Chapter 602: Chapter 602: She’s Played Me

Study Room

Gu Moqian halted in his steps and turned around, his dark eyes fixed on Gu Zhimin as he said, "I know what you’re about to say. But my patience has its limits. Your daughter has repeatedly hurt my wife, and I won’t let it slide this time."

"Xiao Xin was indeed wrong. You’ve handed her over to Aunt, right? Aunt will surely discipline her properly when we get home. She’s still young. Locking her up isn’t appropriate," Gu Zhimin hurriedly said. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"Isn’t it a bit too late for discipline now?" Gu Moqian’s tone was heavy and brooding.

"Moqian, Aunt knows you’ve always held a grudge about what happened back then. But it’s been so many years. We’re family. Xiao Xin is still your younger sister. Could you..."

Before she could finish, Gu Moqian cut her off coldly, "If she truly thought of me as her brother, she wouldn’t do such things to hurt my wife!"

Gu Zhimin’s face alternated between red and white, her fists clenching tightly without her realizing.

As an elder, she had lowered herself to plead with him, yet he showed no gratitude, leaving Gu Zhimin feeling a sense of humiliation.

The study room sank into an oppressive silence.

"Moqian, the noodles are missing a bit of sourness. Can I add some vinegar?"

A soft voice suddenly broke the tension.

Gu Moqian lifted his gaze to see Ji Wei standing at the study room door, her bright, sparkling eyes looking at them.

The coldness on his face melted into a soft expression as he walked up to Ji Wei and said, "I’ll add it for you."

After Gu Moqian left, Ji Wei glanced at the pale-faced Gu Zhimin, unsure of what to say. Just as she was about to turn away, Gu Zhimin called out to her: "Ji Wei, can I ask you for a favor?"

Ji Wei froze for a few seconds before nodding. "Please go ahead."

...

When Gu Moqian returned, he happened to see Gu Zhimin walking out. As the two passed by each other, Gu Zhimin gave him a deep look.

He sensed something was off and hesitated for a moment in his steps.

However, Gu Zhimin didn’t stop and walked straight out of the living room.

Ji Wei was still in the study room.

"If you don’t hurry and eat, the noodles will get cold." Gu Moqian placed his hands on her shoulders, gently turned her around, and spoke softly.

Ji Wei looked at him and suddenly asked, "Moqian, did you lock Xiao Xin up?"

Gu Moqian’s expression tensed slightly, and his voice deepened. "Did she tell you?"

That "she," of course, referred to Gu Zhimin.

Ji Wei nodded. "Mm, Aunt told me everything. Xiao Xin posted online claiming that I pushed Lin Qian down the stairs. And regarding Shen Yu, she hasn’t let it go either and is still leaking information.

I guess the whole internet must be full of people cursing me right now! No wonder earlier this afternoon, Aunt Zhu came back and said there was a commotion outside the villa, with a crowd causing a scene until the security guards chased them away."

Gu Moqian’s grip tightened, and a flash of anger crossed his eyes.

Gu Zhimin was deliberately dragging Ji Wei into this!

He had worked so hard to protect her, yet she still found out.

No one could remain completely unfazed by others’ insults and slander, even though Ji Wei was a very strong woman.

He pulled her into his arms. "You don’t need to worry about anything. Don’t bother with what others say. You’ve done nothing wrong and shouldn’t have to endure such insults and criticism."

Ji Wei lifted her head from his chest and gazed at him intently. "Moqian, I know everything you’ve done, so I’m not afraid of anything." She paused momentarily before continuing, "But you should let Xiao Xin go. Keeping her locked up isn’t a solution, after all. She’s your aunt’s daughter."

What’s more, Jin Qichuan had helped her before, so this would count as repaying a favor.

"She hurt you; she needs to learn a lesson," Gu Moqian said, unwilling to relent.

Ji Wei studied his stern face and sighed suddenly. "Alright, I won’t interfere with this anymore."

She abruptly released him from her embrace, about to turn away when Gu Moqian pulled her back into his arms again. His deep voice sounded, "Are you throwing a tantrum with me?"

"No, I’m not." Ji Wei turned her head aside, avoiding his gaze.

"You’re not? Then why won’t you look at me?" Gu Moqian turned her face toward him, staring into her bright eyes with a slight hint of exasperation. "I’ll let her go, alright? Don’t be mad, okay?"

"Okay!" Ji Wei nodded emphatically, her brilliant smile lighting up her face.

Gu Moqian: "..."

This change in tone was so sudden that he realized he had been played by her!
