Chapter 65: Chapter 65: I Do Not Accept Slander

Elara Don did not know Vinny Hawke.

But she had heard of the name.

Because the Hawke Group’s beauty department was well-known and had a substantial reputation in the beauty industry.

Their aromatherapy in the beauty academy used pure natural essential oils, which was related to her own fragrance business.

As the approaching woman came closer, Elara, like the others, respectfully greeted her: "Miss Hawthorne."

The sound of high heels came to a sudden stop by Elara’s side.

She cast her a glance and handed her handbag over.

"Hold this for me."

Elara blinked as she accepted the handbag, a bit surprised.

She hadn’t expected Vinny would ask her to hold something for her.

The main point was she seemed to sense an unusual atmosphere.

Contempt!

Vinny’s attitude towards her seemed unfriendly.

"Are you the new perfumer Charlotte?"

Vinny washed her hands with an arrogant expression.

"I am."

Elara lowered her gaze slightly and responded.

"So it’s you!"

Vinny took a paper towel from the side to wipe her hands and looked Elara up and down, "The adopted daughter of the Don Family, getting involved with men at eighteen, giving birth to a stillborn, and then disappearing, Elara Don?"

The woman’s tone was full of disdain.

Elara raised her eyes, her hand gripping the handbag tight, her red lips pressed together.

Such rude words.

Where did she get such hostility from?

"Miss Hawthorne, it’s work time. If there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to work."

Elara handed the handbag back to Vinny, but before Vinny could take it, Sophie Harper grabbed it with disdain in her eyes.

"Did I say you could leave?"

Seeing Elara about to leave, Vinny spoke coldly.

Elara paused her steps and said indifferently, "Miss Hawthorne, what else do you need?"

"Elara Don, I’ve seen women like you many times. You think a bit of good looks can help you climb the social ladder. I don’t care who you’re trying to seduce, but stay away from my brother Damon. You’re still young; don’t go down the wrong path, and don’t covet what you shouldn’t, or else..."

Vinny took two clean napkins and slowly tore them into pieces.

This was a warning, a hint.

Meaning if Elara dared to cling to Damon Hawke, she wouldn’t show mercy!

Elara stared at the shredded paper, feeling a surge of indignation for no good reason.

"Miss Hawthorne, are you warning me? It’s unnecessary because I have no interest in your brother. On the contrary, it is your brother who has been teasing me, even asking me to be his girlfriend."

"You people in high society think you’re superior, looking down on others. Rest assured, as long as your brother stays three feet away, I’ll stay ten feet away!"

Did she have to suffer indignities because of her low status?

She never intended to marry into a wealthy family, all right?

After saying this, Elara turned and left.

Vinny’s face darkened, anger flashing in her eyes.

Next to her, Sophie looked at Vinny’s displeased face, quick to add fuel to the fire, "Miss, look at her, what a thing to say it’s Damon flirting with her? Clearly, she’s the one trying to seduce Damon, truly shameless."

So arrogant!

No young woman had ever dared to speak to her like that!

Vinny kept a stern face, "Come here..."

In the research department, Elara sat at her workstation, her mood already calmed.

Anyway, she wasn’t planning to develop anything further with Damon Hawke, so Vinny’s words didn’t need to be taken to heart.

Yet, the dark, deep eyes of Damon flashed in her mind.

Elara closed her eyes, trying hard to shake off the slight discomfort in her heart, diving back into her work.

If he wanted her to consider being his girlfriend, he would be disappointed!

At this moment, a commotion started at the entrance of the research department. Sophie Harper, with several bodyguards in black, strode in.

"Miss Hawthorne lost a pendant worth millions, and the last person who touched her bag was Charlotte. You all, search!"

Sophie’s sharp voice commanded, and the bodyguards in black followed orders, stepping toward Elara’s workstation.

Elara was stunned, watching the bodyguards turning her workstation into chaos, her brows furrowed.

"Stop it, who gave you the right to go through my things? Stop it now!"

What pendant?

She just helped Vinny hold her bag; she’d never seen any pendant.

No!

She had seen it!

Back in the restroom, wasn’t it hanging around Vinny’s neck?

What’s Vinny trying to do?

Plan to frame her?

The bodyguards rummaged but found nothing and stopped.

Elara was about to speak when she heard Sophie say, "Charlotte, I’d advise you to hand it over quickly. That way, Miss Hawthorne might let it go, seeing you’re a company employee. Otherwise..."

Another threat?

Elara’s face tightened, looking at the elegantly dressed woman approaching with anger.

"I didn’t take any pendant, don’t accuse me!"

So elegant in appearance, yet why so despicable in actions?

"Didn’t take it, you say? Where’s your bag? What’s in it?"

Sophie seized the opportunity, dug out Elara’s bag, and dumped its contents on the ground.

With a clatter, the bag’s keys, wallet, and other contents scattered out.

Along with a shimmering pendant, nestled among them.

"What’s this? Miss, come look, is this your pendant?"

Sophie’s face lit with excitement, holding up the pendant for Vinny to see.

Vinny glanced at the pendant and nodded, "Yes, that’s my pendant."

"Charlotte, what do you have to say now? Who’d have thought, you’re a thief?"

Sophie’s eyes were full of malicious glee.

A crowd gathered to watch, each pointing and commenting about Elara.

"No way, Charlotte is actually a thief? I’m kind of skeptical."

"Skeptical about what? You know people by their faces, not their hearts. Some people are just shocking."

"I left a wad of cash in my bag today, I’d better go check if any is missing!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"..."

The murmurs from the crowd floated into Elara’s ears, leaving her trembling with rage.

"I didn’t take it, I won’t accept this slander! I’m calling the police!"

This is a setup!

Vinny definitely wanted to frame her!

That pendant must have been thrown into her bag by Sophie when no one was watching!

"Charlotte, stop arguing!"

Sophie sneered dismissively, "If you didn’t take it, then explain how Miss’s pendant ended up in your bag?"

"That’s why I said I’d call the police, the company has surveillance cameras. Once checked, the police will reveal the truth and clear my name."

Elara glanced at Vinny, took out her phone, and was about to make the call.

Sophie’s quick reflexes snatched the phone from her.

"Charlotte, you might not want your reputation, but the company values its. How vile can you be, trying to drag the company into the spotlight? Truly malicious!"

Can’t let her call the police!

If she calls the cops, the truth will come out!
