Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 722: That Woman Really Haunts Like a Persistent Ghost
"I... I’m going to sleep now," Ji Wei said, her face flushed.
She tugged at the quilt with both hands, then tugged again, pulling it up until it covered more than half of her face. Only then did Ji Wei lift her eyes to glance at the man above her who remained unmoved.
"Aren’t you sleeping?" she asked nervously.
Gu Moqian stared silently at her, his gaze deep and unreadable.
Ji Wei started to feel anxious, "But I’m really trying to sleep, and with you standing there like this... How can I sleep?"
With such a handsome man in front of her, staring at her with such intensity, how big of a heart would she need to actually fall asleep?
"Weiwei, do you still love me?" Gu Moqian suddenly asked softly.
Ji Wei froze, staring at him, unable to process his words for several seconds.
This question—she didn’t even need to think to know the answer.
But they were about to divorce. Now, what did love or lack of love matter anymore?
Ji Wei’s mood instantly sank. She gently bit her lip, choosing not to answer him.
Gu Moqian remained silent, standing there for a while before he suddenly let out a light sigh. He then leaned down and pressed a kiss against her smooth forehead. "Goodnight."
This "Goodnight" made Ji Wei’s heart tremble.
"Where are you going?" Seeing the man turn to leave, she instinctively blurted out.
Gu Moqian paused mid-step, and when he turned back, there was a hint of warmth in his gaze. "I’m going to the study to handle some matters."
"Oh."
Ji Wei feigned indifference as she responded briefly, saying nothing more.
Gu Moqian turned toward the walk-in closet. After changing into his nightwear, he saw the woman lying with her eyes closed when he came out. Without lingering, he directly opened the door and walked out.
When she heard the sound of the bedroom door shutting, Ji Wei lay still and slowly opened her eyes.
Her heart was unable to find peace for a long while.
She clearly still felt something for Gu Moqian, clearly still loved him. Yet she had come so close to signing the divorce papers...
Gu Moqian paced into the study, where a few missed calls lay displayed on the phone on his desk—all from Chen Ke.
He immediately dialed back.
"Has there been any progress in the investigation?" Gu Moqian asked as he held the phone to his ear, one hand in his pocket while he gazed out of the window at the boundless night.
"Mr. Gu, we’ve discovered someone completely unexpected!" On the other end of the call, Assistant Chen’s voice sounded shocked.
"Who?"
"Ji Shanshan!" Chen Ke exclaimed. "The Ji Shanshan who plunged into the ocean along with the car didn’t die—she’s back! She’s now at the Ji Family residence." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Ji Shanshan isn’t dead...
Gu Moqian was equally stunned. That woman was truly like a lingering ghost.
Considering the bad blood between her and Ji Wei, it was almost certain that the person who orchestrated the car crash targeting Ji Wei was none other than Ji Shanshan!
However, Ji Shanshan had disappeared for over a year. Suddenly choosing to return at such a time—her motives likely wouldn’t be this simple.
Why was she back this time? What was her true purpose?
Was she planning to exact complete revenge on Ji Wei?
"Assistant Chen, have someone keep a twenty-four-hour watch on that woman. Every single detail of her actions—I want complete transparency," Gu Moqian instructed.
It was important not to alert the snake in the grass. Once he had enough evidence and clarified her intentions, he would settle both old and new scores with Ji Shanshan!
After finishing the phone call with Chen Ke, Gu Moqian walked back to his desk and reached out to turn on the table lamp.
He had intended to sit down and review some documents, but his mind suddenly conjured the image of Ji Wei before he had left the bedroom—her faintly despondent expression that she had tried but failed to disguise.
Gu Moqian stood silently for several seconds, then abruptly reached out and turned off the lamp again.
Holding his phone, he turned and strode out of the study without hesitation.
