Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 250
Chapter 250: Chapter 250
A month later...
"Nothing, there was absolutely nothing here", Aaron muttered as he closed the last book on the undead beings.
After returning to the academy, except for a brief time where he explained to Lyanna everything that happened at Duskmist City, of course, omitting certain details, he was fully enclosed in the library, from morning till evening.
Though he was busy, he didn’t ignore Zara, as he had dedicated a few nights for the past month fully to her. Even though finding out about the skeleton king was important, living his life in the present was much more important.
Though he was in research mode, he didn’t ignore his girls or his family.
Zara was lucky enough to have stayed behind and was able to spend a lot of time with him, while Erika could only chat with him when possible. She was busy with many things.
The attack on Duskmist City alerted the alliance, and security has increased in every settlement. Though one might think that it increased safety, they are wrong. It increased workload on the security forces, which means they would have less time to destress, and that means they would tend to make mistakes in their duty.
Mistakes that could cost even more lives, but with constant threats, there was nothing the higher-ups could do. If the security was reduced, that would give a chance for what happened at Duskmist City to repeat elsewhere.
At that time, they were lucky because of the presence of Aaron.
They didn’t know that the summoning was a success there, and if not for Aaron, the city would have collapsed, with nothing to even recognise the people that lived in the city.
They believed that Aaron actually stopped the ritual.
Though the ritual site was destroyed, there are still some signs that told the officials that whatever the cult was trying to summon was not something that a second-year student could take care of. So, they believed the lie that Aaron said about the disruption of the ritual before it was completed.
If the ritual was completed, they felt that even the top protectors of the city might have failed, and before any allies from nearby cities appeared, the city would most likely disappear. Even if they appeared by chance before that, the chances of them winning are less than 10% and that if all went out at the same time.
So, they believed the false report by Aaron.
The cults believed the same as the alliance.
The reason was that they knew the rank of the creature they were trying to summon and even what type. Although they knew little, they were certain that the creature was undead and likely ranked at least Rank-8, possibly even Rank-9.
There was no way that a second-year student would be able to defeat such a creature, but the disruption made many in the cult know his name.
They already had Aaron’s name on their hit list, which climbed a few places up after the reason behind their failure at Duskmist city came out and not just that, the members who were now punished for their failure, made their aim to eliminate him if they get the chance, no matter what.
He is no longer at the bottom of the cult’s hit list, but the bad part is that he was in the academy. So, they can’t do anything about him.
Some low-level thugs who found out about his family tried to make use of that fact, but Aaron has long prepared for his family’s safety as he rose through the levels.
He knew that they won’t be safe as he makes a name for himself, but that doesn’t mean he wants to stop progressing. It would be like putting a cart before a horse.
He did decrease his growth rate a little, but that doesn’t mean he wasted all that time. As someone who came from a family of low-ranking Life professionals, he has little access to knowledge of the world.
He made use of whatever time he could find to learn new knowledge.
In this world of survival, knowledge is as much as important as strength.
One should know that no one is absolutely powerful. There would always be someone or something that could easily overthrow them.
The secret to the long survival of people was the knowledge, knowing who they can fight and defeat or whom they can’t defeat and run away before the inevitable death arrives.
Aaron is strong and can even survive someone who is a few hundred levels above him, but if he faces some of Rank-8 or Rank-9, can he even survive a few seconds in such a presence?
The answer is no.
For a better chance of survival, he needed to know things about the world, about places that he could go and places that he couldn’t.
There are certain forbidden areas in the world which are said to be the territories filled with a lot of Rank-8 and even Rank-9 creatures.
Sure, if beings below Rank-5 appear, they won’t bother, but that was for normal awakeners. Anomalies like Aaron could attract their attention even if he was just a Rank-1.
It means he has to avoid such places, and where can he learn such knowledge? In the libraries.
He used whatever time he didn’t allocate to levelling up in order not to attract too much attention to learn such things.
Though that was the case, his growth was fast, and he knew that could attract attention to not just himself but also his family.
So, he sent his family many protection items that can protect them when they are in danger, in addition to items that can help them increase strength faster, which was more important than those temporary protection items.
They did their work.
Twice, they were attacked on their way home from work, but they were able to protect themselves.
Even after that, he didn’t tell them to stop working, as it was the best way to improve his parents’ strength at a fast pace.

Vice-Headmistress Office...
"Ah, you are here, come sit", Lyanna said as Aaron arrived at her office as asked, well, more like ordered.
Aaron sat in the seat before her, but shifted in his seat uneasily. He felt that this was not a friendly meeting, but a Vice-headmistress and student meeting.
Over the month, he did almost nothing but spend all his time in the library. So, there should be no reason for this sudden invitation.
"I know that you are stronger than you look, stronger than what you showed the world", Lyanna spoke, but seeing Aaron’s distressed face, she waved her hand, "Don’t worry, not many know about this. You need not worry about yourself about the secret. Everyone has a secret or two".
"It’s not myself I am worried about, but my parents’ safety", Aaron explained his distress.
Lyanna was surprised for a second, but then smiled and nodded her head in satisfaction.
Being powerful doesn’t mean showing off your strength in a flashy manner. No, it means that you can take care of your loved ones. If one can’t protect their loved ones, then being named as the most powerful one has no meaning.
It was something many would forget on their path to reach a higher stage.
"Don’t worry about that matter", she said, "Whatever reasons you have, they are your own. The reason why I summoned you is for entirely a different matter".
