District 42-Chapter 267: Jomurgand
The door of that tiny house opened, revealing lots of common houses and establishments out there. If someone asked him, Casper would definitely say that it was a common neighborhood of a random region. Everything seemed to be quite normal for him.
However, after the words of that old man, the soldier was looking to that place with another perspective. Details he wouldn’t normally notice were clear for his eyes, which reinforced the words of Javir.
With a close expectation, he could notice that all people had fake brown masks covering their faces. Behind those, they most likely had a broken one covering just half of it. Those Frelsi had weapons all over their bodies in well-hidden spots. The establishments were just a facade. Most of the houses had people entering on it that weren’t similar or belonged to the same family; as if a bunch of strangers was sharing the same house.
The soldier noticed that there weren’t too many kids there, and it made sense since children wouldn’t be well-cared inside a place belonging to a rebel organization trying to break the government. They probably separated the kids into other regions where they could live normally. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Another thing that made Casper aware of what that local really was, was that bunch of security measures spread around the place. Cameras, secret traps, people that seemed to be strolling but were actually patrolling, and hidden weapons in the roof of the houses or inside them.
All those different measures could even be normal in a town in District 42. After all, in most of the places there, the crime rate was high. However, those defenses weren’t making any protection to the inner town but aimed outside it. It wasn’t made to protect the citizens but rather to prevent someone to enter there.
’So, it was the truth! They conquered an entire town and made it their operation base! How the hell does the Jarls and the Royal Family didn’t notice it? I wonder how much struggle they need to do every day to keep it safe.’
As Casper was amazed about that environment, Javir kept walking through that place and present to him all the convenient places that he wanted him to know.
Their stroll didn’t last too long since they could take different teleporting pads and travel around the town really fast.
Meanwhile, the soldier asked about some things regarding the Frelsi and District 42. It was way better to talk with him about those things since most of his acquaintances were stopped by the masks and the Princess wouldn’t cooperate all the time.
"You asked about the Forger, and I need to say that I never saw him in person, but we have been in contact with his creation and the guy is a genius, indeed."
"What about all the cruelty of the Frelsi nowadays, how do you justify it?"
"We are doing like for like here. They are cruel with us, and we are with them. You might know that the Aesirs and Ridires also go to crusades to kill Frelsis. I don’t know if you noticed, but we just snapped back once they got in our way. We never meant to do a slaughter with them. Nonetheless, if it is necessary reach our goals, we will kill them.
"Also, you need to understand that, in the same way as they hate Frelsis, we hate them. A good outcome couldn’t come with it. Those people stole our most precious right since the day we are born. We can’t just take it lightly and be pacifists."
The soldier was prepared to do his last question to end with all of that.
"What will you do with the Castle?"
"We will do what is necessary." Coldness appeared in his eyes as he walked solemnly through those streets. "Anything necessary, no matter the price, despite morals, values, and ethics."
Casper felt the weight behind those words. They weren’t the words of a murderer, nor a desperate person trying to win...
’He is just tired of fighting...’ He looked away from the stern face of that man, making a complicated expression.
"You brought me here because I am necessary for all of this, right?" Casper stopped to walk, clenching his fists.
Javir did the same after some steps forward.
"Yes. If the Frelsi wants to win, then we need you, White warrior. To regain our freedom, there is something that the Royal family has a hold on. It’s a card, a tiny thing, but with a huge meaning. It’s called Gungnir, the same name as Odin’s weapon. In this case, they are the invisible chains that keep us tied to this district.
"This card is the final resource that we need to free ourselves from the other half of the masks. If we can get the Gungnir, then we will win. However, there is just one person that can take and use it, and that’s you because you are above the rules of this world."
The soldier kept quiet for a while.
"I will fight for what I find that is the right thing, Javir. No one can force me to do something I don’t want to do."
"And what you think that is right, White warrior?"
Casper smiled.
"You will see."
...
Far away from the Frelsis’ operation base, inside the Castle, the city called Uppsala was having its usual busy days.
People were unaware of what was going to happen inside there. After so many centuries of peace and unconcern, they couldn’t expect that something would go awry.
The center of the city was the busiest one. Dozens of thousands of people were walking here and there, not just Jarl or Ridire, but also some commoners that did some labor inside that city.
The normal days, though, would end in the worst way possible. Their destiny was worst than what they could ever imagine.
A loud sound echoed across all the Castle, alarming not just the people on that floor, but also in others. All the Aesirs had their senses sharpened and each one looked above, from where the sound was coming.
It seemed like a mechanical roar, but so strong that made the entire Castle shake.
No one could recognize from where it was coming, except one person.
"It comes right above me. In the floors where the laboratories are settled." Ivar thought.
A second roar echoed, then a commotion coming from above. Ivar took out his sword. The excitement in his heart was arising, which made a grin start to appear on his face, his eyes got glazed.
’C’mon, I am waiting for you, Frelsi!’ He prepared his muscles for the first rush.
However, what happened after didn’t allow him to go any further on his reaction. A huge impact made his foot lift from the ground, shaking the Castle even more. Then, a giant form appeared going through the floor’s ceiling and opening a huge crack on it.
Concrete and soil flew everywhere. The impact applied strong pressure on the air, making it seem like a typhoon was happening in such intensity that it broke all the constructions around.
Those abnormal gusts of wind made Ivar fly backward, hitting his body against several obstacles until he fell to the streets sliding. His body just stopped when he held the edge of a building which was with half of it already gone, but its foundations could hold.
Adrenaline was invading his body. He felt like that wave of energy would explode him from inside out and felt the need to spend it somehow.
’Where!? Where is this powerful thing that I will need to kill!?’ He was still firmly holding his sword with his free hand. His body was full of adrenaline and he couldn’t think of anything else than subdue that thing with his own hands.
He looked up... and saw that a colossal robotic snake was coming from that crack on the ceiling. The noises of pistons, engines, and machinery were echoing from inside its huge body that had 70 meters of length.
’Jomurgand...’ The man thought, looking at that monstrous thing while his body shivered before ita presence.
The snake didn’t stop on that floor. She kept its body in a vertical position and then pierced the ground, digging with its head her way until the floor below at a crazy speed.
Jomurgand kept going further and further, passing through all the cities of the Castle and letting its mark on them. All the other Ridires looked in astonishment lots of constructions and people dying in front of them in a matter of seconds as that snake fell.
It finally stopped when getting into Uppsala. That was her main goal: the biggest city of the Castle.
She landed on the ground, destroying several things while moving its unbelievable body, lifting half of it, and looking around.
A last roar that broke the glasses of the constructions around was the final warning of the upcoming tragedy that Uppsala would experience.
