Chapter 238: Focus on the mission

As the Sgails pushed forward towards the Drakkars, even though they were focused on the enemies no one could help but switch their attention directly to Ivar once the guy crossed that part of the city like a bullet and then faced directly the enemies.

What he did was a show for the eyes of everyone, a brutal show. None of them could avoid their gazes for a long time seeing the strength that he Aesir was displaying.

The criminals facing him didn’t stand any chance as he swiftly danced with his sword and the arrow on his left hand on top of the Drakkar’s deck, slaughtering all the criminals there in a matter of seconds. Some of them were striving to keep alive, but they also knew that they were just trying to avoid the inevitable.

"Keep on going to the other Drakkars. Let Ivar take care of that one alone!" Leonel said on the communicator. He was praying mentally for Rat to not be on that vehicle because if he was, he would be already dead at that point.

The others obeyed his orders, not aiming for the Drakkar which Ivar was in and going in the direction of the other 3.

They weren’t as fast as the Aesir, obviously, so when the group was spotted by the other criminals they started to be attacked immediately.

Their enemies were well equipped too and they would use everything they got to prevent them to get any closer.

The first one to stop to move was Eva. Casper got concerned about her at first, but the woman was drawing her sniper and aiming at the criminals. She wasn’t harmed at all and ready to start their counterattack!

’I hope that her aid from behind helps us!’

Casper strengthened his strides and went at full speed to those vehicles, running in zigzag and avoiding as many attacks as he could.

The time came when the criminals started to be shot one by one in a rapid succession that didn’t seem to belong to a sniper at all.

’No wonder Thor said that she was one of the most lethal women of his organization. She has this distant behavior all the time, so I am surprised that someone with no focus at all can have such a good aim! It will help to get there unharmed and decrease the number disadvantage.’

The criminals tried to retaliate against Eva, but she was lying on the building’s roof and farther away from them than the other Sgails. Now, they didn’t know if they would do better spending their resources on her or the others.

It was hard to judge which one would be more lethal.

Anyway, as their opinions and decisions split and they began to get uncoordinated, Eva targeted each one of them faster and faster.

Susie also took advantage of their confusion to speed up, not zigzagging anymore and just pressing forward swiftly towards the Drakkar. Her upper body was very lowered and at some point, it seemed like she was going to fall.

She was the first to get to the border of the nearest building from the Drakkars and jump on its deck.

Before she landed there, she already unsheathed four knives at once at threw them at the criminals. Her aim was as perfect as Eva’s. Three of them got targeted in their throats and the last one on his eye. There was no way for them to keep alive like that.

Once her feet landed on the deck, she didn’t lose time and drew more of her weapons while delivering a kick to the jaw of a misfortunate enemy who dared to attack her.

While Ivar was brutal and relentless, she was swift and elegant in her fighting style. It was deadly and yet beautiful. Her abilities with the knives were far beyond everything that Casper saw in his life, and her other comrades always got amazed with her movements every time they got to see it.

Leonel didn’t jump into any Drakkar. Instead, he just got close enough to have a good aim. When he was already bordering the buildings, he started to run, following those vehicles while drawing a machine gun and starting to shot at them.

The enemies retaliated against him, but none could target the Sgail.

Casper arrived together with Eskil at the border of the buildings. The soldier looked to the man, then to his comrades.

"You are thinking the same as me, White warrior?"

"Yes. They said that there were fewer Sgails inside the Drakkars, which means that they should be around here. I doubt that they were in the vehicle they used to explode us. Since our team can handle so well, it’s better if we focus on them!"

Eskil agreed, then looked at his tablet, typing quickly on it.

The drones rounding that perimeter received a command in the next moment and started to move to another place, spreading through the city and searching in a wider area.

It didn’t take too long for them to spot something that grasped Eskil’s interest.

Not so far away from where they were, some criminals walked between the buildings, hiding in the alleys and following the Drakkars.

"I found something here, White warrior. There are a bunch of criminals walking around this part and going in the same direction as these vehicles are going. We can intercept them if we hurry."

The soldier pondered for a while.

"No. Your drones should keep watching them. We wait until they finish their jobs." Casper had resolute eyes as if he just remembered something that he must do.

His decision made Eskil get confused for a while, but then he started to reason properly and could conclude what Casper meant by that.

"You are right. I will make them look specifically for someone with the same characteristics as the Rat, so we can aim only to him and accomplish our main purpose." The man typed on the tablet again, changing slightly the last order he gave.

The soldier was impressed by his judgment. He was sure that he would get along with Eskil far better than he did with the others.

"Ok, the order is made, now we need to keep on the tail of these occulted criminals down there."

Casper nodded and waited for results from their search. Meanwhile, he pointed his gun for the Drakkars, which its crew was being destroyed by his partners. He shot at them, giving support to the others.

In that situation, Eskil’s drones showed their true efficiency. Casper barely had taken his time to help from far away from his comrades, but the Sgail turned to face him with an excited expression and holding his tablet tightly.

"I found him, White warrior! Let’s go, follow me!"

He got ahead of the soldier and jumped off the building.

Of course, as the exoskeleton he was wearing had good durability and was in a potent mode, he could do such a thing, but Casper couldn’t, so he needed to use his Grappling hook to go down slowly until a certain point.

Once he was there he followed the Sgail, seeing him entering into an alley. Without waiting any further he spent a lot of gas in a rush to catch up with his partner.

They ran together through the streets. That part of the city was empty since most of the people escaped from there because of the explosion. It was a good thing for Casper and the Sgails since they wouldn’t need to care as much about them, so they could just focus on the battle and protect themselves instead to do it for others.

However, even so, it didn’t diminish the amount of destruction and lives that the explosion caused.

’This Rat is mine now. If I can get him right on this mission, then everything will be easier for me. I will end with my plans for this district sooner than I thought, my questions will be answered, and everything will end! I need to do this! I need to take him today!’

In a short time, they crossed the streets and alleys they needed and were already spotting the enemy.

Since those criminals out of the Drakkars were spread through the city the group which Rat was didn’t have too many people with him, at most 6, he included. They were walking carefreely on the streets, never outstanding too much, and hiding their guns with them just in case if someone noticed.

The Rat, particularly, was the one that seemed most calm. He had his hands inside the pockets of his pants, his hood was covering a good part of his head and occulting his face. His position among the criminals was privileged since he was in the middle, being protected from all sides.

Eskil and Casper jumped out of an alley, some meters away from them. The group of criminals stopped their walk.

They stared at each other intently.

Rat smiled.

"Time to play, White warrior."
