Chapter 128: Night To The Audition

Flashback

*Night To The Audition*

"I already told you! I’m going to get the part!" Cassie whined, tugging on the script Brooke had been studying prior to her arrival.

Pulling back, Brooke retorted sharply, "In your dreams Cassie, you can’t act to save your life!"

Cassie gritted her teeth, "Can too! Ugh! You’re too ugly to be on TV anyway! So let go!" She fought back.

"Stop! It’s gonna rip-"

"Then let go!" Cassie shouted.

A grin painted Brooke’s lips, "If you say so." She said then abruptly released the script, letting Cassie fall miserably on her behind, with the script in hand.

Tears gathered in her, "Y-You pushed me!" She cried aloud, drawing the attention of the maids.

Brooke frowned, "I didn’t!"

Cassie intensified her crying, "Mommy! Daddy! Help me!"

Brooke was convicted that Cassie hadn’t even fallen that hard. She sighed and went over to her, she stretched her hand forward, "Here, get up."

Cassie stared at Brooke’s offer, she gently reached out, but stopped herself when she saw her father coming. Immediately, she tossed herself to the ground, and continued her wailing.

"Daddy! Save me! She hit me! The witch hit me!"

In a flash, Luther came running to his daughter, he shoved Brooke aside and held Cassie in his arms, his eyes carefully examining her for any wounds.

"What did you do?!" Luther yelled at Brooke, startling her.

"F-Father I didn’t-"

"Who the hell are you calling your father? You bastard!" He hissed, hugging Cassie to his chest.

Brooke’s eyes watered, "I didn’t push her, she fell-"

"Excuses! I thought I warned you never to harm my little girl, you stupid brat! Come here!" He reached for her by the hair and yanked hard on it.

"Ah! Stop it! Please!" Brooke pleaded, her cries making even the maids want to step in and do something.

Fortunately, Serena emerged from the kitchen, and stood in-between them both. Brooke carefully hid behind her mother, clutching onto her skirt.

It hadn’t been very long since she started living with Luther and the sister she never knew she had. And every day had been hellish, especially with her new father who didn’t care for her well-being.

"Serena! I warned you not to bring that girl into the house! You should’ve left her with your sister!" He raged, pointing furiously at Brooke.

His anger was so violent, it frightened Cassie who he held in his arms, into covering her ears and closing her eyes.

"I’m sorry for what this stupid daughter of mine must’ve done-"

"I can’t forgive her! She’s crossed a line! How dare she hit Cassie before her audition tomorrow?! Just how jealous can be get?!" He spat out.

Serena looked over her shoulder at Brooke, her eyes asking to know what happened. Brooke slowly shook her head from side to side, telling her mother she hadn’t done half of what she was being accused of.

Of course, Serena knew that much. Brooke had a bit of spunk to her, but she wasn’t the kind to go causing trouble.

Whereas her other daughter Cassie was a spiteful little girl. Although spoiled, she felt that Cassie would eventually warm up to her little sister, but that sadly never happened.

Serena crocuhed down and held Brooke by the shoulders, her face contorted into a frown. "Hey! Brooke, you’re older aren’t you?" She tugged on her ear, making Brooke wince in pain.

"Haven’t I told you to act more responsibly?! Apologize to Cassie!" She ordered, raising her voice.

"Mom! It hurts!"

"Of course it does! Now apologize, or I’ll make your punishment even worse! Do it now!" Serena yelled, tugging harder on her skin until it turned pink.

Brooke’s lips quivered, "But I didn’t-" the pain from her ear shut her up. She looked at her mother’s angry eyes and knew she had to do as she was told. She nodded, "I’ll do it." She said, her voice shaky and about to cry.

"Good." Serena took her hands off her and stepped aside for Brooke to apologize.

Luther clicked his tongue as he watched Brooke give a ’half-assed’ apology to his daughter.

"Cassie, I’m sorry for hurting you." Brooke apologized.

Cassie peeked her head out of her father’s shoulders. She stared at her crying sister, and instead of feeling empathy for her, she felt her ego inflate.

She was capable of making this witch cry and say sorry?

With just a little tantrum?

Cassie grinned from ear to ear, she stretched her hand out and smacked Brooke’s face. "Humph! Now we’re even!"

Brooke nearly raised her hand to smack Cassie back, but Luther carried his daughter in his arms and took her out to buy some ice cream. On his way out, he said to Serena, "Feed her the leftovers, tonight."

"B-But honey-"

"Just do it." He ordered harshly, "Or I’ll make an example out of you too."

Caving in, Serena said, "Yes, honey."

That night, after Luther had tucked his daughter into bed, he tried to convince Serena to have Brooke drop out of the audition.

"I don’t want her auditioning! Cassie is already going for the role!" He raised his voice.

Serena stopped folding the laundry, "I know but...but Brooke refused to back down when I asked her to. If the organizers hadn’t scouted her personally, we would’ve been able to shop her."

In a calmer tone, Serena said, "And who knows? If she gets it, Brooke could become famous and reel in good money to the family-"

Luther angrily slapped the laundry basket away, "And what about our daughter?! Or do you care so much about that wretched first husband of yours?!"

Serena forced a smile, she was still getting used to Luther’s violent side. He hadn’t shown her this side when they met, he was the perfect gentleman, he was kind enough to make her cheat on her first husband and have Cassie.

"What? No. I don’t even know if that loser is really dead or alive. I cut off all ties with that worthless man when I met you." she insisted, hugging him from behind.

"But Brooke is also my kid, and even though she’s a pain, I owe the girl something. Let’s just give her this audition, besides Cassie didn’t care about it, until this morning when she found out. Alright, honey?" She said, kissing the back of Luther’s neck to pacify him.

But Luther was not convinced, he was not ready to have the daughter of that man take something away from his daughter.

He balled his fists, ’That girl will suffer for hitting my Cassie.’ he gritted his teeth, his eyes pointed at the medicine bag sitting on his drawer...
