancing at her hands and seeing that they were in complete idleness beside her body.
Upon realizing it, he drew swiftly his knife and kicked the ground, shortening the distance in the blink of an eye.
When Camilla realized, Casper poised his blade on her throat. To prevent her from running away, he was holding her arm tightly. Those serious eyes were staring at hers intently in a threatening way.
She just kept looking at Casper for a while, a bit of surprise showing on her expression. Her heart skipped and she grinned, then began to giggle.
"Fufufu, you sure are interesting, Whity~." She spoke in a sweet voice, which didn’t make her cuter or something, but just crazier than usual.
"Are you in a position where you can mock me?" Casper snapped, pressing his knife even more against her.
"Yes! I mean, do you think that I would come here without anything schemed. Don’t you know this much about my personality, Whity? I am quite disappointed. Like, don’t you think that I would have any way to briber you?" She gave a meaningful look backward, the same direction that Casper came.
The White warrior didn’t need to ask any further to know what she meant with that.
"How many Frelsis are sieging the Support base?"
"Ahhh~ I knew that you were the cunning type! That’s so cool~!" She clapped her hands, excited.
"You know, there is an entire troop. I don’t even know the numbers exactly, but trust in me that I schemed it in such a way that you wouldn’t be able to fight back with the men that you have available right now. We, Frelsis, are more numerous than you think." She murmured, winking at him.
"What do you want?"
"For starters, why don’t you take your knife off my throat, Whity? It is hurting a bit, you know?"
Casper was still boiling inside because of her. His grudge against what she did with Vick was still there. He could barely hold himself to rip off her head there and then. He didn’t want to wait any more seconds to kill Camilla.
Nonetheless, for the sake of everyone, he needed to be patient and calm there. If he showed any trace of wrath or hesitation, she would surely use it against him.
Slowly, he took off his knife, but never loosened his grip. He wouldn’t let go of that weapon no matter what. After all, there was the slight possibility that she was just lying about all of that to get him off guard.
"Well, Whity, I just wanted to talk with you, ok? I know that you are dying inside to kill me already, but, since I like you, I have some things that I want to clarify."
Casper saw that "cute" facade of a high schooler girl disappear in an instant as Camilla began to act like the mature woman that she was.
"I want you to give up already and work with us, White warrior."
The soldier was going to open his mouth to say something but got interrupted right away.
"First, listen to me, ok? There isn’t anything wrong in fighting for what you believe, because that’s what we are doing here as Frelsis. I don’t know what you saw in the Jarls and the Royal Family that is more attractive than our ideals, but I respect it. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"However, the fact is that you don’t have any chance to win against us anymore. I know that you have some important people inside the Castle. I could see how much you value Vick when you saw her body hurt like that. That’s why I am warning you, White warrior: if you keep fighting on their side, you won’t be protecting them. As long as you keep running from us, we will blackmail you, we will briber you, and a lot of people around you will die. Be sure of it."
Casper remained silent upon hearing those words. He had many things that he wanted to say, but, anyway, all those things were pointless.
The fact was just one: The only power that Casper had was important enough to cause war. It was important enough to be dangerous for everyone who stayed beside him.
As long as he stayed stubbornly fighting against them like that, he would see the blood of the ones he loved.
"You know about it as well, huh? I bet you thought about it already. Maybe my conversation was kind of pointless. That’s okay, though." She shrugged.
"Since I want to show you some gentleness, I will let the Support base alone today, but it’s better that you change your settlement immediately. See you, Whity." She waved, walking toward the place that Casper was aiming to go before.
