Detective Agency of the Bizarre-Chapter 1346 - 186: The Remaining Five
Lu Li approached the group, the Yong Demon still lingering outside.
Not hiding his form and aura, Lu Li directly approached the center of the Inferior Demons’ group.
In the description of the Blue-Blooded Devil, the Bewitching Demon is like sulfuric poison fog spewed by the Flame Pillar, existing in the form of a gray mist. Their higher-level counterparts, the Heart Demons, are solid black mists.
Overlooking the horde-like Inferior Demons group, Lu Li quickly identified three suspicious gray mist formations surrounded by Inferior Demons, hesitating due to Lu Li’s intrusion—the tempting scent made them covetous, while their timidity caused indecision.
This was also reflected in the Inferior Demons they manipulated. The previously somewhat orderly group of Inferior Demons gradually turned chaotic, with some still lingering around the Bewitching Demon, others following Lu Li, and some falling into chaos.
Approaching the Bewitching Demon, Lu Li sensed a certain power integrating into the Dreamwalker. They attempted to beguile Lu Li, but like a stone thrown into the waves, it caused no splash.
Realizing the intruder was hard to deal with, the Bewitching Demon succumbed to timidity, beginning to flee like drifting smoke.
Still, they were a bit slow; Lu Li had already fallen among them. A glass box materialized from thin air, controlling and weakening them. As their aura weakened, a round hole appeared in the glass box, and Lu Li extended his left arm, effortlessly dealing with all three Bewitching Demons.
0.4 of humanity, nearly half less than in the Fire Ant Swamp. The expectation of earning a piece of humanity for each task seems overly optimistic.
Typically, Inferior Demons would panic and scatter once freed from control. However, the 4.5 of humanity Lu Li possessed drove the surrounding Inferior Demons into madness, swarming toward him. The spot he stood seemed to become a vortex, turbulent and raging around, while those further away slowly approached.
Lu Li had to remain in place, then withdrew into the Dreamwalker, as the Inferior Demons were too weak even to pierce the protection outside the soul.
The Inferior Demons flew into the protection like moths to a flame, turning into charcoal. Lu Li discerned the direction through the gaps and headed toward the distant Yong Demon.
The vortex moved slowly but gradually weakened and disappeared, leaving only a dozen following Lu Li, who were attracted by the scattered charred corpses nearby, swallowing them.
Lu Li nearly completely resolved the lurking threat on the western side of Beauty Lake Town.
"Did you see it all?"
"You’re powerful," the Yong Demon said warily, no longer salivating from the more tempting scent Lu Li emitted.
"Describe it to the Blue Blood Chief, and you can have a Fire Ant corpse."
"Leave it to me!"
The Bewitching Demon had no body, leaving only eyes like volcanic rocks with a rough surface, cooled like lava after its death.
The three Bewitching Demon eyes brought an unexpected surprise; the Blue Blood Chief said they were common materials, worth about 20 souls.
Unfortunately, the nearly thousand Inferior Demons dealt with couldn’t count as additional rewards.
Handing the three eyes to the Blue Blood Chief, and letting him reluctantly retrieve a Fire Ant corpse for the Yong Demon to take, Lu Li proceeded to fulfill the third commission.
Arriving at the destination, the Yong Demon stopped to enjoy its food while Lu Li ventured into the depths alone.
Soon, what any Curse Title Master would consider a luxurious battle began.
The essence of a Curse Title is consumable, like an oil lamp that cannot have more kerosene added. When the oil lamp burns out, so does the life of the master. Thus, those who hold the oil lamp dare not frequently ignite it, fearing the depletion of kerosene.
But Lu Li was an exception.
Because the existence resolved with the consumption of humanity would feed back and provide even more humanity.
Therefore, neither powerful Mid-Level Demons nor Hell Creatures could resist the Curse Title, akin to the origin power of the world.
And hunting these hellish, hostile, and unintelligent beings posed no moral dilemma for Lu Li.
The third commission, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth.
When there were still two hours before Yuglas would fall asleep, only one of the seven commissions remained.
The Yong Demon carried Lu Li along the way to the final commission: a Parasitic Demon lurking in the eastern region of Beauty Lake Town, potentially threatening the town.
The form of the Parasitic Demon reminded Lu Li of an abhorrent body sewn by a gardener. A repugnant body, the size of a house, indeed posed a threat to the town.
However, nothing unexpected happened. The stitched body disappeared upon touching the halo, revealing the Parasitic Demon with a human-faced insect body curled in the head. It screeched and twisted, but it was so weak that it was killed with just the right hand.
Approximately 0.6 of humanity.
This was the Mid-Level Demon richest in souls that Lu Li had encountered. The Parasitic Demon had hunted many of its kind, as its stitched-together body attested.
The Yong Demon couldn’t carry the stitched body, so Lu Li had to leave the body for the Inferior Demons in the wild, taking the Parasitic Demon body and the completed last commission back to Beauty Lake Town.
The human-faced insect body and harvesting it were equally valuable: 50 souls.
The Blue Blood Chief regretfully said that if Lu Li had brought back a live Parasitic Demon, it would’ve been worth at least 200 souls.
"Is it a rare material?"
"No."
The Parasitic Demon is a luxury delicacy.
To the Advanced Demons, the slimy insect body that disgusts and repulses others is a rare delicacy. However, since Beauty Lake Town has long been out of contact with the outside world, not even a live Parasitic Demon could fetch such a price.
The commission ended. The Yong Demon gained residency in Beauty Lake Town and a Fire Ant corpse.
Saying farewell to the Yong Demon returning to the tavern, Lu Li and the Blue Blood Chief went to the Mayor’s mansion to receive additional rewards.
Eight portions of humanity, the humanity Lu Li plundered after resolving seven commissions.
The Blue Blood Chief, at this point, sluggishly noticed the change in Lu Li: "Your scent..."
"The Devil’s Curse," Lu Li replied without changing his words.
After all, most demons in their lifetime would never encounter the presence of a Devil’s Curse—it’s even rarer than the devil itself.
Ascending the steps to the highest point of Beauty Lake Town, Lu Li and the Blue Blood Chief arrived at the Mayor’s study, where the corpulent Mayor Burb was enjoying his bedtime dessert—a fresh Parasitic Demon.
The cleaned Parasitic Demon lay on a silver platter, a slender, maid-uniform-clad abstract demon standing beside it, cutting the insect body with a silver knife and scooping a jiggly, fat-like jellycake into Mayor Burb’s open mouth with a silver spoon.
Mayor Burb contentedly declined, reminding Lu Li of his fundamental difference from the Hell Creatures.
"Our great hero of Beauty Lake Town has returned."
Mayor Burb laughed, welcoming Lu Li, and gently clapped his hands. Another equally grotesque demon, also in a maid uniform, presented a silver tray with a silver box in front of Lu Li.
"This is the previously promised reward, brave human soul."
Lu Li opened the silver box, finding the soul orbs inside, glowing and resting quietly.
A total of 550 souls.
Just a few hours ago, Lu Li was troubled by the 1.3 souls debt to the tavern, but now, he had 550 portions.
Though these amounted to only the worth of about 50 Mid-Level Demons.
Closing the silver box, Lu Li temporarily put them into his pocket.
"The town’s problems are not completely resolved."
At this point, Lu Li suddenly stated calmly.
