Chapter 216: Frenetic chase

After Leonel shouted the order, he raised his gun and was ready to shot at the criminals before they could reach the window. The noise of the Drakkar out there was getting louder, it was easy to assume that they were right beside the mansion, just waiting for them to jump through that window and embark.

However, before he could even pull the trigger, a shot was heard and his arm fell dead beside his body. He got shot near his shoulder and the impact made him stumble to the side. Another shot came, he raised his forearm in front of his head, activating a device on his wrist.

Before the shot could strike Leonel on the face, a blue shield appeared in his forearm. It was a force field that stopped the bullet as if it was nothing. However, its duration was short as well, so as soon as the next shot landed, it disappeared.

The Sgail turned to retaliate against the criminal shooting at him, but he ran like a lightning bolt through that stage, turning it hard for Leonel to target him. He threw his knife on his left hand and it struck his thigh, but not prevented him to jump from the stage, break the window and disappear out there.

Casper and the other two Sgails were trying to target the other criminals as well but was being difficult for them. Just as Leonel had his own means to defend himself with technology, the same applied to the criminals, who activated shields, threw smoke grenades, and ran for their lives.

The White warrior and his comrades ended up with light harm, but Leonel was the worst of the four. His wound on the shoulder was looking really bad and his entire body was shaking from the pain. He wouldn’t be able to run properly, shoot, or fight. There was no way that he could keep going.

"Ok, I will be taking care of Leonel." One of the Sgails said, running after him, who seemed not too pleased for being treated like a kid.

"I will look after the other Jarls to make sure they will evacuate as fast as possible." The other informed, running towards the exit.

"Be careful, there are people who got behind during the speech. I am not sure if they are Jarls or Criminals!" The man answered Casper’s warn with a thumbs up, then started to go down the stairs as quickly as possible.

’Ok, it leaves me with not so many options. In short, I will be the one who will need to give chase after those criminals. That’s awesome...’

He ran to the window, looking outside there and seeing where that Drakkar was.

The vehicle wasn’t right beside the mansion anymore and was already going up and forward to another place.

’I won’t let it happen!’

He turned around, running to the exit as well while saying to his comrades that he was going to search for those criminals.

"I won’t let them run away. Will be back in some minutes, don’t worry!’ As he said it, the Sgail was starting his treatment and helping Leonel.

Casper went down the stairs in a hurry, going faster than he thought he could go. If he did not rush so much like that, it would be difficult to catch up with a flying Drakkar moving at a reasonable speed.

He picked up his phone as well, typing some numbers and calling someone.

"Hello? Group A, we will need that you pay attention to what will happen now. The enemies are running away from us, embarked in a flying Drakkar. We count on your help to arrest them. Thank you very much!" He didn’t wait for the answer and just hung up.

The soldier burst into the exit door of the mansion, pushing a lot of Jarls trying to evacuate from there.

Some Jarls were already in the front yard of the house, trying to catch their breaths and calling their families to see if everything was okay.

Casper passed by them in a rush, looking to the skies and seeing the flying Drakkar avoiding the numerous residential buildings in the way. He didn’t know if he would be able to catch up with them, from his perspective they were slow, but they surely were faster than it seemed.

Regardless of being slower or faster than it, he kept giving chase at them, trying to, at least, not lose sight of the vehicle.

The criminals on top of there started to appear on the edges of the Drakkar, pointing guns at the soldier and starting to shoot at him.

At this point, Casper was giving all he got into that rush, avoiding the bullets by inches and crossing the streets at an abnormal speed, that was increasing each time more.

’That’s not the first time I use an exoskeleton on my legs, but it’s still a strange feeling. Anyway, I will use its max potential and reach them before I destroy the muscles of my legs!’

Before he went to the mission, the Sgails offered a few technologies to support him throughout the operation. Of course, he got some of the most useful and familiar with. The exoskeleton was one of them.

Once Casper got into range for that, he drew a gun similar to a pistol, but with a much wider barrel. Inside of it was a hook.

’I never did it, but it seemed to be easy on the movies!’ He pointed the grappling hook to the Drakkar and then shoot it. The hook made its way at a high speed and struck the side of its structure.

Soon, Casper’s body was launched forward. Not just the grappling hook was pulling his body, but the Drakkar’s movement as well.

’Damn!’ He yelled in his mind when his body nearly hit a building that they just had avoided.

’That’s the disadvantage to make this kind of thing with a vehicle in movement, huh? I knew this, but it’s harder than--’ Before he could finish his line of thought a bullet pierced the air millimeters away from his flank. He barely was shot and it got him more uncomfortable with the idea of staying attached to that Drakkar.

’I am an easy target here! I need to do something, so I can get there as fast as possible! I already contacted beforehand group A, but I don’t know when they will catch up with me."

Another bullet was shot. Casper swung his body to the side, kicking a building that was right beside him. He could manage to avoid the shots they gave on him doing that same maneuver.

The residential district from that floor had a lot of huge buildings, so it wasn’t hard to have one to rely on when the danger came.

As long as his body continued moving all the time like that, they hardly would be able to target him.

Just as Casper was thinking again on group A, and when they would arrive to help him, he spotted a couple of shadows moving on top of the near buildings; they were swiftly crossing them and approaching the Drakkar.

’Haha! talking about the devil!’

Casper pulled the trigger of the grappling hook again, making it pull him in the direction of that flying vehicle. On his other hand, he drew his gun, ready to protect himself if needed.

"It’s tricky to have a good aim with this rope going to all sides and needing to switch my focus all the time to not smash my face in a random construction, but as long as I can manage it, I will be alive!’

One of the Sgails from group A got into a position where it would be perfect to reach that Drakkar. He didn’t wait for any further and jumped with all his might towards that ship.

At the same time, the other Sgails used grappling hooks just like Casper’s to attach themselves into the Drakkar’s deck and be sure that they would land there even from far away.

After this, what Casper saw was a result of years of intensive training.

About ten Sgails could jump to the top of that Drakkar, landing perfectly. Others got hanging on it just like Casper; three of them, but they were closer to the ship hull than him and already putting sticky bombs near to its thrusters.

The Sgails who were on the desk maintained the criminals busy, preventing them to get in the way of the others who were below.

They fought with synchrony, seeming one part of the same body. Even though they had a numerical disadvantage, they were taking the better out of the situation.

Casper also tagged along to help to plant the bombs near the air thrusters.

Soon, the Sgails were already retrieving, jumping from the boat, others dropping from the hopes to near buildings.

Once Casper landed on a building near to some Sgails, he heard the bombs exploding, and when he turned to watch it, he could see the flying Drakkar falling from the skies and hitting the ground.
