Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 83: An Important Opportunity
"Of course I know this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I’m just a bit lacking in confidence."
Noah laughed at this: "You actually have moments of insecurity?"
Summer Lowell sighed softly: "I can’t help it, right now there are so many people around who don’t like me, it’s making me doubt myself a bit."
Understanding her situation, Noah shook his head sympathetically and then said, "That’s why you should seize every opportunity you can, and show them that Summer Lowell is not someone to be trifled with."
Saying this, he forwarded an electronic invitation he had just received in his email to Summer: "It’s this event, this weekend, are you free?"
Just then, Summer suddenly remembered the hiking trip she had planned with Justin Huxley and couldn’t help but hesitate.
Noticing her expression, Noah couldn’t help but remind her: "Summer, you have to know what’s more important!"
"I understand, President Norris, no matter how important the other thing is, it’s not as important as this event. Don’t worry, I’ll be there on time."
Seeing her agreement, Noah smiled with satisfaction: "That’s the right attitude. You’re at a stage where you need to work on expanding your network. Seize every chance to open up new opportunities, as it will help your future development."
After saying this, he paused and added: "I’m not just making empty promises. You’ve seen how, when the headquarters gave you a hard time earlier, I managed to protect you. But that’s only temporary; for them to truly accept you, you’ll need to show them your abilities."
With the conversation at this point, Summer had no choice but to turn down Justin Huxley.
"I appreciate all the effort you’re making for me, President Norris. I’ll do my best at the event this weekend to earn Venus’s approval."
"By the way, your words reminded me." Noah picked up a lighter from the side and lit a cigarette. "I hear you’re on pretty good terms with that Justin Huxley from the Huxley Family?"
Summer didn’t understand why he suddenly brought up Justin: "We went to the same school abroad, and our relationship was fine. But we lost touch for many years and just recently reconnected. Why do you ask?"
"It’s nothing," Noah exhaled a puff of smoke. "Old Mr. Huxley was quite the character in his youth. His second wife has a good relationship with Ms. Venus, and Justin Huxley is the eldest son of that wife’s third son. If you want to learn more about Ms. Venus, perhaps you could ask your old schoolmate."
Summer blinked and couldn’t help but remark: "The Huxley family’s connections are indeed quite complex!"
"Old Mr. Huxley was indeed a prominent figure in his younger years. Back then, the founder of the Sinclair Group got along quite well with him. The two were equally matched in ability, but the gap between the two families widened in later generations." Noah extinguished his cigarette in the ashtray and sighed, "Maxim Sinclair is truly formidable; there isn’t anyone in the Huxley Family who can match him."
Summer, who was equally aware of Maxim Sinclair’s prowess, forced a smile: "Then I’ll go find Justin Huxley later and ask him about Venus."
"Yes, pay attention to this matter." Noah took a silk handkerchief and gently wiped the ash off his wrists. "Find some time tomorrow to pick out a dress, on me. Venus likes to engage with beautiful women. When you meet her, make sure you dress nicely!"
Summer nodded in agreement: "Alright, but I could get a feel of it from Justin first."
"That’s a smart way to think." Noah nodded with satisfaction. "Engage with her well and make her see the potential in our company. After all, as the design director, you represent our company’s image to some extent!"
Summer chuckled wryly: "The way you put it, you’re really putting the pressure on me!"
Noah patted Summer on the shoulder: "No pressure, you’re the first design director I’ve met who’s both beautiful and talented. Believe in yourself."
Feeling flattered, Summer nodded sheepishly: "You’re too kind, President Norris. I won’t keep you from your work any longer."
"Yes, alright."
Noah waved her off, signaling she could leave.
Later in the evening.
After leaving the conference room, Justin Huxley tossed the set of documents he was holding onto the desk and rubbed his throbbing temples.
His secretary entered the room, placing a coffee in front of him. "President Huxley, your coffee."
Justin picked up the coffee and took a sip: "Do I have any dinners scheduled for tonight?"
"No, President Huxley. Would you like me to arrange a dinner for you?"
"No need, it’s good there isn’t one. Drinking every day is hard on the stomach."
Justin smiled, picked up his phone from the desk, and checked for any missed messages.
As soon as he opened the screen, he saw a message from Summer Lowell.
"Justin, do you have time tonight? I’d like to treat you to dinner."
Surprised, having already set a hiking date with her for the weekend, Justin raised an eyebrow, muttering softly: "That’s not like you."
The secretary assumed he was speaking to her: "Pardon, President Huxley, did you say something?"
"I wasn’t talking to you."
Justin waved her off and went to a corner to call Summer. "Summer, why the sudden urge to treat me to dinner?"
On the other end, Summer started with an apology: "I’m really sorry, but my boss added an assignment for this weekend, so I won’t be able to join you for the hike."
"Oh, I see," Justin chuckled warmly, "I wondered why you suddenly wanted to treat me to dinner tonight. So you’re cancelling on me and making up for it with dinner, right?"
"Yes, I was wondering if you were free tonight?"
Justin looked intently at the Sinclair Group’s big logo in the distance, taking his time to respond: "Yes, I’m free. For your invitation, of course, I’m free. But I’ll take care of the bill; it’s not right to let a lady treat me. It wouldn’t be gentlemanly."
"Justin, you’re joking again."
After exchanging pleasantries, they agreed on a location for dinner.
After hanging up, Justin went into the lounge and picked an outfit that best highlighted his charm, then put on his watch as he walked out: "I have an important appointment tonight. Please handle things while I’m gone unless it’s really urgent."
"Understood, President Huxley."
An hour later, Justin, wearing a gentle smile, pulled out a chair for Summer as she arrived: "I could have picked you up. You insisted I don’t, but wasn’t taking a cab a hassle?"
Summer tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled softly: "It wasn’t a hassle. A colleague gave me a ride. If I asked you to pick me up, it would’ve been more trouble for you."
"You don’t have to be so formal with me. So, how long have you been back in the country? Have you gotten your local driving license yet?"
