District 42-Chapter 217: The criminals retaliate
The Sgails had made that attack bordering perfection. It was just incredible how fast and harmonic their teamwork was. Casper nearly felt apart from the group because of that, he didn’t feel the same synergy as they felt with each other. At least, he could manage to put some of the explosives on the thrusters and end with that assault as fast as possible.
Once he saw that Drakkar falling exactly on the street and not affecting any of the buildings around, he noticed that the Sgails even managed to calculate where the explosives should activate, so they didn’t turn that residential zone into ruins and wreckage.
’If it was me doing it, I probably would have killed some of the people who are sleeping quietly on one of these buildings...’ He thought, ashamed, remembering what he did with that laser on the Third Lab. He still was condemning himself because of that thing.
Casper approached some of the Sgails, looking to that Drakkar as if it had ended, but deep inside he was wondering whether it was enough to kill them or not.
The Drakkar’s structure was now completely broken, there was even fire covering its body. If someone got stuck into the remains of that flying ship, then they were already burning until their skin and bones melt.
Nonetheless, it didn’t last too long for the Sgails to start to run again in the same direction as the Drakkar fell, but slightly turning to the left.
The White warrior didn’t need to ask what was happening to comprehend that those criminals were still alive somehow.
’I cannot understand how they survived against such a terrifying and abrupt attack, but that’s no surprise if they have about the same technology as we have to support us. I can imagine a lot of different devices that could have helped them to get out of that situation. I don’t know how these Sgails realized that they aren’t dead, but all I got to do right now is to believe in them and keep running.’
The soldier was following his new comrades in a rush through the buildings. The Sgails were jumping several meters high and covering a huge distance, which helped them to keep chasing the criminals on top of those constructions.
Just like Casper, they were using exoskeletons on their legs, and some probably on their arms. They were more used to wear those things, though, so they could use more of their potential. Also, Casper was still not with his body 100% recovered, he was trying to not push himself too much, so he wouldn’t need to worry about messing with his muscles or bone structure.
Because he was holding himself, the White warrior was getting behind and there were some jumps that he barely was able to accomplish. He tried to catch up with them as he could, but it was quite difficult.
’Where are those criminals now? We are so far away from where the explosion happened that is nearly unbelievable to think that they could run away so distant from there.’ Casper was starting to suspect that the Sgails didn’t spot them and were just trying to track their steps, but soon all of them dispersed, spreading themselves on different points of that zone.
Casper didn’t have time to be lost or confused there, so he guessed what was happening.
’If they are dispersing like this, then it means that we will be attacked!’ Casper was far away from them already, in another different building. He looked to the sides, trying to spot from where the enemies would arrive.
He was sure that they would appear on top of the constructions as well, there was no other way around. The soldier couldn’t spot other Drakkars coming their way and any type of technology could be heard being activated.
The White warrior put his finger firmly on to the trigger of his pistol, sharpening his senses and breathing as slowly as he could.
In a building far away, a criminal appeared. He was wearing high-tech boots with flame thrusters on their sole, which made him fly into the air at a considerable speed.
’What the...! So they have such technology with them!’
Casper was prepared to point his gun at the criminal flying and going in the direction of the distracted Sgail, but he heard a strange sound coming from his right and he knew exactly what it was.
Another man wearing the same boots got on top of the building quickly and landed on the ground. He didn’t wait for any further and ran in Casper’s direction.
’He wants to come in the offensive, but closely. He is bare-handed, though... What’s with this guy!?’ The soldier switched his aim, pointing it to the criminal attacking him.
The speed of his opponent was noticeable and he could enter into range to parry Casper’s hand before he could pull the trigger.
His other palm was wide-open and the White warrior noticed that he was wearing a different glove on that one that had strange symbols on it.
’Damn!’ Casper tried to jump backward and avoid the attack, but the criminal smashed his palm onto his chest. Right after, the glove’s symbols started to lit up in a strange yellow-reddish light and it exploded in a burst of fire.
The soldier has launched several meters away, nearly falling from the building, but managing to stop before it happened.
Restlessly the criminal rushed towards him again, not giving him the time to think more. His glove was still burning, now looking two times more threatening as before.
Anyway, the soldier didn’t need to think too much to know what that glove did. In truth, he had studied that technology before and even used one in a training.
He remembered exactly how Second managed to use that glove against him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The White warrior used all the strength in his legs to also run towards that man, who got surprised with his initiative.
They got into the range of attack and the criminal was the first one to react, attacking Casper with another blow using his gloved hand.
The soldier leaped to the side, changing suddenly his direction. It was a maneuver just possible because of the exoskeleton.
He avoided the burning glove swiftly, but before he could get past the criminal, he grabbed him by the wrist.
Casper punched him right below his armpit, using enough strength to numb all his right arm. He twisted it in a way so he could point the criminal’s hand to his face.
The man’s eyes widened once he realized what Casper was doing. He even tried to avoid it, but the soldier was faster and put the palm of the glove on the criminal’s face. The glove burnt violently and then exploded.
It wasn’t a beautiful scene to watch but needed to be made. The soldier avoided his eyes from the burnt face of the criminal, looking at how things were going on the other buildings.
The Sgails were doing a good job dealing with those guys. They were excellent martial artists and well equipped with the highest level of offensive technology. Some of those were just sold in the black market and not even the Princess knew that they used it.
’Talking about the black market, I was thinking that they would have something of the sort, but both the boots and the gloves aren’t something illegal. They don’t seem to be stealing it as well... I can only relate it with the fake companies that are buying some items but don’t have any activity other than that at all.’
Even if the Sgails were doing good work, the soldier felt the need to go help them. Actually, kill one of the criminals, although it was needed, was a mistake as well. They should maintain those people alive to interrogate them afterward and get more information about that secret organization. Probably, the Sgails wouldn’t gain too much, but each piece of information was precious there.
Casper used all the strength on his legs, supported by the exoskeleton, to jump to other buildings and catch up with his other comrades. Before he could reach them, though, he had a realization.
’Wait a second, was it so few criminals attacking us before?’ He frowned deeply, suddenly stopping his rush and looking around. ’No. I am sure of it, there were more. They were even outnumbering the Sgails. But... where are they now, what are they planning?’
The soldier was looking around. He was prepared for any threat that could appear. His knees were bending slightly, so Casper would be faster if he needed to move.
Just as he was trying to analyze the terrain and spot someone, he heard a sound coming from somewhere. He didn’t know exactly where it was, but the sound was near enough for him to hear. The Sgails probably didn’t realize it since they were so absorbed in their fights.
’It’s coming from... That building!’
