Claim Me Captain! I'm Addicted to You!-Chapter 303: Asking Too Much
Georgia’s POV
Wendy decided to stay in the penthouse with Nora, which honestly made perfect sense. She still couldn’t walk too much yet and preferred to rest, and I didn’t want to push her. So, I took Amara with me and Katie instead—it was time to see her in action.
When we arrived at the restaurant Evelyn had reserved for us, I immediately spotted Vicky waving from the corner table, her smile as bright as ever. Beside her sat Nick and Benjamin, both of whom turned when they saw us enter.
"Grandpa!" Katie squealed, her little voice ringing across the restaurant as she bolted toward Benjamin. He immediately opened his arms wide, catching her in a warm hug.
"Hello, my little sunshine!" Benjamin said, his face lighting up with pure joy. "You’ve grown prettier since I last saw you."
"Baby, congratulations to us!" I said as soon as Nick stood up and pulled me into his arms. That familiar warmth of his embrace instantly melted away the morning fatigue.
"The only thing missing now is the wedding," Nick murmured against my hair, smiling down at me. "Then everything will be perfect."
I chuckled, brushing my hand against his chest. "Don’t jinx it. Let’s just enjoy the day first."
"Guys, I already ordered a set menu," Vicky announced, grinning at all of us. "But feel free to add more if you want—Dad’s paying, so go wild."
"Very funny," Benjamin said with a playful roll of his eyes, but he didn’t deny it.
"Oh, before I forget," I said, motioning to the young woman beside me. "This is Amara, Katie’s new nanny."
Amara smiled warmly and extended her hand to each of them. "Nice to meet you all," she said politely. Then she handed them small cards from her bag. "Here’s my contact number, just in case you ever need to reach me or Katie directly."
I looked at Nick and couldn’t help but nod approvingly. Leaning close, I whispered, "I like her already. She’s professional. I wonder how much you’re paying her?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Nick chuckled under his breath. "A lot," he whispered back. "But I only want the best for our kids, so I don’t mind spending."
Before I could tease him for calling Katie "our kids" again—something that still made my heart flutter—the servers arrived carrying trays of beautifully plated food. The smell alone made my stomach growl, and we all took our seats around the table.
This was the first time Katie had a nanny other than Wendy, so even though I already liked Amara, I couldn’t help but keep an eye on her. Too much had been happening in our lives lately, and being cautious had become second nature to me.
Amara, however, handled everything with such calm grace that my worries started to fade. She gently helped Katie climb onto her chair, adjusted her dress, and tucked a napkin neatly at her neckline. Then, with another napkin, she covered Katie’s lap so she wouldn’t stain her clothes.
Katie giggled as Amara straightened the utensils for her. "You’re like a princess, Miss Katie," Amara said softly, making Katie beam with pride.
Watching the two of them, I felt my heart swell. It was such a simple moment, one that most people might overlook, but to me, it meant everything. After all the chaos, after all the battles and heartbreaks, seeing my little girl happy and cared for was the kind of peace I’d been craving.
And as Nick reached under the table to squeeze my hand gently, I realized—this, right here, was what home truly felt like.
"I won’t be going back to the penthouse after this," Prudence said softly, a bittersweet smile touching her lips. "I’ll head straight home. I’m both sad and happy about it. I miss my house, my cats, my chickens, and my plants—but I’ll miss all of you too, especially little Katie."
"Mom, don’t worry," Vicky chimed in. "We’ll come visit you on weekends."
Prudence chuckled and shook her head. "I know you will, sweetheart, but this weekend everyone will be busy preparing for the wedding. It’s next week already! I guess I’ll just see you all there," she said with a playful pout that made us all smile.
I hesitated for a moment, my hands twisting together nervously on my lap before I finally spoke. "About that, Mom... I’m actually a bit shy to ask this." I took a deep breath and met her curious eyes. "Since Violet and Dad are walking with Nick during the ceremony, and I... well, I don’t have my parents with me anymore, I wanted to ask if—if you would walk me down the aisle with Wendy."
The words came out shakier than I intended, and I immediately felt my cheeks warm. "I know traditionally, it’s supposed to be the bride’s mother and father, but I don’t have that. And I can’t imagine anyone else doing it other than you two.
I also want you to participate and not just sit with the crowd watching. This way, you don’t need to reveal your identity but can still participate, right? Or am I asking too much?"
The room fell silent for a moment. Everyone just stared at me—wide-eyed, speechless. My stomach twisted. Did I say something wrong? I couldn’t read their faces. Were they touched... or surprised?
Then Prudence suddenly stood, her chair scraping softly against the floor. Before I could even react, she wrapped her arms around me in a tight, emotional hug.
"Oh, sweetheart..." her voice trembled. "Thank you. It’s not too much at all. It means so much to me." Her eyes glistened with tears as she pulled back slightly, smiling through them. "I’d be honored, darling. I think this might be the only chance I’ll ever have, considering my other daughter here—" she glanced playfully at Vicky "—still refuses to get married."
We all burst into laughter, the tension instantly melting away.
"Hey! Me again?" Vicky protested, placing a hand over her chest dramatically. "One of these days, you’ll see! I’ll surprise everyone and announce that I’m already married!"
Nick chuckled from the other side of the room. "Are you copying me now?"
"No!" I said quickly, joining the laughter. "You didn’t even try to keep your marriage a secret, remember? But Vicky..." I smirked at her. "I actually believe her. She really might just show up one day with a wedding ring on her finger and say, ’Surprise!’"
Nick grabbed my face gently and gave me a quick kiss while no one was watching. "Thank you for doing this to my mom. I didn’t even think something like that. It means a lot to me. You just made me fall in love with you all over again."
