Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 366: The fall
Braelyn’s POV
"Is it Braelyn Volkov? You are stated at Lucien’s Volkov emergency contact. He just got involved in a fatal car accident. " My words froze in my throat as the world tilted.
"What did you say?" I asked again, but my voice didn’t sound like mine. It came out thin, almost swallowed by the sudden ringing in my ears. My heart beat slowly spiked up.
On the other end, the voice remained calm as she delivered the news. "Ma’am, Mr Lucien Volkov was involved in a severe car accident. He has been transported to the hospital. His condition is critical. You are listed as his emergency contact." I was too shock to be surprised lucien changed his emergency contact.
Everything around me blurred. The room, the clerk, the papers on the table, Raphael sitting right beside me... all of it faded into the background like it no longer existed. None of that mattered as much as Lucien. My lucien, the pain twisted sharp in my chest tears started pouring out.
My head started repeating the caller words. Lucien was involved in a car accident and was in critical condition. This couldn’t be happening. Seeing my pale face at some point Raphael stood up, his chair scrapped against the tiled floor and rushed to my side.
My chest tightened so painfully I could barely breathe. "Which hospital?" I demanded with a trembling voice, already pushing my chair back so abruptly it scraped loudly against the floor. I was halfway to the door
"The West Legacy Hospital. He just arrived." the respondents said immediately.
"I’m on my way," I said quickly, the trembling in my voice got worse. I reached for the door and yanked it open.
I didn’t wait for anything else. Not the clerk or the divorce procedure, not even the papers we had come here for. It didn’t fucking matter. My thoughts could only go to Amelia miscarriages. Was this some type of retaliation? Was the registry date a step up?
My heels clicked furiously against the tiled floor. I clutched my purse tightly whispering to myself. ’ Please let him be fine. God please safe him.’ I hadn’t prayed in ages but today I was desperate.
Raphael’s footsteps drew closer, he must have rushed after me, "Lynn, what happened?" Raphael’s voice followed behind me, his tone was filled with concern. I didn’t answer him..I couldn’t answer when all I could do was repeat a silent prayer on repeat.
I rushed out into the waiting area, my heart pounding so loudly it drowned out everything else. My eyes locked onto the driver immediately. "West Legacy Hospital. It’s an emergency," I said breathlessly not giving a fuck that everyone could hear me.
The driver was shock, I couldn’t bother to explain further I was already moving toward the exit.
The driver’s eyes snap open, he didn’t hesitate and stood up instantly, his expression turning serious as he followed after me.
I pushed through the doors, and the cold air hit me like a slap, biting against my skin, but I barely felt it..All I could think about was getting to him.
I moved too fast barely paying any attention for my surroundings. I rushed down the high steps of the registry entrance. My foot missed the second step.
My heels broke and the ground disappeared beneath me. A sharp gasp tore from my lips as my body lurched forward. The steps were slick with snow, and before I could steady myself, I slipped.
Everything happened too quickly. My body rolled down the stairs, the impact jarring, painful, disorienting. A collective gasp rose around me, voices blurring together in the background.
"Lynn!" a guttural roared boomed from behind me as I stumbled..I heard Raphael’s voice behind me. He sprinted towards me trying to reach me in time but it was too late. Our fingers brushed barely grasping each other then I fell plunging down.
My head rang as I hit the pavement hard. For a second, everything went silent except for the high-pitched ringing in my ears.
But I couldn’t stay down. I needed to get to him. The thought alone forced my body to move crawling up the floor.
I pushed myself up, my hands trembling violently against the cold ground. My vision swam, black spots dancing at the edges, but I forced my legs to hold my weight.
I had to get to him. I managed to stand up on my trembling legs. Pain exploded through my body, every muscle in my body screamed, but I ignored it, biting down hard as I tried to keep moving.
"Lynn, stop," Raphael’s voice was right behind me now. I staggered, stumbling backwards. Raphael caught me on time before my body could hit the floor. His hand was trembling as he held me.
Another wave of pain hit me again, this time. It twisted in my lower abdomen, stealing the air from my lungs. My breath hitched, my body faltering as my vision blurred again.
Something felt wrong. I instinctively held my stomach. My mind was still screaming to move. Raphael was still trembling his voice came out in gasps. "I am sorry Lynn. If only I caught you faster. I am sorry..." he apologised
I froze, why was he apologising. That’s when within my panic I realized something sticky between my legs. Slowly, my gaze dropped to seeing something horrifying.
A dark red stain spread across the fabric between my legs blooming in the dress and even the snow underneath me.
My heart stopped.
No.
No, no, no... this wasn’t happening to me.
"My baby..." The words came out as a broken whisper, barely audible even to myself.
Panic surged violently through me, my shaky hands clutched my stomach harder as if it could stop the bleeding.
"No..." My voice cracked again. Then a scream tore through me "No... my baby..."
The world tilted again. The shook was too much for me to handle and my body gave out.
