Chapter 556: Chapter 556: Reinforcements?

Yu Sheng at this moment could no longer hear the sounds emanating from the high platform—he crossed that blazing battlefield and the vast temple ruins surrounded by Fox Fire and wrapped in Protective Spirit Qi, and for a moment, he felt as if time itself was slowing down.

The howling beyond the Protective Spirit Qi seemed distant and blurred, and as the Fox Radish Missiles sped up rapidly, the edges of his vision stretched and warped. He looked down from the sky and saw the viscous shadows rising like slow-motion ocean waves at the edge of the temple, with countless grotesque shadows frantically charging towards the invaders on the high platform. A wall of ghostly blue flames formed at the edge of the shadow tide, and intertwined beams and a rain of fire poured down at the edge of the platform, smoke billowed, and war fires surged.

Even though he knew those shadows had no self-consciousness and were merely some sort of "ancient aberrant shadows" operating entirely by instinct, Yu Sheng couldn’t help but feel moved in that moment.

He took a gentle breath, lowered his body on the fox tail, and in the corner of his vision, a gigantic "Immortal Bird" with splendid tail feathers and surrounded by a rainbow spiritual light was closing in from the side. Yu Sheng glanced at this being, wondering whether it was White Cut or Salt Roasted—then noticed it occasionally looking at him with its slick, black eyes.

Yu Sheng thought for a moment and suddenly blurted out, "Can you talk?"

Watcher shook its head, "Nope."

Yu Sheng: "...?"

Holy crap, did Hu Li really feed these things into having Spiritual Wisdom!?

Yu Sheng was utterly shocked, but before he could continue speaking, a sudden alarm rose sharply in his heart. He instinctively dodged to the side, and at the edge of his vision, a lightning-like black rift suddenly tore through Space!

In great surprise, he hurriedly looked down and saw the shadows surging in the temple ruins rapidly deforming and rising!

The dark shadow tide, operating entirely by instinct, seemed to have "perceived" something. As Yu Sheng crossed the outer area of the temple past those pillars, those viscous shadows immediately locked onto the invading enemies in the sky. The "tide" that was originally surging out of the ruins even momentarily presented a spectacular scene of rolling back violently, with large swathes of shadows piling up, extending "arms" towards the sky.

While the countless shadows accumulated and surged towards the sky, twisted ripples appeared around the Divine Corpse at the center of the ruins, and again a pitch-black rift struck towards Yu Sheng like lightning!

"Crap, it even has close-in weapon systems..."

Yu Sheng exclaimed in surprise, seeing a Fox Tail beside him suddenly light up with propelling flames, blocking that rift in the roaring of the Fox Fire. The next second, with a piercing scream and tearing sound, the Protective Spirit Qi on the surface of the Fox Tail instantly extinguished, followed by another black "lightning" strike that shattered the fox tail into countless ghostly blue embers.

All fox tails suddenly started to accelerate, quickly adjusting their formation, attempting to carry Yu Sheng past this area before being fully shot down.

White Cut and Salt Roasted, circling Yu Sheng on both sides, also immediately reacted. Accompanied by two clear cries, multiple layers of Spiritual Power Shields closed in an instant, immediately diving towards the rising viscous shadows on the ground, fiercely tangling with the numerous limbs and deformed spikes surging towards the sky.

For a moment, all Yu Sheng could hear were deafening explosions and shrill screeches, intermixed with the chaotic cries of White Cut and Salt Roasted—sometimes sounding like crowing, sometimes like eagle screeches, and at times even echoing with ethereal chimes, completely in a state where Hu Li had raised them to not recognize their own species...

Subsequently, firepower support from that distant high platform joined the battle.

Dense, scorching beams and Foxfire Barrage poured onto the temple ruins, desperately suppressing the wildly surging shadow tide.

Yu Sheng’s entire body was tense as he saw the "Divine Corpse" like a Little Shan rapidly magnifying in his field of vision. Those deformed, chaotic, piled-up limbs loomed like a jagged skeleton forest towards him, with rifts of fluctuation tearing open amidst the remnants, as black lightning frantically swept across the sky—merely the unconscious "release" of a broken remnant during its decay possessing destructive power!

In the decayed remnants, beneath the gaping rupture, the massive, mysterious ancient mechanism became increasingly clear.

It appeared to be a composite structure formed by three tower-like pillars, each with a silvery-gray metallic texture, and at their three-column center, a cube-like object continually disassembled and reassembled, with pale golden streams of light escaping from the cube’s edges, rhythmically flickering with each cyclic transformation.

The piercing shriek sounded again, and two Fox Tails in the corner of his vision were struck by black lightning, only resisting for a moment before being torn into shattered remnants.

With a giant surge of foreboding rising from deep within, Yu Sheng saw the edge of the Divine Corpse flicker once more with ripples of rift tearing—dense and spreading in waves!

"Damn..."

Yu Sheng only had time to think that things were not looking good when cold sweat broke out as he saw dozens of varying-sized rifts instantly covering the area near the Divine Corpse. Dense black "lightning" began to form and condense in the air!

In his mind, he heard a cry of warning from Erin: "Yu Sheng, watch out!"

White Cut and Salt Roasted let out loud screeches, desperately trying to break free from the entanglement of shadows. The few remaining protective fox tails charged from the side, only to be instantly torn to pieces by the black lightning filling the sky. Soon after, more black lightning appeared out of thin air from all directions, the turbulent energy in the air making Yu Sheng feel as if his blood was starting to boil—

As he pondered his impending demise, already planning his next death-wish adventure, a deep, majestic roar, imbued with a faintly familiar aura, suddenly broke the sky and rapidly approached from afar.

The enormous and peculiar pressure even seemed to slow down time.

Yu Sheng looked up in astonishment to see a spread of "whiteness" rapidly expanding from the direction of the large Space Rift atop the mountain peak.

He also saw a gigantic figure—a pure white giant dragon, its wings obscuring the sky and sun, with an elegantly elongated body. Its scales gleamed with a crystal-like texture against the chaotic sky.

The dragon, as if descended from the legendary age into the present world, roared and swooped down from high above, its wings flapping powerfully. The entire area behind her was covered in a layer of fading whiteness, creating a magnificent canopy. Shadows engulfed in this "fading" lost their colors instantly, frozen briefly as if trapped in the bygone years.

Yet, the "Divine Corpse" as the source of shadows remained unaffected by the dragon’s power. The spreading pale area abruptly halted near the square adjacent to the Divine Corpse, and then countless ripples of varying sizes reappeared in the air, black lightning began to gather once more.

Seeing this situation, Yu Sheng’s heart instinctively clenched, but the next second, he saw the pure white dragon neither trying to dodge nor avoid, but instead, she opened her giant mouth towards the center of the ruins where the Divine Corpse stood.

A roar, almost like thunder, shook the entire ruin, as a large breath akin to crystal dust poured down onto the ground.

Uncountable fine crystal dust bombarded the Divine Corpse, surprisingly and temporarily suppressing the spatial ripples fluctuating around it, the black lightning that had just gathered disappeared.

At this moment, Yu Sheng was completely befuddled, full of "What is this, who is this, where did it come from," these soul-searching questions. However, seeing the black lightning recede, he felt a spark of joy in his heart, and prepared to dive down.

But just as he pressed down his fox tail, without having the chance to accelerate, he noticed the Divine Corpse had already escaped from the influence of "Crystal Dust Breath," and large swathes of bizarre ripples appeared around it once more!

Even more terrifying, cracks began to appear on the main body of the Divine Corpse in an instant—countless scarlet eyes emerged from those countless cracks, scanning the surroundings frantically and chaotically, and all of them locked onto the descending Yu Sheng and the looming pure white giant dragon!

A horrifying mental impact flooded into his consciousness, enough to instantly mutate ordinary people into maddened flesh kin, this chaotic knowledge roared in his mind—although this impact had little effect on Yu Sheng, a massive amount of black lightning arrived in an instant, with a loud boom, his protective spirit qi was shattered, and the fox tail underneath him broke into fragmented sparks.

Yu Sheng’s entire body plunged towards those crazy and chaotic scarlet eyes.

At this critical moment, he saw the pure white dragon rush towards him—

The dragon opened her claws, seemingly trying to grab Yu Sheng, but for some reason, she hesitated for a moment, then at a perilous angle performed a sudden roll, surging downwards to catch Yu Sheng with her broad back. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Yu Sheng nearly got killed by the pile of hard scales under him.

Afterwards, he felt his body shake once more—the dragon, under the gaze of those scarlet eyes, almost fell but struggled up again with a roar, fighting fiercely as she headed towards the elevated area outside the ruins of the divine temple.

White Cut and Salt Roasted, finally free from the shadow’s entangle, followed close behind.

The bustling voice of the little puppet sounded in his mind: "What the heck is this, what’s happening, where did it come from—Yu Sheng, you know dragons?!"

Yu Sheng’s mind was still foggy, he could only respond: "I don’t know either!"

As his words fell, the dragon successfully and thrillingly broke through the most dangerous area around the Divine Corpse, then freed herself from the incessantly surging shadows that ascended into the air, and subsequently dived towards the high-stage area.

Halfway through, she tucked in her wings but suddenly seemed to realize something, quickly spreading her wings open, adjusting angles, and trying to slow down, her dragon claws reached out towards the high stage, switching through multiple grasping angles in the blink of an eye.

Yu Sheng suddenly felt something was amiss.
