Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 646: You go out, don’t disturb my work
When Ji Wei went downstairs, she saw Gu Moqian just entering, changing his shoes at the entrance. The old butler was asking him if he had eaten dinner.
The dark suit pants had their hems wetted by rain, and his ink-black short hair still bore traces of dampness.
Upon sensing the woman approaching, Gu Moqian slowly lifted his eyes to look at her, the gaze indifferent, his face devoid of extra expression. With just a glance, he retracted his gaze again, lowered his head, and continued to slip his feet into his shoes.
The old butler ordered someone to prepare dinner.
Gu Moqian, having changed his shoes, didn’t even glance at Ji Wei and walked straight to the study.
Ji Wei had prepared a bellyful of words, only to have them stuck in her throat just like that.
Seeing him ignore her and walk away, she slightly clenched her hand hanging at her side and, calming her mood, followed after him.
The villa was heated, and as Gu Moqian walked into the study, he took off his trench coat and only wore a shirt and waistcoat.
The clean white shirt on him, even though his face was weary, still couldn’t conceal his refined demeanor.
Ji Wei silently stepped into the study, casually closing the door behind her.
Gu Moqian sat down in front of the armchair, switched on the desk lamp, and then took out a stack of documents from the drawer.
He lowered his eyes, focusing on perusing the documents, his expression cold and distant; the warm halo of the lamp outlined his lean profile, making Ji Wei’s heart ache.
Since Gu Moqian entered the door, she had noticed he had lost a lot of weight and appeared weary.
Although she didn’t know what exactly Gu Moqian was up to, Ji Wei concluded that he had been having a very tough time recently.
So it was understandable that he didn’t reply to messages or answer calls.
Ji Wei steadied her mind, a faint smile appearing on her lips as she approached him, stopping and softly calling out, "Mo Qian, I came here without telling you beforehand. You’re not mad at me, are you?"
Gu Moqian turned a deaf ear to her words, his jet-black eyes still fixed on the document in front of him.
Ji Wei’s face turned a shade paler, she gathered the courage to extend her hand, but before she could touch his sleeve, he coldly avoided her.
"Go out, don’t disturb my work." Gu Moqian’s attitude was cold beyond belief.
Ji Wei stood there without moving.
Gu Moqian caught a glimpse of that solitary figure from the corner of his eye; his brows slightly furrowed as he continued to bury himself in the documents.
The documents were all in English, filled with many technical terms that Ji Wei couldn’t quite comprehend, nor was she in the mindset to try.
She silently watched Gu Moqian, feeling as though a small, unremovable thorn had pierced her heart, appearing and painfully vanishing.
Before long, the old butler came to knock on the door, informing Gu Moqian to have dinner in the dining room.
"Got it."
Gu Moqian answered in a deep voice, closing the documents, he stood and walked around Ji Wei to leave the study.
Ji Wei took a deep breath, adjusting her emotions.
She told herself it was okay, unwilling to believe that Gu Moqian would truly be heartless enough to abandon her.
They had been through so much together, already viewing each other as indispensable parts of their lives.
Feeling slightly better, Ji Wei opened the door and went out.
Gu Moqian sat alone at the dining table, eating; the light from the crystalline chandelier above was dazzling, and his eating manner was elegant, still retaining that noble air.
Ji Wei pulled out a chair and sat beside him, looking up to watch him eat.
A tinge of heavy light flickered through Gu Moqian’s dark eyes, though it vanished in an instant.
"Young madam, you didn’t eat much for dinner, would you like some more?" the old butler kindly inquired.
Ji Wei smiled at him, "Sure, I’d like some corn chowder."
The old butler smiled as he turned to retrieve it.
When the corn chowder was brought up, the old butler had also added a freshly grilled steak to her plate.
Ji Wei cut the steak with a knife and fork, beginning to speak cheerfully, "The baby has been moving a lot these days, probably protesting since they haven’t heard Dad’s voice."
The hand with the knife and fork paused, Gu Moqian’s expression grew colder.
Ji Wei placed the cut steak onto his plate, "Mo Qian, you’ve lost weight lately, eat more."
Gu Moqian stared at the small pieces of steak she had cut on his plate, remaining silent.
Clatter——
The knife and fork abruptly slipped from his fingers, striking the plate with a loud clamor.
Gu Moqian stood up, striding out of the dining room, leaving her with a chilly and indifferent back.
