District 42-Chapter 219: Mission complete
The Sgail who was talking with Casper fell silent on the line. For a second, the soldier thought if something was wrong with them and called him once more.
"Hello? Are you hearing?"
"Y-yes. I hear you."
"Could you grasp what I just said?"
The Sgail mumbled something that resembled a "yes", but Casper wasn’t sure.
"If you said the weapon that I think you just said, then something is really wrong, White warrior... Are you sure that the name is correct?"
Casper took a look at the weapon again, seeing the same name he said craved on its structure.
"Yes, that’s the name. There is no mistake here, it’s written on the weapon."
The Sgail mumbled a word or two. His perplexed voice made Casper wonder what was wrong with that weapon.
’This weapon is powerful, but that’s not just it. There is something more behind... This Sgail realized a detail that I couldn’t.’
Casper was ready to ask him more about that weapon, but the Sgail spoke first.
"I need that you go see how things are going on the mansion."
The soldier gasped, surprised by the decision.
"No way! How can I left all of you so hurt like this? I shall do what I am supposed to do here first!"
The Sgail gave a pause, probably to catch his breath again. Casper heard a long and heavy sigh on another side of the line, then a moan of pain.
"Don’t worry too much, White warrior. We are not people who need to be protected. We can take care of ourselves. Also, I already called medical support, so they will be coming fast." He reassured the soldier, even though he found it to be a bother.
Casper was still a bit concerned. He didn’t want people fighting beside him to die because of carelessness on his part, but there was no other way around.
"Okay. I will be going, then. But, before this, I will do one more round in the area to see if there are criminals around here."
The soldier left the call, keeping his cellphone quickly and holding his gun instead.
He walked off that building and started to make a full check-up on that place to see if he could find someone there.
The soldier stipulated for himself a deadline of one hour to finish his search. Afterward, he would meet Leonel at the mansion and see how things were going for them.
That one hour passed before Casper could even realize it.
He went through the streets of 4 entire blocks on the perimeter of the attack. He couldn’t find anything for the time being.
The White warrior didn’t think that the criminals had made a quick escape after that destructive attack against the Sgails, otherwise, it would be noticeable.
They were still inside of the residential zone, he just needed to find out where.
However, after 4 blocks, he was starting to doubt himself. Maybe they were on a faster pace than he expected, but he persisted in being stubborn and keep tracking them like a hungry wolf.
Casper was ready to leave that place. He decided just to take one more look at the last street.
If they were really still inside the residential zone, that street was part of one of the last possible paths that they could use to run away, at least the ones that Casper could sort out himself.
The soldier jogged through that street, seeing the other ones that connected to there, paying attention to the buildings, mansions, condominiums, and establishments.
He was going to end his journey on a near Teleporting pad that he would use to teleport near the mansion where the Seasonal Meeting of Jarls happened.
Just some meters away from there, he finally spotted someone also aiming to get there.
’Got you!’ Casper’s heart raced inside the chest as he increased his speed and started to shoot at that criminal.
The last just noticed Casper when he got shot at his left arm, letting fall from his hand a speaker in which he was talking before.
The man also increased his pace, running towards the Teleporting pad in long strides and crescent despair in his eyes.
Casper was aiming a final shot on his legs and he was sure that he could target there, or, at least, strike him on the waist.
However, before he did it, he heard a loud sound of a burst of flames, then noticed a strong yellow light coming from his right side.
Another criminal was flying with those special boots at a high speed towards him. He seemed just like a bullet crossing the air and he got Casper’s pace perfectly.
The soldier didn’t have time to stop his rush or avoid the human bullet coming his way and got struck by him. His body was sent flying to the left and he smashed his back against the nearest building.
His attacker didn’t seem as harmed, but his body was still affected by the collision.
Limping hard, but at a high pace, he walked with his comrade to the Teleporting pad and escaped from that floor.
The soldier cursed, hitting his fist on the ground and feeling all his trunk suffering by a huge pain.
’Anyway, those bastards still forgot something on their rush, hehe...’ Casper was looking intently at the speaker that was still lying on the street.
...
After Casper finished treating his bruises and was able to get up, he went straight to get that Teleporting pad as well, memorizing its number to tell Leonel that two criminals had taken that one to escape.
’All the Teleporting pads have their specific numbers on them. It turns things easy for administration in general.’
The soldier made sure to take that speaker with him as well. That thing was still turned on, but there was no one on the line. Probably, after the fuss, they managed to get rid of the speaker on another side of the line and clean part of the evidence.
’Anyway, those guys know very well that they left behind enough evidence for us to discover their past localization and also what they were talking about here in the previous conversations.’
Casper felt like he had hit the jackpot. Now he had a concrete and irrefutable proof of that secret organization, and how they were operating on these days.
However, he was aware that the investigation regarding that object could end up not going well.
While he was thinking those things, he was already experiencing those strange moments during the teleporting, which he didn’t bother too much with anymore.
After some time waiting, he was already in front of the mansion.
There were some Ridires already taking notes of the occurred there, as well as healers taking care of the people that hurt themselves while running away and also giving psychological assistance to calm down those who were in panic.
The soldier walked through that place, remembering to put the hood of his suit to cover his white hair entirely.
He looked around, trying to find Leonel. Soon he spotted him sitting in a corner and being treated by some Healers.
Actually, his wounds already received the basic treatment, and that people were moving now to another patient necessitating their help.
Leonel returned with his sarcastic expression and ironic tone of voice.
"Hi, White warrior. It seems that your night stroll didn’t end too well..." He looked at him from top to bottom, noticing his bruises.
"Shut up, Leonel. No time for jokes, I got something interesting for us." He crouched beside the Sgail, giving discreetly to him the speaker he picked on the street.
Leonel didn’t need to look at it to know what it was.
"How the hell did you got their speaker but not them!?" He snapped
"I shall punch your face when everything ends, Leonel. You are too annoying." The soldier confessed, for the first time stating his opinion about him.
The man giggled, lightly patting him on the back.
"Ok, I admit, you are good! So, how are the other people from group A?"
"Some died. I don’t know how many of them, and others got very hurt. The majority couldn’t catch up in time to fight with the Sgails, since they were so far away.
Leonel was sad about his hurt friends, and even more with the ones that died, but he didn’t show it. In truth, everything that Casper could see was his eyes narrowing slightly, but the sarcasm was still present there.
’I don’t know if this guy is cold or just an irremediable idiot...’
The Sgail got up from the ground, looking satisfied to all the Jarls that they could maintain safe and sound.
"Don’t worry about it, White warrior. Your first mission is complete successfully! All the Jarls are ok, including those five ones that were the targets. We have a lot of new information and evidence as well!"
He turned to Casper.
"Let’s find our comrades, gather together, and go to the Headquarters. We are done here."
