Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 184: You Just Keep Getting On My Nerves
Chapter 184: You Just Keep Getting On My Nerves
Thane stepped out of the elevator to the lobby, where Gilbert had been waiting with a piping hot cup of coffee. He mouthed a thank you as he took both his phone and coffee off his hands.
"Did anyone call while I was in the meeting?" Thane asked, scrolling through his call log.
Gilbert kept a straight face, "No, no one called in your absence." Changing the topic he asked, "How was the meeting? Did they like the idea you pitched?"
Thane nodded, "It went as planned." he replied sounding distant. It was clear as day where his thoughts were centered on.
Walking next to him, Gilbert asserted, "I think it’s best that we carry on, onto the next meeting." He peered at the call that failed to go through to Brooke and added swiftly, "I’m sure Mrs Grayson will give you a call once she’s off set." He assured Thane, while leading him towards the car parked outside.
"And that is a wrap!" The director yelled over his megaphone, signalling the end of rehearsal. He looked over his shoulder at Damien, who for some reason had stayed from start to end of the filming.
"I know a nice steak house not too far from here, let’s go out for some drinks tonight." The director offered, fully expecting Damien to shut down the offer.
Damien nodded calmly, then after some seconds he chimed, "But you’re driving."
The director blinked twice, "Ah, of course." He hadn’t expected Damien to agree to it. "Just give me a moment to speak to the cast, I’ll be with you shortly." He said, getting off his chair.
As soon as he left, Damien’s assistant came in, a worrisome look on her face. "Damien, I just got word from our informant, it seems that the Grayson heir has been meeting with some of your family’s business partners and investors."
Damien frowned, "What? Is the Grayson business expanding to this city?" He voiced out.
Nia shook her head, "Nothing has been confirmed yet, but from the looks of things that is what it would imply."
"But that doesn’t make any sense. Why would he be meeting with investors? The Grayson’s wealth is enough to start up a business here from scratch." Damien pinched his chin, trying to make sense of the situation.
"It could just be an experiment, and perhaps the family would not want to throw their money away on a test." She suggested, but Damien was not convinced.
"What about Ethan Halton? Does our informant know if the Grayson heir is meeting with any of his investors?" He asked.
"I’ll have them look into it at once." She said, then briskly walked out to make the call. Waiting on both the director and his assistant, he took a look around the set, his eyes searching for someone he didn’t know yet.
His gaze danced around until he noticed that someone was missing. "Where did that ham actor go?" He voiced out, his eyes scanning the area for Brooke.
Out of curiosity, he signalled a staff member over and asked, "Where did the second lead go?"
He responded, "Dylan left the set earlier, he said he had some urgent business-" He was saying but Damien cut him off sharply.
"The other one." he corrected.
It took a second for the cast member to connect the dots, after all what business had Damien with her whereabouts.
"Oh, you mean Brooke. She’s been allowed to go home early by the director. She left around the same time you went for lunch." He explained.
Damien inwardly hissed. ’She has some nerve going home early while the rest of the staff has to pick up after her mess.’ Damien couldn’t help but think.
"Show me to the rest area, I’m tired." Damien said, he figured that the director would spend a lot more time speaking with his staff, so he wanted somewhere quiet to rest his head.
"Of course, please this way."
Damien followed the staff member to the reserved building, which was free of the rest of the staff at the moment, considering everyone was busy packing up to go home. "You can rest in that room, it has a fridge and a bed." The staff informed him.
"Hey, once the director is finished come here and wake me up." Damien instructed.
He nodded, "Of course," then he left to finish packing up. Damien sighed as he stepped into the rest room, expecting to be the only one inside.
However, he was met with a surprise when he saw Brooke crouched by the window, her face buried in her knees. At first, Damien turned around to leave, wanting nothing to do with the woman who carried trouble wherever she went.
"Why should I leave? She’s the one intruding." He thought, convincing himself to turn around and confront the sleeping woman. He marched over to where Brooke sat, ready to snap at her for being lousy on set.
But upon closer inspection, he noticed the airpods she had plugged in, and then her phone laying next to her. He peered at the screen to see she had fallen asleep watching a video on how to block properly.
He crouched down beside her, "Hey, wake up, filming is done already." He whispered loudly while tapping Brooke on the shoulder, but she slept ever so soundly.
Damien tapped on the two hour video, pausing it, "Didn’t you hear me, you’ll hurt your back-" his words were cut off when Brooke’s head fell onto his shoulder.
"Hey-" he tried to raise his voice and scold her for daring to use his shoulder as a pillow. But his eyes gazed at her lashes, seeing her face up close he couldn’t help but admire how pretty her face was.
Even while tired and asleep, the woman was beautiful.
He then remembered what the staff member had previously told him.
-"Oh, you mean Brooke. She’s been allowed to go home early by the director. She left around the same time you went for lunch."
Damien relaxed his body from a crouching posture into fully sitting on the floor next to her. He gazed down at the sleeping woman and let out a sigh. His mind flashed back to the expression on Brooke’s face earlier when she collided into him.
"This woman, you just keep getting on my nerves..." He muttered under his breath.
