Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 270
With the monsters destroying dungeons whenever they find one, the chances of finding a dungeon in the wild were too small, but Aaron, who was blessed by luck, didn’t want to give up and settle for the slow-paced paper job.
For him, the desk job was more difficult than the fact that there was almost no chance of finding a dungeon in the wild.
So, he continued to go out to hunt to fulfil the quota and search for dungeons.
---
"Huh, is that a dungeon? Since when did a dungeon exist here?" Aaron wondered as he looked at the dungeon portal.
After searching for days, Aaron finally found a dungeon. When he first saw that, he was surprised, because the area where it was was so deep into the wild, where monsters roam in larger numbers.
Aaron, who had no idea that the monsters were destroying dungeons closer to human lands, ignored the dungeons in their own lands.
There was a reason behind that move.
They wanted to train their own descendants like how humans do.
The monsters observed that they can procreate in huge numbers when they are lower-ranked ones, but when they reach higher ranks, the rate decreases, but the descendants tend to be more intelligent than usual.
Many monster descendants of Rank-7 and above became intelligent enough to access the status panel by Rank-5 or 6.
It means almost two ranks before they did as their ancestors did.
Sure, not all monster descendants were able to do that, but every monster could do so after reaching Rank-7. That remained constant.
At first, they didn’t understand the situation, but after observing the humans for a while, they understood.
These monsters that could access the status panel were geniuses.
In human society, geniuses tend to occur more if the couple that gave birth were powerful. Though it was not 100% guaranteed, the chances were still high.
Even if there were no geniuses, there would still be improvement among the offspring. Some aspects would be greater when compared to other children their age.
The monsters quickly came to understand that the monsters that were able to use the Status Panel are geniuses among monsters.
Though they were happy with this discovery, there remained two issues.
How to differentiate the geniuses and how to develop them in a faster way?
They got partial answers for the issue from the humans as well.
Humans usually decide that anyone who is strong among a generation is a genius, but that wouldn’t work among monsters, who could have many factors that could change everything in deciding a genius.
Instead of that, they decided to train all the offspring of the Rank-7 and above monsters. Depending on when they were able to open their status, they would be decided as a genius or not.
If they open the status panel before Rank-7, then more resources would be invested in them.
It was then that the main issue appeared. How to train all those monsters?
They can’t just go out and hunt in the wild. It was then that they learned the use of dungeons from observing humans.
Like humans, they started to send their young into the dungeons to improve their combat prowess, but they discovered that they improved when fighting inside, even though they didn’t eat anything or breathe in the mana that they needed to improve themselves.
The problem was that the young monsters had no idea how to use the dungeons, and if a Rank-7 or higher accompanied them, the dungeon took them as a group, and the growth was very low, but they didn’t know that fact.
They only saw growth and didn’t bother much about that.
As the growth was low, they needed time to become as powerful as humans, without needing the help of sea monsters.
So, they decided to slow down the growth of humans by destroying any dungeons that were near human lands in the forests.
Aaron went deep into the forest, which was something the monsters didn’t take into account.
He finally found a dungeon in the wild, but the problem was unlike the previous dungeons, where he had a guide to know what was inside, this one didn’t.
Dungeons don’t come with guides.
Only through exploration can one know what was inside the dungeon.
How many floors does the dungeon have, or what monsters does the dungeon have, and their power levels? Everything has to be explored first.
The dungeons in the academy or the ones controlled by organisations are wild dungeons that are explored first by someone belonging to that organisation, while in the wild. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Once they conquer the dungeon, they will have the right to transfer the dungeon from place to place. This exploration team would provide full descriptions of the dungeon.
How many levels are there?
What are the monsters present in the dungeon and their power levels?
Whether there is a Boss Monster or not.
Everything was provided by those teams, which were later enjoyed by people like Aaron, who came later on. If not for the efforts of people like that, geniuses like Aaron wouldn’t have an easy time improving themselves, as they had to do everything on their own, and it would take a long time.
Exploring new dungeons is not just time-consuming but also dangerous.
"I have no idea whether this dungeon can fulfil the quest conditions or not. Even if the monsters are at the required level, until I reach the Boss Monster, I can’t say whether this is the dungeon required".
"There is a chance that this dungeon has no Boss Monster", Aaron muttered as he thought whether he should enter the dungeon or not.
Not every dungeon has a Boss Monster. This was why the quest for promotion became rather difficult to complete, not because the professionals are incompetent.
Now that he has a dungeon in front of him, if not for the fact that it takes too much time, he would have already dived into it.
With his undead army, he can complete it quickly, but still, if the levels are too much, he may have to return using the same path he took. It would be a waste of time.
"Well, it’s not like I can do something important anyway", Aaron decided to explore the dungeon.
His duty here at the fort was to act when there was a danger to the fort, and as long as he could fulfil the monthly hunting quota, he could do whatever he wanted to do.
Normally, he would submit some monsters daily, to not attract attention, even if he had hunted the required quota down in a single day.
Now, with the dungeon, a few days might be out. He would submit the quota on a single day, which could attract some attention, but it was a necessary trade-off.
That attention would only be temporary as they would soon know that he submitted the quota for the days that he missed, at the same time.
They might wonder what he was doing out in the dangerous territory at night, but they would forget about what he was doing soon, as long as they didn’t get any clues, which Aaron would make sure of.
"I hope this dungeon meets the criteria for my rank advancement", he prayed and entered the dungeon.
