Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 653: Hasn’t the Critical Period Already Passed?
"Doctor, how is she? Is the baby in her belly okay?"
"The patient’s fever has temporarily subsided, but her mental state is not good. Emotional fluctuations greatly impact the fetus. If this isn’t addressed, it might result in premature labor..."
...
Ji Wei groggily heard voices near her ears. She tried hard to open her eyes, but her eyelids felt unbearably heavy, and her whole body lacked strength.
Frowning uneasily, she shifted slightly before falling back asleep.
When she woke up again, Ji Wei turned her head and saw Nan Huiru.
"Mom..."
She called out hoarsely.
Nan Huiru, snapping out of her daze, quickly walked to the bedside and asked, "You’re awake. Do you want some water?"
Ji Wei pressed her dry lips together and nodded.
Nan Huiru turned around to pour her some water, and Ji Wei’s gaze followed her movements.
For a fleeting moment, she thought she might be seeing things. Was this haggard, seemingly aged figure really the same dignified and strong-willed woman she used to know?
Gu Zhizhou’s collapse must have shattered Nan Huiru’s world as well.
"The water is lukewarm. I’ll help you sit up to drink."
Nan Huiru walked over with the cup, helping Ji Wei sit up against the headboard and feeding her sips of water.
"Thank you, Mom."
After a few sips, Ji Wei weakly raised her eyes and gave Nan Huiru a faint smile.
Nan Huiru set the cup down, but when she turned back, her expression had grown much more serious.
She stared at Ji Wei intently. "You need to go back to the country. Tom told me, and this is also Mo Qian’s decision. Your health is not suited to staying here. The doctor said that if you continue like this, it will be harmful to the baby."
Ji Wei bit her lower lip, staying silent.
"If your belly gets any bigger, you won’t be able to fly. So stop hesitating."
Nan Huiru kept persuading her. "I know Gu Zhizhou’s situation has upset you, but staying here won’t change anything. You fainted today, and luckily you were in the hospital. If it had been somewhere else without anyone around, both you and the baby could’ve been in danger. Have you thought about that?"
"I know you want to help Mo Qian, but even I can’t interfere in this situation. He’s my own son—how could I not feel heartbroken? I feel the same way as you do."
"Go back and focus on taking care of yourself and the baby. Deliver the child safely. I promise you, I will ensure Mo Qian comes back to you in good condition."
Nan Huiru spoke at length, but Ji Wei merely lowered her head, listening in silence.
She understood the logic, but she just couldn’t stop worrying...
"Rest for now. I’ve asked Tom to reschedule your flight tickets. Once you’re discharged, you’ll be sent back to the country." Nan Huiru patted her hand lightly and then turned to leave.
Ji Wei leaned back against the headboard and slowly closed her eyes.
She just sat there quietly, not moving at all. Her pale face made her look heartbreakingly fragile.
During this time, a nurse came in to check her temperature. Because of her pregnancy, the doctors avoided giving her too much medication. Seeing that she was recovering a bit, the nurse gave her a few reminders before leaving.
By evening, Nan Huiru entered the ward carrying a thermal food container.
"The Chinese food abroad never tastes quite right. I made this myself. Have some." Nan Huiru opened the container’s lid and arranged the dishes on the small bedside table.
Looking at the sumptuous meal in front of her, tears welled up in Ji Wei’s eyes. She forced down the lump in her throat and asked, "How’s Dad’s situation?"
Nan Huiru sighed. "Still the same... Now eat first."
Just as she spoke, a servant walked in hurriedly, her expression flustered. Leaning close to Nan Huiru, she murmured a few words.
Nan Huiru’s face instantly went pale, and as she stood up, her body wavered slightly.
"What happened?" Ji Wei asked urgently.
"Gu Zhizhou was suddenly transferred to the intensive care unit. How could this happen? Wasn’t he already out of critical danger? I have to go see him..."
Nan Huiru’s words came out incoherently, her face white as a sheet. Gripping the servant’s arm, she hurriedly walked out of the room.
