Chapter 214: Among the crowd

Everyone got paralyzed once that man started his speech. It was hard to say if that was a joke or not.

In truth, most of the Jarls there were drunk and their sense of judgment wasn’t at its best. Because of it most of them laughed at that sight.

However, for both Leonel and Casper, it was clear what was going on there.

’This guy... He obviously isn’t a Jarl... But, what kind of show is that? Why the hell they are showing themselves like this? Are they really just joking around?’ Leonel was stuck in a puzzle that he couldn’t solve no matter what.

However, the worst thing there weren’t the old questions he had in his mind since they discovered that Organization, but the ones that appeared at that hall.

’Anyway, the problem is how will I get all these people out of here without getting them all killed? Will they bother to kill them or just aim at us? Who is Jarl and who is the enemy?"

Someone started to talk on the line of Leonel’s call and he answered it quickly.

Just as he had asked, the person was saying each name to him.

While he heard it he also paid attention to the speech of that man.

"I am not trying to get you all riled up and stressed right now, but... it’s unfortunate to say that I am an enemy. By the way, we are your enemies..."

The Jarls were still laughing at that man’s face and he seemed to be kidding, indeed. His voice wasn’t serious at all.

"Well, continuing, there are a lot of people from my dear team among you. I am an enemy right in front of your eyes and you can even kill me somehow, but the issue will be found who more you will need to kill afterward."

The man clasped his hands near his body, giving the vibe of a teacher.

"There are some of you that are quite interesting, to be honest, and you are the ones that we are aiming for."

The Jarls weren’t finding that funny anymore and soon the laughs turned into embarrassed giggles. Another quote of that man made it become silence.

"If you try to react, run away, or even scream, we will kill your family." He stated without any hesitation.

The man stayed quiet for some time, just staring with foxy eyes towards every single person inside that hall.

"Ah? Don’t you believe me? Is it what I am supposing? Ok, then..." He took a controller from behind his clothes, pointing it to another extreme of the room. A projector was activated.

Soon, on the wall behind the stage, a screen appeared. It split into other small screens, each one showing a different recording.

Those recordings were made by people on the outside of buildings, rounding them and showing what was going on inside there.

Most of them were displaying normal people, some sleeping, others doing all sorts of other activities.

"You all know who these people are, right? What I said before was not an exaggeration at all. It is being recorded right now, in live."

People became agitated inside the hall. One could feel the pressure that befell on everyone there.

"Shhh... Shhh! What did I say before? Silence." He put a finger in front of his sad mask, ordering them to stay quiet.

"Don’t worry, we will be taking care really well of your beloved ones if you cooperate and stay quiet by now. What about it?"

His proposal wasn’t accepted by anyone, but nobody could deny it as well.

"Ah! That’s right. Just one more... thing, hehe." While the man spoke it very slowly, his eyes crossed the crowd once again, but this time stopping in a specific person.

"We know that you all are here and around the mansion. If you try to do something, they will die as well. I hope you stay as quiet as those Jarls here."

Leonel returned the stare of that man, nearly smashing his cellphone with his hand in frustration.

’They knew since the start! They knew that we would be taking the guard here. Damn it!" The Sgail saw his plans being shattered in front of his eyes, and now he was in a situation where he couldn’t do anything.

There were hostages not just around him, but in different points of the castle. Not all the Jarls lived in the same residential zone. Also, enemies were surrounding them and they couldn’t know where they were.

’That’s... That’s just pathetic. They are several steps ahead of us. Our plan hadn’t too many flaws on it, but It wasn’t as good and well prepared as theirs...’

The Sgail turned off his phone and let it drop on the ground. Just when he did so that the man on the stage took off his eyes from him.

’I need to do something here! But what do I do? There are just too many people gathered here with who knows how many criminals. I can’t call an Aesir either since he already spotted me.’

Leonel got to a painful, but realistic conclusion.

’I will need to just wait and see how things will unfold here. Maybe it will appear an opportunity throughout this action...’

He decided to wait and watch carefully what those guys would do.

The man on the stage walked back and forth, as if choosing each Jarl he would need one by one.

"Ok, the families I will call now will be going up this stage, ok? If there is more than one from the same family, I just want the father. The grandfather would be perfect as well. And don’t lie to me, I know exactly who is here and who is not."

He clapped his hands, again acting as a teacher from kindergarten, maintaining the kind and sympathetic facade.

"Ok, then... Eoin!"

Gils, who was too drunk, but conscious enough to know that it wasn’t a joke, stumbled quietly to the top of the stage.

"Ax."

Kaleb also moved towards the stage, with no hint of fear in his eyes.

"Clach."

A Jarl broke away from the grip of his wife, walking with his legs shaking towards the stage. He was the father of the family responsible for the architecture, engineering, and black steel production of the district.

"Cridhe"

That family was responsible for the main supply of medicine of the district, and also was the one that built the Healing centers from all cities.

"Neart."

Another man came out of the crowd. That was the most important Jarl of the district. He was the one responsible for the discovery of the Indigo energy. His family carried the weight of the evolution and power of the entire District 42.

If everything amazing created by the man was working and had the energy source to exist in that district, that man’s family was responsible for this.

If not for the interruption of the criminal on the stage, he would be the one doing the speech that night.

With that, the criminal ended his call. No other Jarls were aimed, just those five, which were the top 5 most powerful, rich, and influential families of District 42.

Once Leonel realized it, he was out of breath.

’No... That’s not just joking around! To hell with it! They surely aren’t just trying to make a fuss, or start a chaotic situation here. Their goals are bigger than we could ever imagine." The Sgail frowned hard, clenching his fists.

’If those families out there weren’t taken as hostages I could... Wait, what’s that?’ Once he changed his focus to the screens on the wall, he noticed that one by one they started to turn off all of a sudden.

Someone approached him, which surprised Leonel.

"They are nearly done." It was Casper.

"W-what?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"I took advantage of the atmosphere to call Vick. They didn’t seem to have noticed me either, so it was easier to make it happen. She ordered some Sgails and Ridires to take care of those families. They are targetting the criminals now, so the hostage situation is over out there."

Leonel widened his eyes to the White warrior, his excitement raising on his chest.

He never got so glad to have someone entering his team before.

"Good, White warrior! That’s how things must be done." He sighed in relief after complimenting Casper. "Now we just need to get out of this situation before things get crazier."

He thought for a while, then had a realization that made him smile.

"We can run away from here!"

Casper looked at him dumbfounded, looking around to all those people inside the hall.

"Don’t worry about them. They won’t kill the Jarls. They need them. Otherwise, why do you think they made their families as hostages instead of this entire hall and threatened to kill just the Sgails?"

Once Casper heard it he nodded with his head.

"That’s awesome. Then, let’s do a comeback here before they notice the screens!" The soldier spoke.
