Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Why Did You Hide It from Me?

Natalie Kendall’s expression was indifferent, her tone devoid of any warmth: "Why did you hide it from me?"

At that moment, Isaac Vaughn’s tongue seemed tied, frozen solid.

He couldn’t utter a single word, not even a character.

His heart felt as if it was being clenched by a hand, squeezing tightly until it was about to burst.

He didn’t dare face whatever reaction Natalie might have next.

Anger, fury, disappointment, tears...

He was willing to pay any price to make sure she hadn’t seen that document, that damned document!

Isaac opened his mouth but could not make any sound.

Natalie took two steps closer, looking at him: "Why aren’t you speaking?"

Isaac used all his strength, and in the end, could only utter three hoarse words: "I’m sorry."

"Sorry for what?" Natalie continued to step forward, standing firmly in front of him, "You just—"

"Like me that much?"

Isaac was stunned.

He looked at her in confusion.

Natalie held up the document, "So my grandfather offered you such a high position, why didn’t you sign this appointment letter back then?"

"All I can offer you is the position of vice president."

With that, she reached out and hugged Isaac’s slender waist, her face pressed against his heart.

"Isaac Vaughn, you’re doomed."

She tilted her face up to look at him, her deer-like eyes hiding a bit of pride: "Second Young Master Vaughn is head over heels in love, is this even okay?"

Isaac reached out to take the document from her hand.

He opened it to look.

Sure enough, it was the appointment letter given to him by Old Mr. Beckett back then.

The reason he didn’t sign it—

Was because he had gained even greater benefits from Old Mr. Beckett than this.

He had renegotiated a new agreement with Old Mr. Beckett.

From hell to heaven.

Dead and alive again.

In a matter of minutes, Isaac deeply understood.

He felt emptied, his head leaning on Natalie’s shoulder, completely drained.

His heart slowly began to return to its normal rhythm.

"It seems I have the same good eye as my grandfather."

Isaac heard her boast, chuckling softly.

But suddenly his eyes darkened.

Where did the real agreement with Old Mr. Beckett go?

Who took it?

Natalie stepped back from his embrace, "Will you regret it?"

Isaac gently flicked her nose, "Regret about what?"

Natalie held his hand, seriously promising him: "Give me some time, I will definitely give you lots and lots in the future."

"What will you give me lots of?" Isaac asked, amused.

Natalie replied earnestly: "Lots and lots of money?"

Isaac burst into laughter, only to hear her add: "Lots and lots of love."

He was taken aback.

His heart ached with swelling.

Sweet but also tinged with bitterness.

He knew it was like sugar-coated glass shards.

Eating it might cut his throat, sting his gut.

But so what?

He would still eat it.

He lowered his head to kiss Natalie.

Swallowing the sweetness wrapped in glass shards.

——

The next day, Natalie and Nina Abbott planned to have a meal together.

During the meal, Nina asked if Natalie wasn’t planning to continue her studies.

She hadn’t graduated from university yet.

Studying was definitely something she planned to do.

Natalie intended to find an opportunity to return to campus after a while.

"Are you going back to Seaharbor University?"

Natalie shook her head: "I should find a school in Janton."

"Makes sense. You’re managing such a big company now, it must be convenient to stay in Janton. It would be exhausting to keep traveling back and forth."

"Yeah."

"But it’s really nice that you can stay in the country. Earlier, when you wanted to go abroad, I was quite upset. After all, it’s really tough to maintain overseas friendships."

"Go abroad?" Natalie was slightly surprised, "I was planning to go abroad before."

"Yes, at that time, you suddenly wanted to go abroad. I was also shocked when I found out, especially since you never mentioned any plans of going abroad before."

"And back then, Isaac didn’t even know about your plans to go abroad. Nat, were you two arguing at that time? It was such a big deal, and you didn’t even tell him."

Natalie was stunned for a moment and vaguely replied: "Yeah."

"I remember the time before you were going abroad, you said Isaac wasn’t sincere to you, and that you both had no future. So, it was a fight after all. No wonder you said that."

Nina’s words suddenly reminded Natalie of the divorce agreement.

Things didn’t seem as simple as Isaac had said.

At least, it wouldn’t have been merely an argument.

Otherwise, why would she be talking about both a divorce and going abroad?

What exactly was Isaac hiding from her?

"So, are you and Isaac okay now?"

Natalie returned to her senses and looked at Nina.

"Yeah, we’re okay."

But inside, she couldn’t shake off a shadow of doubt.

——

After finishing their meal, the two decided to hit another spot.

Natalie hadn’t relaxed properly in a long time.

Since taking over Beckett Group, she’s been tightly strung, studying materials every day after work.

Bar.

The two had just taken a seat in a booth when some men approached.

The one leading the group, Natalie recognized.

Leo Taylor.

Frederick Whitman’s nephew.

"Well, what a coincidence."

Leo sat directly on the other side of Natalie, leaning towards her.

"What are you doing!"

Nina furrowed her brows, pulling Natalie towards her. "Get lost! Or I’ll call security!"

"Shut up!" Leo yelled at Nina, then reached out to hook Natalie’s shoulder, speaking mockingly:

"Miss Kendall, if my uncle offended you in any way, just say it. Hiring thugs to beat people up, what does that accomplish?"

"Is it because we’re unfamiliar with Janton? Miss Kendall, you aren’t being very nice."

Natalie understood.

Leo wanted to stand up for his uncle.

She coldly pushed away Leo’s hand, not wanting to waste words with him: "Get lost."

Leo’s expression instantly faltered.

He thought, bringing people with him, that Natalie was just a young girl.

Was this lineup not enough to intimidate her?

Then he’d take the opportunity to pressure her, make her drink a few glasses, and apologize.

He didn’t expect her to be this tough.

"Oh, look at how feisty you are."

One of the men with Leo said, "Damn! Needs some lessons!"

"Tsk." Leo pretended, "How can you talk to Miss Kendall like that? Miss Kendall, my friend is just a rough guy, no offense."

"How about this, let’s have a drink together. Apologize nicely, and I’ll accept it on behalf of my uncle. Let’s move past this, how’s that?"

As Leo spoke, he poured two glasses of wine, one of them filled almost to the brim.

He thrust it towards Natalie, the wine spilling onto her leg.

"You!" Nina anxiously tried to protect Natalie.

But Natalie quickly held her hand down.

She reached out and took the glass from Leo’s hand. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

In Leo’s expectant gaze, she splashed the entire glass of wine onto his face.

"Damn!"

Leo cursed loudly.

Natalie pulled Nina up, "Let’s go."

"Where do you think you’re going!"

Leo wiped his face, the smell of wine filling his nose. He reached out to hold Natalie’s shoulder.

With a cold face, Natalie grabbed a bottle of wine from the table and smashed it without hesitation onto Leo’s head.

This scene felt familiar.

Having witnessed Natalie smash Scott Quinn before, Nina inhaled sharply.
