He had come specifically to stand up for Ji Wei. Even though Gu Moqian was his brother, divorcing Ji Wei so abruptly and without explanation was something that no one could easily reconcile.
"Old Xi, don’t meddle in this matter. I’ve made myself clear enough. If you were in my position, you’d do the same," Gu Moqian said as he finished speaking, then strode forward.
Xi Nanfeng wanted to roar at him that, damn it, he’d never be so cold and heartless!
He again caught up to Gu Moqian, grabbing his arm and shoving the car keys into his hand: "Go back and rest immediately—I’ll handle things here."
Gu Moqian glanced at the car keys in his palm, his deep, dark eyes slightly shifting.
"If you don’t leave, I’ll call Ji Wei right now and ask her to come over!" Xi Nanfeng threatened, his stern tone making it clear he wasn’t joking.
The hallway was quiet, and suddenly the sound of rain pattering echoed faintly. Gu Moqian lifted his gaze to see that a drizzle had begun to fall in the night sky, making the winter evening even colder.
His expression froze, his fingers tightened around the car keys, and after a brief moment of contemplation, a hoarse, almost inaudible "Thank you" escaped his throat.
Gu Moqian ultimately left the hospital.
Xi Nanfeng watched his tall, lean figure slowly disappear into the distance, finally breathing out a long sigh.

Ji Wei hadn’t slept at all.

But no car had come through.

Suddenly, the image of a snowy day resurfaced in her mind—Gu Moqian had personally wrapped a scarf around her neck and helped her put on gloves. He had always taken tender care of her, warming her feet when they were cold, holding her hands and tucking them into his cozy clothes when chilled.
She had long grown accustomed to his unwavering affection, and the thought of life without him felt unimaginable.
But the balcony was far too cold. Concerned for the baby inside her, Ji Wei dared not stay out any longer. Just as she was about to head back to the bedroom, her gaze caught sight of a pile of scattered cigarette butts in the corner of the balcony.
She froze in place.
When Gu Moqian had learned she was pregnant, he’d immediately quit smoking. In the past several months, she hadn’t once seen him touch a cigarette.

Although the umbrella concealed the man’s upper body, Ji Wei immediately recognized Gu Moqian from the long legs encased in tailored trousers and his broad, sturdy back.
A glimmer of delight flashed in her eyes, and she turned around, quickly striding out of the bedroom.
