Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 126: Suspicions Confirmed
Chapter 126: Suspicions Confirmed
Sophia grinned from ear to ear, she was certain that Thane’s bride would be easy to manipulate.
She had made her investigation about Brooke beforehand and learned that she had a sister, who was an actress, and a step father who owned a talent agency. In comparison to the Grayson family’s wealth, her family was as insignificant as the sand under her shoes.
If she was smart, she would choose to curry favor with her.
Brooke inhaled sharply, before answering. "Sorry, but I’m not interested in any of that. I came here with my husband, and I’m not planning to stay." She voiced out.
Sophia laughed, "Why? So you can film your mediocre film?" She asked.
Brooke tensed up. This woman had made investigations about her, and it made her feel uneasy.
"With or without the filming, I don’t plan to live in a place where I’m treated like trash." She had endured that all her lifestyle and wasn’t ready to go through it again.
Sophia’s features contorted into a frown. "You’re not thinking of going against the family, are you? Against my authority?" She thought to pressurize Brooke, but just before Brooke could respond, a noise was heard outside.
Crack
Smash
Wendy and May exchanged quick glances, wondering what was behind the noise.
"What is that?" Sophia demanded.
"I’ll go take a look, madam." Wendy said, as she made for the door.
Unfortunately, before she got to the door, Cressida pushed it open and barged in, followed strictly by two nurses.
"Madam Cressida! Please calm down, you could hurt yourself!" The staff yelped, trying to restrain her.
Brooke frowned at the woman, she recognized her from the dining table, she was the quiet woman who didn’t say a word the entire time.
It was almost as if she was a ghost.
The ’quiet’ woman suddenly charged at Sophia and grabbed her by the collar, forcing her into standing up.
"You damned bitch! I warned you all not to put that shit in me!" She cursed, not caring if she harmed the old woman.
"Cressida calm down-"
"You fucking bitch!" She tightened her grip on her mother’s fabric, "I swear I’m going to end you-"
Right in the middle of their squabble, a nurse from behind pulled out a syringe from behind her and gently approached her.
Brooke raised her voice, "What are you doing?" Her voice startled Cressida into releasing her mother and looking over her shoulder, tight in time to dodge the attack.
Smack!
Cressida smacked the syringe out of her hand, and stepped over it, crushing it completely. She raised her hand and cracked a slap on her face!
"I really have had it with you people! You’re all crazy!" She raged, making the maids shrink back in fear.
"The only one acting crazy here is you! That’s why you have to take your medicine-"
"Those drugs are going to kill me! I hate them!" She ran her fingers through her hair.
Brooke could see the stress lines forming on her face, she parted her lips to speak, but Wendy and May grabbed her by the elbows, holding her back.
"Quickly! Give her the medicine!" She spat out.
The nurses nodded and Quickly prepared another syringe. They approached a resisting Cressida and tried to inject her, but Brooke wheeled over to the nurses, crashing into them and knocking the syringe out of their hands.
"What the hell do you think you’re doing?!" Sophia demanded in a loud voice.
Brooke wheeled herself in front of Cressida and stretched her arms out, blocking the maids and nurses.
"I don’t know what’s going on here, but she definitely doesn’t want this and this isn’t the way to administer medicine." Brooke scolded. She reached for Cressida’s hand and held it in hers, in a bid to calm her down.
"Oh? Are you going to teach me how to raise my daughter? You insolent wench!" She turned to the maids, "Go help Cressida-"
"Anyone who comes near here is making an enemy out of me, and my husband." She hardened her voice, staring down Sophia.
The old woman scoffed, "Do you think I’m afraid of your baseless threats?"
Brooke kept her features strict, "Try me and see if I don’t tell my husband." She threatened, refusing to back down.
Sophia looked at her, waiting for the little bitch to back down, but she wasn’t giving up. She shrugged her shoulders, and then sat back down, feigning composure.
"Get out of my room! All of you! Now!" She spat out, her face flushed with anger.
Brooke led Cressida out of the room, hand in hand, very much aware that she had done something that would cause her problems, but she wasn’t afraid.
She had Thane, and he was more than enough for her.
*********
Maverick stared intently at the medical reports belonging to his cousin from the duration of the past eight months. He squinted his eyes at the reports and pinched his chin.
"Well, this is odd-" his words were cut short by a sudden knock on the door.
He clicked the results away and turned his attention to the door. Come in." He announced, sinking into his chair.
The door slightly opened, and ij came his aunt, Rosalind, who looked like she had been crying her eyes out.
"Aunt, you’re looking as beautiful as ever." Maverick greeted, getting up to hug her.
"How’s my son’s condition? The doctors won’t tell me anything." Rosalind cried out.
"That’s because I asked them not to say anything to you, the last thing I’d want was for you to worry sick over him."
"So it’s bad?" She gasped.
Maverick led her to a seat, and offered her a glass of water. "It must’ve been tasking coming here, I’m sure grandfather and grandmother wouldn’t approve."
Rosalind scoffed, "I don’t care about any of that. I had to come see my son! Tell me, how bad is it?"
Maverick got on one knee next to her and held her by the hand, "I don’t know what to say-"
"I want the truth."
Maverick nodded, rubbing his thumb gently across the back of her palm.
In a calm tone he said, "His system is actively rejecting the treatment, and with every passing second his health is deteriorating." He confessed.
She gasped and covered her mouth, tears streamed down her face, "It’s just like before-"
"No aunt, this is much worse than back then. As it stands, I can’t guarantee anything right now."
Rosalind stuttered, "W-What does that mean? Hey, Maverick you’re scaring me." Her hands turned cold, and her insides tightened.
Maverick got up and rubbed her back, "Aunt, I think that you should prepare yourself for the worse. His condition is far worse than we’ve ever seen." He told her, not pulling back any stops.
The more he spoke, the more Rosalind’s heart raced, she pictured her son when he was younger, gasping for air, his skin pale and his lips painted with the blood he coughed up. She covered her ears, imagining his shrieks of pain, from not being able to breathe. The hairs on her body stood, and goosebumps splattered all across her body, she felt nauseous and nearly fainted on her seat.
"Maverick, please do something! I can’t lose him!" She begged.
Maverick smiled, "I’ll do my best, but I can’t promise anything." He said, bluntly.
They spoke for a while, before he sent her out of the hospital room, under the guise of having too much work.
After he returned from escorting her to her car, he met his consulting specialist, Doc Anders, who had come all the way on his request, after Thane had been hospitalized. He payed for her flight ticket and even had her come in secret, to discuss something with her.
"Doc, I’m glad you could make it." He greeted, stretching his hand out to hers.
She shook his hand and replied, "Likewise, I was stunned when you called and asked for me. I’m honored to be here with these many talents." She said.
Cutting straight to the chase maverick said, "I believe that you were the doctor that attended to my cousin when he arrived at that country. I believe you brought the documents I asked for."
She nodded, "Yes, I did bring the medical reports. Actually, I was shocked to hear that Master Grayson’s health had deteriorated so poorly in such a short span of time."
"Actually, that’s what I wanted to discuss. Please, the reports." He stretched his hand out, his eyes pointed at the envelope in her hand.
She quickly passed it to him, "Is there something you need to see?" She asked as he flipped through the pages of her reports.
"Well, color me intrigued." He muttered under his breath staring at a page in the reports.
"What? What is it?" She asked, pensively.
Maverick closed the reports and laughed in a tone that lacked any humour. "It seems my suspicions were right all along." He confessed.
"Suspicion? What suspicion?" Doc Anders asked.
"That this deterioration was nothing natural." He narrowed his eyes.
"Someone laced something lethal into his system..."
