Demon Prince's Forsaken Bride-Chapter 18: Ending the marriage
’’It’s true, My Lady,’’ Rosie said once the fourth prince left, ’’Yesterday, I told you that it was the fourth prince being unruly when you were woken up by the noises.’’
’’It really is him,’’ Lareina looked at the chair where Azrael had been sitting, ’’It was not an empty threat when he told me he would kill them all,’’ Warm tears trickled down her eyes.
’’My Lady, His Highness couldn’t have...’’
’’A guard doesn’t have the privilege to command a prince.’’
Lareina’s words were concise but Rosie understood what she was referring to.
She was suggesting that without Azrael’s orders, his guard would not approach the fourth prince, let alone drive him away. It seemed like a deliberate attempt to prevent Lareina from causing any trouble when her clansmen were alive and being tortured. Only after they were dead was she called up to witness their humiliation.
When Lareina walked back to her bedchamber, she spotted a familiar figure waiting outside.
Moira smiled and straightened up when she saw Lareina, ’’Initially, I was supposed to accompany His Highness but he was summoned by the Lord so I thought I should pay you a visit, My Lady,’’ she turned to Rosie, ’’You can be dismissed.’’
Rosie did not budge an inch from her spot.
Lareina tilted her head to the side and nodded at her and Rosie immediately walked away, leaving them alone.
Moira smiled wider, ’’It is a good thing you sent the maid away. It is not a comfortable feeling getting humiliated in front of the servants.’’
"You are here to humiliate me?"
’’As if your position is not humiliating enough already.’’
’’Compared to yours, no.’’
’’It seems like you are not as docile and well behaved as I had heard. You seem rather different from the rumors the more I get to know you,’’ Moira stroked her chin, "But I thought you had more pride than this. He murdered your clansmen and humiliated their corpses in front of you and you are still staying under his shelter.’’
Lareina did not say a word as she walked past the woman. She had just taken a step inside her bedchamber when Moira raised her voice.
’’You must love His Highness a lot, right? And you are doing this because you want him to love you back?"
Moira’s words hit her right where it hurt but her words were haughty when she said, ’’If I wanted him, he would not be with you.’’
"Is that true?"
Lareina stiffened.
Azrael covered the distance between them with a few huge strides and entered her room, closing the door behind him.
Moira frowned and bit her bottom lips. She had seen Azrael approaching and intentionally made Lareina utter words that would enrage him.
But instead of walking away, he even went into her room. Moira’s eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion.
Inside the room, as soon as the door closed, Azrael pinned Lareina to the wall and captured her lips in a rough kiss.
The taste of blood soon filled their mouth as she bit onto his lips but the man refused to release her.
As tears rolled down her cheeks, the man’s movements slowed. He broke the kiss and tilted her chin to make her look at him, ’’Say that again.’’
She glanced at him quietly.
’’You said that you don’t want me. Say that again!"
Lareina’s lips parted and her heart seemed to be trampled upon by the words that spilled her mouth, ’’End this marriage, please...’’
All the hopes she had held for this marriage and for a future with him seemed to crumble in front of her eyes.
The memories of the past were still vivid in her mind and she remembered all the events that led up to this day but what went wrong in between, she did not know.
When she, a human princess, was sent to the demon realm, the choice about who she would marry was not made. Her father did not even try to secure her a good husband based on his judgement.
Rightfully, she was supposed to marry the crown prince but a few days later, she was told that she would be marrying the second prince instead. Back then, the intentions of the human realm was yet to be revealed so she was treated well, in hopes of establishing peace in both the realms.
Unlike the customs of the humans, the wedding rituals of the demons took a comparatively short time. Still, it was no less complicated.
By the time they were over, Lareina had been tired. She just wanted to eat her fill and sleep. But a few demonesses, who were the maids, came and dressed her up. Seeing her cluelessness, they explained to her about marriage consummation, the duties of wife and other things before leading her to their Second Prince’s room.
When she had arrived there, Azrael was not around. The maids left after escorting her up till that place and she was left alone, all by herself. Initially, she sat still on the bed, waiting for Azrael patiently as she had been taught by the maids but as time passed by, the growling of her stomach became more and more persistent.
’’Perhaps he was also tired after the wedding so he dozed off somewhere else...’’ Just the thought boosted her morale and on time, her eyes had caught sight of the fruits placed on the table.
Without any hesitation, she got off the bed and brought the fruit basket closer to herself. The fruits in the demon realm were a little different, smaller, of different colors but they still smelled sweet and juicy and her stomach made some movements again. She sat up on the divan and started eating the fruits.
In no time, the basket in her hands was empty. The sound of a deep chuckle reverberated in the room when she was looking at the basket deeply, contemplating whether to say that a cat ate it or pretend as if she did not know where all the fruits were.
When she looked up, she spotted that big figure approaching her. When he had arrived, she did not know. Probably she had been busy eating or he was good at being stealthy.
