Chapter 644: Chapter 644: The Car Accident Is Very Serious

He didn’t expect Xi Nanfeng to come directly to the hospital.

Xi Nanfeng immediately noticed the cigarette tucked between Gu Moqian’s slender fingers. Besides that, Gu Moqian had changed quite a bit.

The once clean and refined face now had a faint circle of stubble around the lips. His deep, dark eyes were bloodshot and heavy with exhaustion.

How long had it been since he last closed his eyes...

Xi Nanfeng had prepared a barrage of criticism for Gu Moqian, but upon seeing him like this, all the words were swallowed back.

"I thought you already quit smoking?" Xi Nanfeng, at a loss for words, noticed the smoke curling from his fingertips and blurted this out.

Gu Moqian heard this and tugged at the corner of his lips, curling them into a faint self-deprecating smile.

After a brief silence, his deep gaze suddenly fixated on Xi Nanfeng: "You still brought her here."

Gu Moqian’s voice was abnormally hoarse, which made Xi Nanfeng a bit concerned.

How long could Old Mo’s body hold up to this...

Xi Nanfeng shot Gu Moqian a sharp look: "You think you can just brush Ji Wei aside with a divorce agreement? Too crude and ruthless. She’s your wife! Coming here to seek an explanation and reason isn’t wrong."

Gu Moqian brought the cigarette to his lips and took a deep inhale. His deep, dark eyes turned to the night outside the window, and his thin lips pressed tightly together.

The conversation abruptly fell into silence. Feeling slightly uneasy, Xi Nanfeng broke it by asking, "What exactly is your father sick with? Is it serious?"

Gu Moqian had only told him that Gu Zhizhou was unwell without specifying the details.

Instead of answering immediately, Gu Moqian stubbed out the cigarette in the nearby trash can, glanced at him, and said in a low tone, "Follow me."

Gu Moqian led Xi Nanfeng directly to the hallway outside the intensive care unit.

Through the glass window, Xi Nanfeng saw Gu Zhizhou lying in bed with his eyes tightly closed, an oxygen mask strapped to his face.

"My dad isn’t sick. He was in a car accident." Gu Moqian’s gaze darkened as he looked at the scene inside the ward and spoke.

Xi Nanfeng widened his eyes in shock, his face filled with disbelief.

Gu Moqian turned back to look at him and continued, "The accident was severe. I heard the car nearly caught fire and exploded. They tried to keep it hidden from me, but I found out anyway."

"The day I arrived, Dad had just been moved out of the ICU. He hasn’t woken up once during this time. The doctors said there’s a high chance he’ll remain like this, never waking again."

Xi Nanfeng understood the implication in Gu Moqian’s words — Gu Zhizhou might become a vegetative state.

He hadn’t expected things to be this dire. The weight of it shocked Xi Nanfeng, leaving him at a loss for comforting words.

Gu Zhizhou’s accident had undoubtedly dealt a heavy blow to Gu Moqian.

Finally, Xi Nanfeng understood why Gu Moqian had become so haggard in such a short time.

But there was one thing Xi Nanfeng still couldn’t make sense of. "Even if your father’s condition is severe, that’s not a reason for you to divorce Ji Wei," he said.

Gu Moqian turned his head and looked at him deeply, his tone suddenly icy: "Do you really think my dad’s car accident was just a coincidence?"

Xi Nanfeng froze, his body stiffening in shock. "What do you mean by that?"

Could Gu Zhizhou’s accident actually have been intentional!

"Leave. There’s no need for you to stay here and keep watch with me." Gu Moqian didn’t explain further, his voice cold as he dismissed him.

"The person who should leave is you." Xi Nanfeng stared him down and spoke firmly, "Old Mo, how long has it been since you’ve had a full night’s sleep? Go back immediately, Ji Wei is still waiting for you. I’ll watch over your father for you."

"I won’t see her."

Gu Moqian replied coldly, his refusal absolute.
