Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 978: Potential connection to an old friend
Yang Qing was inclined to believe in Fan Cai’s deduction since he could sense more from the pearlescent object than Fan Cai could.
"May I?" asked Yang Qing as he pointed at it.
"Sure," said Fan Cai as he casually handed over the object.
Other than increasing his affinity with the water element he had not discovered much use from it over the years, hence he never treated it like a treasure. To him, it was no different than a communication talisman that may or may not work.
Yang Qing pressed the pearl-like object beneath his fingers as he sighed in admiration at how soft and cool it felt to the touch. He could also feel the dense water force flowing within it. If it was refined and the water within released, he had no doubt he would be able to create a fifteen-meter-wide and a-kilometer-deep pond from the water it produced.
The quality of it was nothing to scoff at either. The richness of the water dao contained within it was sufficient to nurture a couple of monarch-grade plants. It was gentle yet vibrant with an added level of purity that would do wonders for plants and even spirit beasts that required gentle yin energy for their growth.
After interacting with it he could already tell that it was a scale, and based on the shimmering patterns on its surface, they looked like that of a carp. As to which specific carp it was, he couldn’t tell.
But what he could tell was the carp in question had definitely reached the palace realm, and based on the quality of it, whether it was how the scale despite being soft, was also durable enough to survive a full-blown blow from him, or the richness of dao contained within it, all of it seemed to suggest that whoever the scale belonged to, had deep foundations in the palace realm and were either at the peak of the middle stages of the palace realm or had stepped on the late stages.
Whoever that sister was, at the very least was a sixth-stage palace realm expert and carp-based spirit beast with skills in the water and yin elements.
"I wonder who she could be?" curiously muttered Yang Qing as he fiddled around with the scale before handing it back to Fan Cai.
"Did she ever mention her sister’s name or anything about her?"
"She didn’t say much other than she aspired to be as powerful as her. Oh, and also that her name Ha, it was that sister who named her that, while she, in turn, picked a name for her as well. My mother chose the name Tian because of how beautiful and graceful she always looked," Fan Cai paused with a pensive look on his face as he tried to recall other things that may have been said.
As a core formation expert, doing that should have been easy, but his memories from childhood were something he actively tried to forget, especially his interactions with his mother.
She wasn’t around often, and for the past twelve years, he hadn’t seen her once. Recalling the memories of his interaction with her, some just made him resentful of her like the one of his kidnapping, and others were too painful to recall because they only served as a reminder that he had a mother but she wasn’t there.
It was only when the year began that he started to actively think about her, and even then, it was only because of a promise she had made to him and how close it was to the appointed date. Before that, he actively shelved all memories of her and locked them in a box.

Recalling those memories now, it was like he was opening a book he had not read in twelve years. Yes, he could still remember its contents, but he needed to read the first sentences of each chapter to trigger those memories.
"She did mention that her sister had a bear cub with her and that if for some reason I was not able to find her, I should go to that cub, though she did end up changing her mind, telling me to avoid the cub as he might end up corrupting me, seeing the amount of trouble he caused for his sister.
She said her sister was perfect in every way except in choosing disciples. I’m guessing the cub she was talking about was her disciple.." Fan Cai said.
"What? You know my mother’s sister or the cub?!" Fan Cai asked in surprise when he saw Yang Qing’s eye flicker slightly at the mention of the cub.
"In a sense," Yang Qing said as he chuckled lightly at Fan Cai’s mention of a cub.
If his guess was right about the identity of said bear cub, then that bear was a cub no more. He wondered what reaction the two would have when the two met. One expecting to meet a cub, and the other being called a cub.
Seeing the anticipatory and almost anxious look Fan Cai had on, Yang Qing decided to expound further.
"I have never met your mother’s sister, nor do I know her personally, but I do have a friend who might know both your mother’s sister and potentially that bear. I will confirm with them later, maybe she knows your mother, but that will have to wait until you’re done with your explanation,"
"Okay," Fan Cai said, sounding slightly disappointed before he roused himself.
"As I mentioned my mother was from the Deer Mountain Range. After her sister left, she too left the place soon after. She roamed around the continent expanding her horizons. She didn’t mention much about that time in her life but with the little I dug up about Deer Mountain Range and what you have shared with me, I think her distrust of humans must have happened after she left the range.
Something must have happened to her during that period she was roaming the continent, I just don’t know what," Fan Cai said in a somber and lowered voice.
Whatever she had experienced her must have been so impactful if she thought having her two year old child kidnapped by ruthless organ traffickers to be a good training lesson for said child, and the other twisted things she had Fan Cai experience so he wouldn’t let his guard down around humans.
