Chapter 361: Talismans

After it was done, Lin Xuan Qi took out the yellow talisman paper, talisman brush and cinnabar ink he had purchased in Wan Shou Fang.

He also took out the Daoist Five-Element Cultivation Techniques manuscript and flipped to the page that talked about making talismans.

There were many types of talismans he could make, that could be used for offense, like lightning, fire, water, ice, wind, rock and metal talismans.

And there were others that could help in different ways like shield, invisible, and healing talismans to help in defense or used as a part of a formation array.

The talismans had different rankings depending on the effects.

And much of the differences in rankings would come from the materials used, like the talisman paper, talisman brush and inks that were used.

What Lin Xuan Qi had gotten were the most rudimentary and basic, so he didn’t expect to be able to come out with something that was more than a Mortal Rank Talisman.

However, it was something new for him and he was eager to try it out.

Lin Xuan Qi read through the instructions and he decided to start trying with something that was simple, like the fire talisman.

Lin Xuan Qi held the talisman brush in his hand, injected his Five-Element Qi into it and dipped the tip of the brush into the cinnabar ink.

Then, he began to draw the scripture according to what was depicted in the manuscript.

He frowned when the ink smudged onto the talisman paper due to the brush being unable to take in his Five-Element Qi in a steady manner.

It wouldn’t have happened if the talisman brush he had was of a higher ranking.

Lin Xuan Qi continued and tried to see if it could still work with the little mishap that had happened.

He focused intensely on the brush and adjusted his Five-Element Qi accordingly when he saw too much ink coming out from the brush.

It took him much more effort to stay so focused while he drew the scriptures on the talisman paper.

Thankfully, he had enough Five-Element Qi to sustain it and he was finally done after an incense time.

Lin Xuan Qi picked up the fire talisman he had just completed and glanced at it.

Everything was the same as what was depicted in the manuscript except for the little smudge.

He frowned at it but he didn’t want to waste the talisman paper and ink that had been used to create the fire talisman.

Lin Xuan Qi held the fire talisman between his index and middle fingers and stretched out his hand.

After which, he injected his Five-Element Qi into the fire talisman.

The scriptures that were written on the talisman glowed but before he could hurl the fire talisman away from his hand, it burst into flames.

Lin Xuan Qi quickly let go of it and the burning talisman slowly floated down to the ground.

The flames stopped and the fire talisman turned into a small pile of ash.

He shook his head at the failure and he decided to have another try.

This time, he knew what would happen and he was much more careful while he drew the scripture, adjusting his Five-Element Qi whenever it was required.

Beads of sweat appeared on his forehead while he did so, and he had to stop intermittently to wipe them off.

Just in case they would drop and smudge onto the talisman paper.

It took more than an incense time for the second try but it was worth the careful attention.

Finally, when he was done, the scriptures on the fire talisman were perfect, looking exactly the same.

He held the fire talisman between his index and middle fingers again but he stopped himself before he tried it out.

Lin Xuan Qi got out from his bedroom and went to a patch of open space in the garden.

Using his Five-Element Qi, he injected it into the fire talisman and the scriptures gave out a red glow.

When he hurled it out into the air, the fire talisman flew and turned into a fireball that was half his height.

Its amber glow painted the surroundings in an amber hue.

Lin Xuan Qi quickly stopped it and the fireball dissipated, leaving a trail of smoke in the air.

It was a resounding success.

And he went back into his bedroom to continue creating more talismans.

Lin Xuan Qi tried his best and he created a few more fire talismans and several other types of talismans.

He also figured out that it was possible to inject his Five-Element Qi and place the talismans onto the wall or anywhere else, which would be triggered when someone went near or touched them.

Which would be useful for protecting the mansion or any other areas that he wanted.

It was a poor man’s form of a formation array but he wouldn’t mind.

Until he had the ability to get the necessary materials for making a formation array, this was good enough to use as protection for the time being.

Lin Xuan Qi stopped when he felt tired and had used up much of his Five-Element Qi.

He also didn’t have much talisman paper and ink left.

When he glanced at the depleted talisman paper with only a few sheets left, Lin Xuan Qi frowned and thought about going to Wan Shou Fang again the following night.

It would be a risk for him to do so, but he knew that he wouldn’t have such an opportunity as this in Hong Feng City.

No one knew who he was around here except for a few.

This gave him the freedom to do so much more without being found out by others.

He knew that he could also ask Lu Ting to procure the items for him, but he didn’t want her to know too much about what he was up to.

Who knew what would happen if the being inside her thumb ring woke up?

It was best for him to keep his distance from her.

On top of that, he knew what would happen in Wan Shou Fang now and he would be better prepared next time round.

Taking some necessary risks can’t be avoided in turbulent times like the Da Qian Dynasty.
