Chapter 268: Vanirs part 1

Ivar was still looking towards that big hole with astonished, but excited eyes. He knew exactly what that huge snake was and how dangerous the situation became.

’Those hell of criminals were trying to do it all this while, huh? They could infiltrate the labs and put their dirty hands on the project Jomurgand!’

The Wild Aesir was one of the individuals who agreed with that project to be made. It was something that he thought to be useful if they were in extreme need and he was curious to see if they could craft that powerful robot. In the end, they did it amazingly.

’This thing can even make the Boss pass for a hard time, I guess... Can I beat it?’ He got up from the ground when the floor stopped to shook due to the powerful impact.

He was having a hard time doing this since he felt that something pierced him right on his back.

’I think that a huge piece of concrete or an iron bar made this to me. It’s better to take it off before thinking about beat that thing down there. I just hope that the other Aesirs can take the same initiative. We are stronger when we are together, after all.’ 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Ivar sat on the ground while putting his hand on his back. He could feel the sharp object that entered his flesh.

’It’s a freaking glass shard! Anyway, it didn’t reach my internal organs, I guess, so it is fine. The metal fibers are doing a great job as always.’

Slowly, he took off the glass shard without even grimacing. He was used to that kind of damage on his body since he always ended up going to close battle, generally throwing himself in the middle of the enemy’s lines.

’After that time when a sword crosse my body completely, I can’t complain about this kind of thing at all.’

He was going to put medicine there but got interrupted when something strange began to happen on the floor he was in.

A huge blue dome started to materialize on the borders of the city, covering it all in just some seconds. Its aspect resembled the shield that the Ridires used.

’Force field. And it is made of Indigo. What the heck...?’ He saw that it materialized even on the hole that the snake made.

Everyone that was on the floor was stuck there now.

The Aesir had a realization and looked to the sides, searching for the nearest Teleporting pad. However, it just served to show to him those technologies being disabled.

’They could mess with our main transportation as well!’ Ivar was amazed by how far those guys went to make that attack.

First, they needed to take control of the Energy Indigo supply of the Castle, then make a way to create a Force field. Also, to disable the teleporting pads, they should somehow hack the system of the Zap corporation.

’This... This is indeed bigger than anything we could imagine before. Those guys made what we thought was completely impossible for our entire lives!

’Now, we are messed. The citizens couldn’t be completely evacuated because of our rush. There are still more than 50% of the population on each floor. Some Ridires are here as well and they weren’t prepared for this. We don’t know from where the attack will come or how many people will appear.’

Some minutes of an awkward silence proceeded the next moments after the dome closed completely and the Teleporting pads made their last sound indicating that they weren’t available.

People began to open their windows and doors. The workers of the nearest factories and enterprises went out to see that event. Those were the last people they agreed to evacuate.

’From where?’ Ivar had the feeling that his thoughts could be heard echoing in the city. ’From where these criminals will appear?’

His eyes were attentively analyzing the environment. His hearing was at its peak. He felt the smell of something similar to sulfur and ammonia in the process.

’Is my mind playing tricks with me? Or are these types of gas in the air?’ He frowned hard.

Suddenly, specific Teleporting pads glowed with their usual blue light, but just for some seconds, time enough to teleport someone there and shut it down again.

’They are coming!’

He thought that the same black-dressed criminals from before would appear there, but instead, what he saw was clearly Frelsis. Their half-broken masks were recognizable anywhere. Their clothes were as poor as the ones used by commoners but had worn out bulletproof vests behind and metal plates to protect them.

The only different thing this time was their weapons, which now were Helheim, not those rustic and hand-made ones from before.

The Ridires entered into action right away when noticing that the enemy was around. Their reaction was quick, noises of battle began to rise in the air. Bullets flew everywhere and the first screams of pain and last breaths could be heard.

Ivar was going to help them, he charged to start his rush and vanish the battlefield. His mind was also occupied with the fact that he needed to save a lot of people from that perimeter. However, before he could start, his senses alarmed him and he jumped to the side, avoiding a powerful burst of flames going on his way that managed to destroy the asphalt where he was before.

He landed on the ground after his huge jump, getting into a fighting stance.

As Ivar saw someone walk slowly in the middle of those furious flames, he couldn’t help but feel excited.

’This guy...’ From those flames, a criminal wrapped in dark and grey bandages appeared walking calmly. ’He is really strong!’

"Hello, Aesir. It’s a pity that we won’t be able to talk for too long. Want to say your last words before turning into ashes?"

"Yes, I have a request. I would like to hear YOUR last words when I take you to Valhalla with me!" Ivar kicked the ground, breaking it with the strength behind his strides.

The Vanir prepared for the clash, raising both hands and staring intently at Ivar.

...

"That’s bad..." Ari said while frowning hard. Behind his sad mask, his resolute eyes shone.

He was seeing the fuss starting to happen in the city from above.

Before entering into action, he analyzed the situation.

’This dome is really a troublesome thing. But there got to be a way to overcome this. We could have had sent people out of the city if not for this thing. I can also try to reactivate the Teleporting pads, which would be more practical to make them get out of here. The top priority now has to be the citizens who are still inside this place.’

Ari knew that his duty as an Aesir was to save people and keep them protected, so he would always focus on it. He was a quite methodic man, so it was the only way he found to act in that sort of situation.

’Casper said that, when you are dealing with this kind of problem, you need to focus on the victims first, then you annihilate the source of the problem.’

Ari jumped off the building’s roof, landing on the ground. He was going to investigate more about that dome, but before he could do it, he noticed that a strange gas was starting to appear around, covering a huge perimeter in a matter of seconds.

He ran several meters away, trying to avoid that unknown substance, but it was fast, just as if it had life.

"What’s wrong, Aesir?" The Punctual Aesir didn’t stop to run but looked upwards to spot the man with a hoarse voice that was talking to him.

On top of a building, he saw the Vanir who wore heavy leather clothes. He had a plague mask over the district’s usual mask. A black hat was on his head, and his left hand held a black cane, which was from where that green gas was coming. It had a skull on one of its extremes releasing that substance nonstop.

"Bastard!" Ari pointed his gun towards him, which made the man laugh sarcastically.

"I think you are not in the best position to be pointing a gun at me, Aesir. After all, I am not the only person that you will need to worry about..." He pointed with his cane to all that perimeter, which made Ari got aware of how serious the situation was.

With just a glance, he could understand the dilemma he got into.

"As you can see, that Healing Center is surrounded by the gas and will be invaded in 8 minutes. The other buildings are the same, but they are easier to get into, which will last just 5 minutes. Your Ridires will start to die in 3 minutes. Also, the gas around you will get you in less than 2 minutes." Behind his hoarse and deep tone, there was malice, and it made Aris disgusted.

The man gritted his teeth, holding his weapon strongly.

"Now, now, I will wait for you to guess what my beautiful gas is capable of. I will give you 10 seconds. Let’s see if you are as good as they say, Punctual Aesir!"
