Chapter 213: Already infiltrated

Casper was talking with another Jarl for the time being. He was still in the assembly room trying to find the right people to talk with. He could converse with three Jarls of distinct families that gave to him some information he needed, but the soldier felt that he was still missing something important.

With the Jarls he could talk with, he discovered other transactions between them and other enterprises and corporations that didn’t have proper registration. Those corporations had a strong connection with that secret organization.

Also, some of them had a lot to say about the increasing number of Jarls inside the Castle and how the birth of those different companies was affecting them economically, making it hard to be accepted by the overall public in the market.

Casper found it interesting that those fake enterprises and corporations were somehow doing this sort of attack through the market on those Jarls, even though they weren’t providing service for the people.

’So... the assaults aren’t just physically, huh? They discovered a way to make the same thing happen economically as well... But no matter how much I look at it these people just want to see the circus burning. Their goal seemed to be chaos and nothing more...’ Casper believed that something like terrorism could happen inside the district, even into the Castle, but he wasn’t sure how low the odds were.

’I mean, even though there are people out there holding a grudge against the high society of the district, they would be aiming to do something better to make this government fall, not just cause despair on people, right? The Midwest Battle had this objective, after all. The main reason was to invade the castle, catch the princess, and make the Royal family get submissive... Now, it’s just a bunch of incoherent attacks...’

He was talking on automatic mode with the Jarl beside him. He wasn’t even looking into his eyes. The soldier was doing rounds on his mind trying to get a conclusion from all of that. Casper knew he couldn’t just be rambling there and don’t get into anywhere, after all.

Each step closer that he could get towards that Rat was crucial at that moment. Those pieces of information reassured the fact that the organization was really active and their motivations aren’t good since they are investing lots of money in dangerous technologies, guns, and so on. Nonetheless, the soldier needed something that showed to him the way he needed to take to get them.

"Oh! I nearly forgot! We need to go to the final speech, it’s just in some minutes, after all." The man talking to him warned, waking up the soldier from his deep thoughts.

"Ah, okay. Better that we go now, then. No wonder the assembly room is so empty now."

Casper just saw some people wandering around there.

’Hmm... maybe these people are unwilling to go there. I don’t want as well, but it would be suspicious if I stayed here.’ He thought, looking at those few Jarls getting behind.

He walked with that man to the final floor, the 5th. There were a lot of stairs until that point of the mansion, it was very high.

When they were on their way to the fifth floor, someone passed running by Casper. With just a glance he knew that the clothes of that man were the same as Leonel.

’W-what is going on with Leonel? He is in a rush so... It means that the infiltration will happen! But where? From where they will be arriving? And why the group A didn’t say anything to us!?’

The soldier was getting agitated. He didn’t know from where to start, he was lost.

’I need to discover what’s going on!’ Quickly, he said goodbye to the Jarl leaving him behind and running after Leonel.

Since the stairs were slightly crowded, it was hard for Casper to catch up with him. He needed to bump and push a lot of people in the way and he was sure that someone fell downstairs because of him.

"I am sorry! Sorry for this! Let me pass, please!" He spoke as he kept pushing towards Leonel.

’Damn it! I can’t say his name now. He probably wouldn’t even recognize my voice due to the rush he seems to be in, and people is talking loud around here so he might think it has nothing to do with him.’

The soldier couldn’t do anything other than run through the stairs as fast as possible.

Casper could catch up with the Sgail just when they arrived at the fourth floor, which left him with more space to move.

"Hey, Leonel! What’s going on, man? You just appeared running all of a sudden..." The White warrior was talking to him on the side, trying to not draw too much attention whispering hastily.

"Shh... Hear me instead of talk like a rascal. We need to get to the fifth floor as fast as we can. Just tag along with me until there and then I explain to you what’s happening here." He continued to burst through the crowd of Jarls who looked at him annoyed. Casper tagged along with the Sgail, trying to maintain the same pace as him.

’There is something off here, but I can’t see anything around. There are no suspicious sounds, no fuss, no clear threat at all... Maybe the enemy is being more sneaky than we predicted they would be...’

They finally got to the fifth floor, and it was very similar to the big hall of the entrance or the assembly room, but bigger. Casper couldn’t help himself but get stupefied by that sight.

The walls were even more filled with all sorts of nordic decorations one could imagine. There were some swords and shields there. Some maps of the world that were too worn out to be deciphered were glued to the ceiling.

"That’s something amazing... And, hey, that stage at the end of this floor is big as hell as well! Probably, the speech will be conducted there." He rambled, giving a good look at all that place before staring at Leonel.

The man was doing the same as Casper did before. His eyes passed by each corner of that room. However, that was not to see the decorated hall, but the people inside it.

"Listen well, White warrior..." He stopped to look at all those people, looking at him instead. "There is something wrong with those potential invaders because they don’t seem to be here, there are no strange actions outside as well."

His face got more serious once he started to talk about his theory.

"I don’t know what happened or how they did it without our team noticing beforehand but... We are already under attack!"

Casper nearly jumped in despair from where he was, slowly looking to the sides, as if trying to spot something that was hidden under his nose.

He approached Leonel even more, positioning his right hand on his gun.

"Are you sure about it, Leonel? Did they make it inside the mansion?"

Leonel seemed to not be too secure about that question.

"I am not sure, but that’s the only explanation. I heard before that the list of guests this season was incredibly high for some reason. It wasn’t a normal amount of people. Also, as you can see, the mansion is crowded and there is not enough space, so..."

"So there are people inside this meeting that shouldn’t be here."

Leonel nodded to him, that was the first time that his usually sarcastic behavior was substituted by a serious face.

Leonel was walking through the fifth floor with Casper and both were looking at the people there, trying to find someone that was suspicious. Nevertheless, they had no clue from where to start and who ask, who suspect...

"We can’t keep up like this. Let’s do this way: since you were more enrolled with the Jarls than me and I am sure you studied about them, keep working on find someone suspicious." Leonel ordered. Casper didn’t wait for the other part and parted ways with him, rushing through the fifth floor.

"That guy is fast and grasp things quickly. I like it." He muttered while picking his smartphone and calling someone.

"Hello? Leonel here. I must be fast, ok? Well, I need to know right now what are the new Jarls coming for this Season’s meeting. Everyone who wasn’t in the past list and can be taken as suspicious."

The person on the other side of the line didn’t even take the time to greet Leonel. The sounds of paper moving hastily and a quick typing could be heard.

The Sgail waited anxiously for the answer, but something nearly made his phone drop from his hand.

Someone was going up the stage and facing all the people gathered there. He had the usual clothes of the Jarls, but he wasn’t the person who would do the speech.

"Good night for everyone! My name doesn’t matter now, but I will be the one charged for the speech today..."

Once Leonel grasped the malice behind his words, he knew exactly what was going on.
