Chapter 23 - A coincidence

The entire reservation was empty.

They were just two people seated there.

The soft jazz drifted through the air, blending perfectly with the serene atmosphere in the dining room.

Golden wall sconces cast a warm, flattering light over crisp white tablecloths and crystal glassware that caught every glint of the chandeliers above.

Caleb had a smile on his face as he looked at Naya's scrunched-up face.

She couldn't believe that he had managed to pull it off.

He got the entire reservation!

Not only that, but he even grabbed a share in the company while he was at it.

She had truly underestimated Caleb's power.

And she was surprised.

"I told you it would work... without your help," Caleb said, rubbing it in.

"Hmph... He only accepted because I was here in the first place. If you'd come yourself, he definitely wouldn't accept your offer," Naya retorted, her arms crossed over her chest.

Caleb sighed.

'I won't deny that—I did use her influence to get Martin to accept the offer. If I approached him alone, there was definitely no way he'd accept an offer from a complete stranger... Even if he happens to find out my reputation as the son of Jin, that won't be convincing enough... Since I have no economic standing... The previous Caleb really had quite the reputation,' he thought to himself, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"You're right. Without you here, it wouldn't have worked. But at least it did. Now we don't have to worry about Nathan having any suspicions."

Caleb drew a deep sigh.

'Everything so far has been falling into place. Now all we have to do is wait,' Caleb thought to himself.

"Sir, this is what you ordered," one of the waiters walked up to the two, carrying a tray in his hands.

He opened the tray, placing it carefully on top of the round table.

The rich scent of honeyed bread and smoked meat lingered—clearly crafted with premium ingredients.

The waiter served the two of them on their plates before leaving.

Naya picked up her fork and knife, taking a cut from the fleshy meat.

"So, are you sure you'll be able to raise the funds to pay your sister back?" Naya asked.

She was curious—maybe even suspicious—but she still smiled at him like she trusted him.

For now.

Caleb knew she was becoming more wary of him right after he offered to buy the entire reservation.

She was sure to have several questions on her mind.

Especially after what happened during their first encounter. She had yet to totally put off the thought of him being a Cardholder—he could tell, since she always seemed to have her guards up around him.

'At least her suspicions aren't affecting her feelings towards me, else this would've been more difficult,' Caleb thought with a wry smile.

"Don't worry, I'm putting my hopes on Martin for that... He has the mind of a sharp entrepreneur. His business plans will definitely bring back humongous returns."

Of course, he thought of the investment before charging in.

In a city overflowing with wealth and ambition, a grand event hall offered more than just space—it offered power.

The elite needed a place to gather, host, and be seen.

A place that whispered exclusivity and shouted influence.

And right now, there wasn't one big enough to meet that demand. That's where Martin's hotel—and now, Caleb's investment—came in.

'He knew the returns would definitely favor him!'

And the best part of it all was that he didn't spend any of his money making the investment.

It was all on his sister.

Julie Monrrow.

The only sister who was closest to him.

Unlike all his other siblings who entered into rivalry, hardly granting support to each other.

Julie was always willing to help. She was the first daughter, and also the richest right after his elder brother.

Owning her own company and brand for fashion wear.

She stood above most of his siblings.

'Thankfully the money wasn't too much for her. All I had to do was promise her free entrance the first time she decides to use the mega hall... Of course, after I pay back,' Caleb thought with a smile.

He could pay back if he wanted to, since he had the money in his hands already.

He had the money in his hands. So why didn't he use it?

That was a question for another time.

The two didn't talk much. Rather than an enjoyable date, it was more like a tense moment between them.

Despite all the A.C. in the dining room, Caleb could still see the beads of sweat on her head.

He could tell that she was still scared.

'What if the plan didn't work?'

'What if Nathan actually succeeded?'

All these were questions worth asking—and questions that added to the weight on her shoulders.

Caleb frowned, but he didn't say a thing.

He casually placed a hand on top of Naya's.

"Don't worry, it's all going to be alright... Let's just wait and see how it all turns out," Caleb reassured.

Her cold, domineering gaze returned as she looked at Caleb.

"I'm not afraid. If you fail, then I'll deal with it myself. It's not like I'm expecting much from you."

Caleb didn't argue with her.

She could deny all she wanted, but her reactions told a different story.

Caleb could feel sweat drop down from his face.

Sweat?

Unlike Naya, he wasn't panicking.

The A.C.s were still working perfectly... and he was sweating?

"Excuse me, I'd love to use the restroom," Caleb said to Naya, leaving her.

Naya didn't say anything as she sat with her hands folded.

As soon as Caleb left, she could hear footsteps approaching from the side.

As she turned her head, she could see a figure dressed in an all-black suit.

A smug grin plastered on his face.

"Naya Lucy, it's such a pleasure to meet you here tonight... Isn't it a coincidence that we met here tonight?"
