Chapter 269: Chapter 269

The status panel among the monsters was a secret that they kept for years. They made sure that the humans would never know about this secret, no matter what.

The secret almost spilled when a profession called as Beast Tamer appeared.

Beast Tamers can tame beasts or monsters, but what they could tame was something lower than themselves or something that was the same rank as them.

While fighting beast tamers, it would be like fighting multiple people, and if the tamer learns some skills or weapon arts outside his profession, then the difficulty in dealing with such a person would only increase.

It was similar to Necromancer and other Death Professionals who can summon undead monsters.

These professionals are not single individuals; they are armies.

Though they may be weak at the lower ranks, as they grow, their strength will grow with their growing army.

The only downside with being a Beast Tamer was that it takes too much time to increase their levels.

This was because, unlike necromancers or other death professionals who command the dead, Tamers command living beings, which requires levelling similar to theirs.

It means they have to gain the EXP required by the total number of beasts under them, including themselves, to raise a level. This delays their growth rate by a lot, which would make them stop after reaching a certain rank, like Rank-4 or Rank-5.

At that rank, they would be almost unbeatable. Even the lower end of Rank-7 would not provoke them. Even if the Rank-7 wins, they wouldn’t be able to win without paying a steep price.

So at those stages, after gaining a few hundred years to live, they would settle down and concentrate on their families by earning instead of improving their EXP and level.

So, the high-ranking monsters didn’t feel much danger than usual, but that changed when a talented Beast Tamer appeared.

This Tamer was able to reach Rank-6 before he reached 30, which was considered average for other professionals who only need to increase their own level, but for a beast tamer like him, who has thousands of beasts under him, that was like reaching heaven.

When monsters learned about the fact, a monster tide appeared at the city where the tamer lived. Many died.

Even the Tamer died, because he had a family there. Only after the tamer died did the tide recede.

Some may see this as evil, but monsters, too, have the right to live. Humans kill monsters for not just survival, but also a better life and what the monsters did was nothing different.

They knew that once the humans find out about the fact that monsters, too, can access the status panel once they reach Rank-7, they would make sure that no monster above Rank-7 exists, unless under their control, such is the nature.

To protect their kind, when it was discovered that the Beast Tamer was about to reach Rank-7, they made sure that he died.

After that, as long as any Beast Tamer who showed talent died. They didn’t kill every beast tamer, only the talented ones, to make sure that the humans didn’t figure out what they were doing.

The monsters that are tamed by the tamers do everything that their tamer says, and everything about the tamed beasts can’t stay hidden from their tamers.

As soon as their tamed beast reached Rank-7, the tamer would know that the monsters could use the status panel, and the world would soon know.

Sure, there is a small chance that the tamer might hide that for a while, until they get strong, and then the secret would be out.

If they have a strong background, then the information about the monsters and the Status panel could come sooner.

Once it was discovered, that could be the end of any free Rank-7 monster.

As of now, the humans are acting as if the monsters would just grow intelligent once they reach Rank-7. If they find out about the fact that the monsters can do things similar to what humans can do, humans wouldn’t allow that.

They don’t see monsters as competition, just as a source of resources. Once competition arises, maybe even the cults would join to eradicate the top-ranking monsters.

So, except for making moves when needed to keep their secrets, things were quite natural flowing everywhere, but that changed a few months ago.

When they first received the news about the upgrade, they started to prepare to seize resources before humans could, but they didn’t expect that it would happen too quickly.

Though it was subtle at start, they saw that the world was upgrading.

So, they started a war to keep their forces from growing too strong, and Cults were already waging war. The monsters believed that with internal turmoil, they couldn’t focus too much on them, but they made sure that the humans would not pose too much of a threat to them when that internal turmoil ended.

So, they made use of that turmoil and started to inflict a lot of damage.

Their first attack led to the destruction of the Last Bastion fort, which made the leading monsters a bit complacent, which ended their lives when someone powerful than them arrived at the scene later.

Though they lost the occupied land, they accomplished something that they wanted to, the destruction of the dungeons.

When the fort fell, the dungeons where the soldiers were trained also collapsed.

The monsters knew that the humans had to spend a lot of resources to bring new dungeons to the fort again. If they don’t, then the strength of the soldiers won’t increase much.

It was more than enough for the monsters.

Also, to make sure that they don’t find any dungeons nearby, they regularly dispatched high-ranking monsters with limited intelligence to destroy the dungeons whenever they find one.

The soldiers who would go out to hunt and look for any new dungeons wouldn’t find any, and others who are far away are busy themselves looking out for new dungeons to conquer and transport to the fort.

It was why Aaron and everyone here had to go out to improve their levels. If not for Aaron’s talent, he wouldn’t have reached such a level so quickly.

It was also the reason why Aaron was unable to find a dungeon that fit the criteria. If not, someone or even he who went into deep parts of the wild would have stumbled upon one by now, but no one did.

If a dungeon sprouts, the monsters would make sure that they were gone within minutes. Unless the monsters miss one, the chances of finding a dungeon here are very low.
