District 42-Chapter 207: Discovering more
After the explanation gave by Reynar, all the three inside that room felt too awkward to say something more, so they just kept staring at each other for some time.
"Well, what about we talk more about our main reason to come here, then? I think this way we can forget a little bit about the bad news from a moment ago, right?" Casper still had some things he wanted to ask for Reynar before he left the Fourth Lab with Adam, and one of them was definitely the Teleporting pads.
"Oh, yeah... I remember it..." For a moment, just like he wasn’t entirely aware of his surroundings, the old man seemed to be dumbfounded by Casper’s approach. His face returned to the friendlier way it had before, and the atmosphere of the room got lighter after this.
"You were asking about how the Teleporting pads work exactly, right?"
Casper nodded with his head.
"Yes."
"Well, there are some things I can say about how it works, but I doubt that most of it you don’t know already, particularly because you are working with Adam, and the project he is into by now seems to be related to it."
Casper, indeed, had some knowledge about how the particle separator of the Teleporting pads operated, and how it directed them to their destiny, just to be gathered together again. It was a complex process to be made from zero, but when you are aiming to comprehend how it worked, it was quite easy to understand.
However, what Casper was aiming to know there wasn’t exactly the process itself.
"Well, I agree with you. The transmigration of particles is something that I and Adam are working together for some time, so I have the basic knowledge about it, but there is something more... Do you remember what Adam said when he entered here?"
"Hmm... He said something about what would happen if the Teleporting pads stopped working... Is that it?"
Casper nodded energetically to the man, approaching his chair a bit more closer to the table and resting his arms on top of it.
"I was wondering now... The circulation of people inside the Castle, mainly between the floors, is just possible because of your technology, so I suppose that your enterprise might be here since the start of all this environment of the Castle."
The man was kind of surprised by Casper’s judgment, and he admitted to himself that the White warrior was a cunning person.
"Yes, your guess is completely right. Since the Forger could make this Castle, we are working here."
He had pride in his voice, and also nostalgia as if he was remembering something from a long time ago.
"Our enterprise was born because of him. The father of my grandfather was prompted by the forger to do this. He was a scientist that was always compelled to work on particle separation, transmigration, and reconstruction. His inventions helped not just in the transport field, but also in the medicine."
The soldier found that part of history to be quite interesting. Now, he knew that the Castle was there for more or less 5 generations, so it had about 400 to 500 years of life. It wasn’t that old.
"I see... Well, during these nearly 5 centuries, the Teleporting pads never stopped to work, bugged, or a defective one was made?"
Reynar denied immediately with his head, his chest inflating with even more pride.
"No! Our team has always been very competent, and our invention borders the perfection. The Castle and its citizens always could count with the Teleporting pads of our enterprise for their transportation necessities, and all the time!" He stated with authority in his voice.
The soldier was doing rounds and rounds on his mind, and that hypothesis was making him get even more excited about that conversation. The tension from minutes ago completely vanished, and even Adam was attentively hearing what they have to say.
"Hmm, I see... So I think we can discard completely the possibility of its system or mechanical operation to be messed someday, right?"
The old man nodded, crossing his arms. He was very confident in his creation, and a reality in which the Teleporting pads stopped working was something unbelievable for him; it was merely fiction.
"Even if Indigo Energy stops to supply them?" That was the key question he had for the old man since he knew very well that the Teleporting pads, as well as any other potent technology of District 42, needed Indigo Energy to work.
"No, not even if it happens. The Teleporting pads have a top-quality Power Generator. It is one of the few technologies in the District, or rather, even inside the Castle, that has something like this. It’s quite unstable, but most likely it would maintain the Teleporting pads functioning for some days, or even weeks."
Casper crossed his arms, out of possibilities to think about. Apparently, there was no way to make those things not work. As far as he knew, it was very resistant as well, so even an accident that threatened to break it would be very rare, and even if it happened, it wouldn’t be an issue to fix it.
The soldier was trying to search for something more, but nothing came into mind, so he gave up on it. At least, it was a good conversation, and he could be assured now that the main transport of the Castle wouldn’t stop working all of a sudden.
"What do you know about Indigo Energy, then?" The White warrior decided to change the subject since he was cornered in the previous one.
"Hmm, I will be blunt with you, Casper..." The face of Reynar got serious again once he heard that question, but just for a moment. "People already stopped to try to comprehend Indigo Energy... It’s something that, unfortunately, and as amazing as it seems to be, is beyond science. I think you can even relate it to magic."
The soldier got dumbfounded at that moment. His mind was trying to absorb what he just heard.
"Sorry, I think I can’t understand it quite... Until now, all the amazing things I saw in the District are made based on Indigo Energy, and everything is technological. So... how can you use something you don’t even understand completely and come to this kind of result?"
The man got in deep thought about it. He was trying to explain that matter, but he didn’t know exactly how he could say that.
So far, Adam was completely quiet, but he finally opened his mouth to answer that question himself.
"For a long time, the humans utilized fire to make a lot of things, so they could survive. They didn’t understand how combustion works, they were aware just of what they need to do to make it happen. We are about the same. Indigo Energy goes beyond the normal concept of energy or electricity. There is no way that we can find any fundament on it. It interacts with the different elements of nature in a different way."
Even Adam couldn’t say clearly how that energy worked, but the explanation utilizing fire was convincing enough to Casper for the time being. Indeed, since the start, people seemed to refer to the technical matters of Indigo Energy too vaguely.
The White warrior always wondered why, but now he had a reason, at least. Not being blinded about the Castle’s issues and fundaments were very good from a start. In the future, Casper could look forward to knowing more about Indigo Energy.
"If this energy interacts with nature differently from what any other should interact, then it can have a huge influence on how I ended up appearing on District 42 all of a sudden... Maybe there is something in my world that can help me to discover what Indigo exactly is, and even give me a hint of how it works for real."
After the explanations and the pleasant conversation about science, Reynar seemed to be getting too busy again, so Adam decided to say goodbye to him and left the Fourth Lab. Also all his issues there were solved, and he had a lot of work to do as well, so there was no point in remain in that place.
The genius scientist and the soldier thanked the old man, then went out of there and headed to the exit of the Fourth Lab.
"Are you sure that you don’t want to take a better look around this place, Casper?" Adam questioned him, while they were on their way to the exit.
"Well, I got along really well with some scientists here, so I will be having plenty of opportunities to come in another day. We have a lot to do, after all..."
Adam lit up the third cigarette he would smoke on that day while asking Casper a dangerous question.
"Maybe you will try to find some more information about Canute and the criminals? You were quite concerned about it..."
Casper’s heart throbbed, and he giggled, trying to hide his nervousness.
"You are the man, Adam... You are the man... As if I am some sort of punisher... hehe."
The atmosphere between them kept tense until they could get to the Main Lab again.
