Chapter 239: Eskil counterattacks

Once Rat finished his statement filled with malice, he pushed one of his subordinates towards Casper and Eskil and started to run to the opposite side, giving a sinister laugh with his modified voice.

After that, the criminal didn’t hesitate any more and rushed towards the pair. He lost his balance after being pushed but regained it quickly and closed the distance.

The others also entered into action. Two of them followed Rat and the three remained members stayed to fight against the enemies.

Even though they weren’t with that high number of advantages of six people, three were difficult enough to deal with.

While one of them was going to get both in close range, the other two drew their guns and were going to shot at them. At the same time, the others were trying to escape, and since Rat was a priority they couldn’t stay right there for a long time and let him go.

’We aren’t too outnumbered anymore, but there is something even worse now. We will need to choose whether to stay and fight or find a way around and run after Rat.’ Casper reasoned.

He raised both hands and prepared himself for the upcoming attack. Meanwhile, he never avoided his eyes from the two guys who were positioned behind and taking some more distance. Their fingers were already on the trigger and from far away the soldier could see that their grip was firm and ready to be shot. By anticipation, he could imagine that bullet going out of the barrel towards him.

He couldn’t reason any more. The time seemed to pass in slow motion, but so were his thoughts. The deadline for his possible death was short, he needed to decide by instinct there.

However, just when he was about to engage in battle with the closest criminal, a drone appeared out of nowhere and launched itself in his direction.

The enemy couldn’t even see where the attack came from. That flying thing struck him on the head at a high speed and exploded right after.

Casper stood dumbfounded and with his hands raised like a boxer while seeing the criminal falling on the ground and not moving anymore. The hood he was wearing was reduced into nothing, the mask on his face shattered into pieces. They couldn’t know if he was a Frelsi or not.

Anyway, that was not time to think like a detective. They needed to move.

Numerous drones appeared dancing in the air and rounding the criminals, who didn’t know whether to point at them or both Sgails in front.

"White warrior, get out of here and catch the Rat! We have just one chance!"

After Eskil said that, even though the soldier was feeling his leg’s muscles getting numb already, he activated the exoskeleton at the max level his body could bear and kicked the ground, running at full speed towards Rat.

The Sgail remained behind. He was also able to catch up with the Rat if he wanted to, but he found it better to send Casper to accomplish this mission while he dealt with the enemies.

’After the information that the White warrior found that weapon inside the building, the one that sent that laser who killed and disabled some Sgails, there is no way that I will underestimate them. They can seem a bit dumb now, dealing with my drones, but I am not an idiot. I know what kind of powerful things you wield!’

It was not a sacrifice though. Eskil was sure that he would be able to win against them, that’s why he decided to get behind. If it was the worst-case scenario, he obviously would let Casper deal with it.

He was controlling his drones not with his tablet, but with the gloves he was wearing. It worked just like he was controlling puppets with strings. Each movement of his fingers led them to do something different.

That was the power of Eskil and why he was one of the most excellent Sgails of the organization.

The enemies noticed that they couldn’t hold themselves anymore. They weren’t in a stealth mission, after all. Even if that Sgail could see the technologies they were wielding, he wouldn’t be alive in the end to give any reports about it!

They placed their hands where their devices were hidden, looking serious towards the sgail.

The drones were all placed around them, stabilized in middle-air.

’Their positions are just like a cage. I am curious to know how they will beat this formation!’ He retracted all his fingers at once.

The drones began their assault against the criminals while they drew their weapons.

...

Ari and Canute were just a few inches away from a Teleporting pad. They were running frenetically through the city.

People were looking frightened at their blue capes, which were the main symbol showing that they were Aesirs. Nowadays, look to an Aesir in such a rush was a bad omen. The citizens started to guess if something was wrong on one of the floors.

What got them more cautious about it was the fact that Canute, who was hospitalized just a while ago, found something dangerous enough to need to escape from the Healing Center and go on a mission.

The Aesirs couldn’t help but draw the attention of that bunch of people. They hadn’t the time to be walking casually through the streets. They didn’t know how quickly they would have to get there and what was happening during the mission, so it was a must to give their all to arrive on that floor as soon as possible.

Ari noticed that Canute was still somewhat stumbling at times, which left him worried for his friend.

"Hey, man, are you sure you can keep up? Is your body still feeling the effects of that battle?"

"I-It’s nothing, really. It’s just that my portals don’t nullify my speed when I enter them. So, in the end, the impact was the same as fall from the top of that building. All my body felt the impact, and I am lying on a bed for some days, so naturally, I would be like this."

Canute explained the situation, even though Ari already knew that.

’I know what you are doing, Canute. all this blabbering is just to divert my attention, but it won’t work. Right now, you are pushing yourself more than you should, aren’t you? You knew since the start that it was not the time to get out of the hospital. In the end, of all your flaws, maybe your pride is the worst.’

They arrived at a Teleporting pad, getting on top of that technology and saying out loud the coordinations.

The usual phenomenon happened during some awkward seconds until their bodies reconstructed again and they found themselves... In the same place.

They exchanged glances, feeling that something was off. Both Ari and Canute knew that the coordinates said were just fine.

Canute was the one trying to say it now, but the same thing happened. Yet, they tried a third time, which didn’t work as well.

"C-Could it be that the Teleporting--" Ari started to say, but got interrupted when Canute drew his staff and left that place.

"We don’t have time to lose here, do we? There is no other way around, then. I will need to spend a bit of Indigo Energy here."

"Yes, it’s been fifty-seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds that I received the information of the operation and came here. It has to be started ten minutes and seventeen eight seconds ago." Ari specified.

Canute was used to his perfectionism and his paranoia with time calculation. The man was a human clock. He was always chronometric different things in his mind. Probably he was at that moment looking to his friend and timing for how long he would take to make his portals.

The Aesir programmed the coordinates on his staff as level-headed as he could. Soon, he pressed the button on his staff and pointed in front of him, drawing a circle in the air. From the tip of the staff, a portal began to appear.

Soon, it was made and Canute rushed towards it, entering the floor where the Sgails’ plan to capture the Rat was happening.

Ari followed him with no hesitation after he saw the portal was completely made.

They appeared on the other side, facing the city while on top of a building; a strategical position to decrease their chances of appearing in the middle of a conflict.

Both of them got flabbergasted while seeing the situation of the city. Their first thought was if someone threw a bomb in the middle of it. They clenched their fists seeing that catastrophe.

Canute had his face distorted in a deep frown while looking to that perimeter. All he wanted was to spot the Rat and end with him. His head was exploding in anger.

"Hey, Canute..." He turned to Ari, who had his eyes widened and his hands slightly trembling. "Look at that!"

He pointed to someone who was running through the streets, trying to escape from that situation.

Once Canute spotted this person, his heart stopped for a while.
