Cultivation Daddy-Chapter 96: The game "Tower Defense"
Liu Xiong told the children during dinner that he has a fun game for them to play, and it would be ready by the time they come back from school. The children were very excited, especially Jingxuan who was very good at playing games.
When Li Jain picked them up from school, they still excited with anticipation.
"How was your day today?"
"Good."
"Really good, instructor Bai was very impress with my performance today. He said with few more lessons, I can definitely become the strongest in the group." Jingxuan said as she skipped towards their destination happily.
"Teacher Ye said that the food was delicious. He said to give this to you and sorry, for putting you through the trouble." Li Juanxin said and hand a small bag fill with spirit stones.
"So does he not want anymore?" Li Jain asked suspiciously
"You know what, I asked him that and he said just for a few more days." Jingxuan answered with a slight blush and gave Li Jain a shy glance.
Li Jain chuckled: "I thought as much."
"Daddy is Uncle Liu home?" Li Zhang asked anticipatingly
"If you’re excited about the game he mentioned, he’s waiting at home." Li Jain smiled.
"YEAH!" They cheered.
They rest of the ride home was filled with the children excited voices while the others were busy telling the excited ones to be quiet.
...
As soon as they got home, and change, they went to the backyard where Liu Xiong was.
"You guys are back." Liu Xiong said and smiled as he greeted them.
"We’re here to play the new game you told us about." Yuhan said excitedly, looking around. But there was nothing in particular except for the regular things they have in the backyard,
"Where is the game?" Li Jingsheng asked curiously
Liu Xiong place a small crystal box on the wooden table. It was the size of a small book, transparent with smooth surface. Its edges reinforced with silver runes. A layer of blue light spun slowly in circles within the crystal. It was like a miniature version of a spectacular city.
The children gathered around immediately and stared fixedly at the tiny city
"What kind of game is it?" Jingxuan asked curiously.
Li Zhang reaches out his hand instinctively to take the crystal box, but it was slap away by Liu Xiong without mercy.
"Well, this game is called Tower Defense, once I’ve gone over the rules and how to play, you guys can try it." Liu Xiong answered with a grin.
"Uncle Xiong!" Li Zhang let out an exaggerated gasp as he looks at Liu Xiong while rolling his eyes.
Liu Xiong ignored his complain and look at Li Jain who was also curious: "This is safe enough for them if the rules are followed accordingly."
Li Jain swept his gazes across the crystal box and nodded: "Explain."
He could pretty much see what the content in the crystal box was made of. Unfortunately, he still couldn’t figure out the game in it. It’s a virtual stimulation made in a spital space; the pace is similar to that of storage spaces and secret realms.
Liu turn back to the children and said: "Listen carefully, this game is called Tower Defense,"
"Tower Defense’" Li Jingxuan repeated the words with interest.
"It’s a group game that can be play in two teams of two. Only four people can enter the crystal at once, so the standard game is two against two. There can be more than two players on a team but only two would enter and actually play."
"But it sounds interesting." Jingxuan says and clap happily.
He was really interested. Even if he didn’t get to play in the first round, it still sounded exciting.
"As expected of Uncle Xiong." Li Zhang praise enthusiastically.
Li Yujian remained silent, his gaze was focused on the crystal box: "What are the objectives?
"Just as the name suggest, protect the tower. The team whose tower gets taken down first loses." Liu Xiong said and tapped the crystal box lightly and an illusion projection formed above it.
Two towers appeared in opposite directions, standing far apart in a misty field. Between them were paths, one leading to the left and another right. There were brush, boulders, and broken ruins scatter across the map. Small structures were scattered throughout the area. And the two towers were connected at three points.
"Each team has a tower and their only objective is to protect their own tower while doing everything they can to take down the other team’s tower." Liu Xiong explain.
"It’s war." Li Cheng’s eyes narrow sightly
"It is a game, but yes." Liu Xiong corrected him
He flicked his fingers again and six small figures appeared beside each tower. They were little minion puppets made of light, carrying tiny weapons.
"Each team will have six minions, take it as little helpers." Liu Xiong said: "They are controlled the field formation. They will follow orders when instructed, whether it’s defense, scout, or attack."
"Will their weapons really hurt us?" Li Juanxin asked the most important question that he thought his brothers had forgotten.
"Well... yes. But they’re only at the first level of Physical Body so all of you can defeat them easily." Liu Xiong reassure them
"Oh, ok."
"Each person will have color marker. They will be placed they physical contact. When three marks are placed on one person, that person is out."
"What does out mean...?"
"Out means that person would be removed from the game space and they can be replaced by their substitute member immediately before their tower get taken down."
The more the children listen, the more excited they become. Their faces were full of anticipation, clearly, they already imagined themselves defeating the little minions. And forcing their opponent into retreating.
"Inside the space, what action are allowed?" Li Jain asked. Although the game was exciting, he didn’t want his little buns to hurt each other badly. Especially if weapons are allowed.
"Expect actual weapons, anything within bounds is fair play. Mostly hand combat, hiding, ambush, setting traps, guarding routes. It is a strategy game, the tower can be attack directly or weakened by clearing paths and minions."
"I want to play already, can we start now?" Li Zhang shouted excitedly.
"One more thing, I almost forgot. Resource points can generate items and support formations. Whoever gets more resources would have the advantage and higher change of winning."
"So you don’t necessarily need physical strength to win." Li Juanxin let out a sigh of relieved.
He was considering not participating at first. Now, with all these benefits, how could he possibly refuse? So, he chose to participate as well to make contribution and have fun with everyone.
"You guys are lucky, if it was only about strength, I would’ve won without even trying." Li Zhang patted his chest proudly and laugh out loud.
"Don’t be so cocky and underestimate us." Li Cheng rolled his eyes.
Liu Xiong tap the crystal box again and the projection fade: "Now then, you guys should form teams."
"Isn’t it obvious? The winning team is already here." As Yuhan said that Li Zhang and Li Jingxuan went behind him, clearly forming their team.
Li Cheng sneered: "I knew you guys were going to choose each other."
"We’re not even number, if we form one more team of three, someone will have to sit out." Li Jingsheng pointed out.
"I don’t mind sitting out." Li Juanxin said and stood next to his father.
The second team was made of Li Yujian, Li Cheng, and Li Jingsheng. On the other team, Li Zhang demanded to be captain, but when he heard that the captain isn’t a starting player, he gave up.
Liu Xiong didn’t want Juanxin to feel left out so he suggested for him to be the judge. Juanxin agree happily,
"Is there a way to communicate with the one teammate that remains outside?" Li Yujian asked.
"Yes, there’s this communication talisman. Those with the same ones can communicate without worrying about the other teams overhearing them." Liu Xiong answered and distributed the talisman to them along with the markers.
Team 1, Li Yuhan and his two brothers have blue, while team 2, Li Yujian and the other two has red. Making them team Blue and team Red.
Li Juanxin climbed onto the chair beside the crystal box. Liu Xiong handed him a thin monitoring talisman.
Once everyone was ready, Liu place his palm on the crystal box and activated it. The crystal inner light expanded and a blink of an eye, all four figures that had their hands on it vanished into the artifact.
....
Li Jingxuan was late to put his hand and was left out with Yujian, automatically becoming the captain of his team. He was at a loss of what to do. What advice can he possibly give them?
The world in the crystal box was as beautiful as a painting. Mist rolled over grassland like waves, and a bright moonlight shone down on the land, illuminating the whole area. Ruined stone structures rose from the ground. Two towers stood far apart, one red and one blue.
They landed near their respective towers.
"Can you guys hear me?" Li Yujian said while holding the talisman.
"Yes, we can."
"Yes,"
Li Cheng and Jingsheng answered simultaneously.
"Ok, just focus on collecting resources. I’ll keep an eye on the map." Li Yujian said after confirming their response.
"Got it."
Although Li Jingxuan couldn’t hear what his older brother said, he was sure that he was communicating with his team. This made him more anxious. He decided to trust his team; there’s nothing he could do anyway.
