Chapter 240: The Aesirs arrive

A bullet crossed the city at a high speed, the sound of his body piercing the air could just be heard a second after it passed next to Rat’s ear and landed on a building next to him.

The man used a near wall as an impulse to subtly change his course to the left, entering into another alley connected to there. This way, he avoided yet another rain of bullets coming in his direction.

That person was swift and unpredictable. A bad combination for Casper, who was shooting at him while giving chase. He couldn’t aim as he always did before. Although his shots were accurate, the only factor that was making him fail every time was that guy.

He wasn’t just fooling Casper with his strange way to move around, but psychologically as well.

He would keep running to all sides, using the interconnection between the streets and alleys in his favor to fool the soldier. And every time he was successful on his escape, just as if he was mocking him and having fun with the situation, he would laugh like a mad man, changing his voice all the time.

The White warrior was a level-headed person on the outside, but inside he was always struggling to maintain his calm. Most of the time, despite the anxiety and pressure, he could get through that situation.

’This time is not different! I will keep my cool. But it’s hard to not get affected by this type of situation, particularly when this guy is my entry key to the Forger’s place.’

Let alone the pressure of having to accomplish a mission to stop the numerous accidents and corruption happening inside the Castle, the soldier was putting pressure on himself as well, to be able to accomplish his own goals.

The chase continued for several streets. Rat seemed to have infinite stamina. No matter how much Casper pushed himself, using all the strength of the exoskeleton, he couldn’t catch up with that guy.

’He is probably wearing one too. I need to catch up with him since an exchange of bullets won’t do any good! But how can I beat someone that is used to wear an exoskeleton often? They might have physical preparation for specific muscles, to be able to reduce the rate of injuries per time they use it. I got some good musculature and my body is getting better as time passes, but I am still overwhelmed and I will be even more if I pass from this level.’

Casper hated each time more his limitations and was willing to do anything he could to get rid of them

Feeling frustrated, after turning abruptly to another alley, the soldier shot at Rat several times.

The enemy jumped on top of the trash, avoiding a good part of the bullets, then used the wall to impulse himself upward and held a metal pipe fixed to that building.

Casper continued to shot nonstop, following his acrobatic movements, but Rat was so accurate and unorthodox that he missed a bunch of shots by millimeters, some could only scratch him.

Rat jumped to the top of a building before Casper could reach him. His laugh reached the soldier’s ears and made him nearly snap.

’It would get too long to go up there just as he did, I need to follow him on the ground and do my best to not lose track of him!’

Decidedly, the White warrior just took the time to reload his gun and then started to run after the criminal again.

It didn’t take too long for one of his friends to appear from a random street.

They had split minutes before, trying to dumbfound Casper, but since his only goal was Rat, the other two didn’t matter at all.

However, their true objective wasn’t to run away from the White warrior but to intercept him when the right time came.

And that was the most crucial time. If the soldier didn’t want to lose track of Rat, he couldn’t engage in battle.

’Fortunately, I have new things I can test by now! I didn’t come to this mission completely useless!’

The soldier burst forward, independently of the criminal being there or not.

’Let’s go!’

He clicked in a button place on one of the gloves he was wearing and it activated the boots he had.

’I am not used to it! Not the slightest, but the objective here isn’t fly but have a boost!’

The soldier bent his knees and lifted his heels, getting ready to the impulse.

Once the criminal noticed his position, he guessed exactly what he was going to do, but didn’t have enough time to react.

Casper’s boots emitted an intense heat at first, but then a burst of fire came out of it, launching his body forward.

Right after the impulse, the White warrior felt a huge pain on his knees and calf, which were the ones that most felt the impact. His ankles were protected by the boots, so they didn’t break after that boost.

His body traveled at a high speed and didn’t stop even after he collided with the criminal getting in his way.

He hit the criminal with his right foot, sending him to the ground immediately.

The soldier lost his balance after the clash, and nearly fell headlong, but could maneuver his body and landed on his feet.

Adrenaline was running on his veins and his heartbeat could be sensed through all body. It wasn’t a terrible sensation at all, and helped him to ignore the consequences of his first time using that technology!

He looked up and saw that he still didn’t lose track of Rat. There was yet another of his subordinates rounding around there, but Casper would deal with him afterward if he appeared again.

The soldier started to run, diminishing a level on his exoskeleton to not hurt too much his knee and calf.

His rush continued as he was still on Rat’s tail, decided to finally catch that man!

...

Canute and Ari had their hearts beating so slowly that it seemed like they had stopped for a while.

The pair couldn’t believe that they saw the familiar person that was among the various people around the center of teleporting of that city.

The Teleporting pads weren’t functioning there for some reason.

The center of teleporting was a place with several Teleporting pads, so the city wouldn’t have bad traffic of people trying to use it.

However, all the pads were already tested and none of them took the citizens out of the city.

"Do you think she was there, Ari? Among the crowd, I mean? Do you think that V--" Before Canute finished his sentence, Ari took out the robust weapon on his back and looked with his cold and calculating eyes towards a specific part of the city.

Canute looked in the same direction, squinting his eyes and soon spotting what was bothering his friend.

Far away from where they were, they could see someone running fastly through the buildings and several shots being given.

They didn’t need to think too much to know what was going on, so they rushed towards that place.

The two Aesirs didn’t have any problem moving through the city as they were already well acquainted with those streets. It was easy to move around and because of it, they could find the shortcuts to arrive there quickly.

The first person they bumped into while following the guy running on top of the buildings was another familiar figure.

Once Canute saw him, he felt his blood boiling and narrowed his eyes towards him.

"What the heck does this guy is doing here!?"

Casper had his hood on and, as per usual when in a mission with the Sgails, he was wearing his black mask as well. However, Canute was cunning and perceptive, he could see in Casper’s light grey eyes who he really was.

Also, he had so much antipathy towards the soldier that he could feel his disgusting presence right away.

The White warrior was running with a gun in his hand, which indicated who was the person shooting continuously against that man.

Ari knew how Canute didn’t get along with the White warrior. He himself didn’t like him too much. Anyway, he wasn’t going to argue with him for no reason just like his partner would possibly do.

He took the lead, letting Canute behind and being the one talking with Casper.

"White warrior! Report!"

Casper got flabbergasted once he heard his name being called but, anyway, he wouldn’t ponder too much on that matter. Since he knew those two guys, it wasn’t dangerous.

"That man is the Rat! We have no time to waste!" He shouted while passing between those two in high speed, never stopping his persecution.

Ari and Canute gave a single glance to each other, both were already with their guns in their hands. They nodded their heads, then turned to the direction that Casper went and ran after him.
