Chapter 268: Chapter 268

Aaron thought for a while, but he couldn’t think of anything that would enable him to return to the academy. In the academy, there is a dungeon that he could use to complete his Rank-5 quest.

The quest that he got for reaching Rank-5 was as follows.

--

Rank-5 Quest: Clear a complete dungeon before defeating the Dungeon Boss.

Dungeon Requirements: All of the monsters in the dungeon should be higher than level 1000, and the boss should be at least level 1200. In addition to those, the boss needs to be an undead being.

Note: Whether other monsters were undead or not, it doesn’t matter.

--

The dungeon in the academy was a bit higher than the required level, but it wouldn’t matter as long as the minimum range was qualified.

If there was a minimum level of monster was required, even if that is a rank above, the quest would be fulfilled. There are no such maximum restrictions, but the quest needed to be completed alone. If someone helps, then it won’t be counted as completion of the quest, no matter the level of the monster cleared.

The quest would remain as it was, and the professional would remain at the same level and rank as before, no matter how many monsters they kill.

Aaron was at the same point, where he could only make the best use of his time only by completing his quest. If not, he would be staying at that rank for a long time.

When one is at the max level, they would save the EXP that they gain before their rank advances, and it was good for many, as they can’t just advance the moment the quest appears. It could take time, and in that time, killing monsters was not a waste, as there would be no loss of EXP.

There are many who would not be confident enough to complete their missions and would try to improve their reflexes by hunting monsters, or there are some who wouldn’t be able to complete their quest on their first try.

There would be multiple attempts. Even if they fail to complete the quest, most likely because the time is not enough. It means that if the EXP gained from whatever monsters they killed can’t be stored, then it would just be a waste of time and resources.

Luckily, the system was fair enough to store EXP gained even after they reached the level max of the rank, and it would be used when one passes the rank quest.

The issue was that there is a limit to that. At every rank limit, this storage limit increases, but once the EXP gained reaches that limit, there would be no extra EXP stored. Anything earned beyond that point would be a waste.

It was what all the professionals who were stopped at their rank’s max level. With no levels to gain, no matter what they hunt, the EXP gained would be a waste.

So, these people would usually go to only the Loot Dungeons or hunt outside monsters, where they can get some loot which can be sold or used depending on what they gained. These people are ones who gave up improving themselves and settled down with a family or a slow life.

"I don’t intend to stop at peak Rank-4. I aim to cross the border that many Death Professionals fail to do so. It means I have to find a way to overcome this issue without depending on the Vice-Headmistress. She can’t be helpful everywhere, and if I become too dependent on her, I can’t cross the boundary that stopped all the Death Professionals from reaching Rank-7".

"I hope that the 100 points in Luck help me find a dungeon that fits the requirement for my Rank-5 quest, and that too as quickly as possible. Lately, ever since the team left the fort, I am feeling something bad is going to happen, especially in the last few days", Aaron muttered to himself.

Aaron originally thought to join the paper squad, but decided against that.

In the wild near the fort, there are no dungeons for some reason. The popular theory was that the monsters destroy them on purpose when they spot one. This was to decrease the growth rate of humans.

Monsters don’t need to kill other monsters to improve themselves, but hunting and eating them is the fastest way to improve, other than taking some natural resources.

Humans, on the other hand, improve themselves mainly by killing and gaining EXP, which is why Experience Dungeons play an important role in improving the average of the human society.

The growth rate because of those dungeons has increased among humans. If not for the cults and other criminal elements, who kill other humans either due to envy or greed, there would still balance with the monsters.

If not, humans could have enough strength to erase the monsters, at least the ones on land. This was something many at the higher level know and understand, but greed and envy are unavoidable.

This kept the humans destabilised for a long time, but that was before the monsters found out that the world is upgrading.

What the humans didn’t know was that, like humans, monsters also have a status panel, but that doesn’t show until they reach Rank-7.

It’s not like it won’t show, but the monsters don’t have enough intelligence to know how to access it. As they rank up, they would slowly gain intelligence, but only after reaching Rank-7 would the monster be intelligent enough to understand what’s actually happening in the world.

After reaching Rank-7, many would be even more intelligent than humans.

Hidden deep in the wild, they built their own cities and started to operate similarly to humans, but unlike a world with satellite coverage, which can be used to scan the entire world, the human society has no such power.

Even the Human Gods have no such power to scan the entire world, as scanning would leave a trace. Non-intelligent or low-ranking creatures might not detect the scan energy, but the higher ones do.

Once they sense a scan, it could lead to war. So, the wilds were never scanned. The only area that would be scanned would be around themselves, nothing more.

With no one encroaching on their true homes, they were developing well. A few centuries later, they would surely be on par with the humans that has no internal conflicts and every talent grows into a powerful being as per their potential.

The world’s upgradation shattered that dream.

How did they know?

It was because they, too, could improve their skills with Skill Points (SPs), which they gain as they increase in strength, similar to humans.

Some of those who reached the Uncommon Grade are the Monsters.
