Claim Me Captain! I'm Addicted to You!-Chapter 302: Waiting for Eternity
Georgia’s POV
The day of Wendy’s hospital discharge finally came, and both Katie and I were so excited that neither of us got much sleep. Katie, in fact, woke up early on her own for the very first time—which, if you know her, says a lot about how thrilled she was.
Since it was a workday, I insisted that Nick didn’t need to come with us. The driver and bodyguards were enough, and I didn’t want him missing another day at work. He’s been skipping too often just to be with me, and as much as I adore him for that, I know he had a major project that needed his attention. So, after a little pouting and hesitation, he finally left for the office.
When Katie and I stepped into Wendy’s VIP hospital room, she was already standing by the bed, neatly packing her things.
"Nanna!" Katie squealed, ready to run straight into her arms.
But I quickly caught her hand. "Katie, sweetheart, don’t jump on Nanna Wendy. She’s still healing, remember? Be gentle, okay?"
Katie nodded obediently and tiptoed over instead, giving Wendy the sweetest, careful hug. "I’m so happy you’re coming home, Nanna! You’re going to love the penthouse. You can see the whole city from up there!"
Wendy chuckled, patting her head. "I’m sure I’ll love it. Anywhere you and your mommy are is a good place to be."
"Daddy too!" Katie added proudly. "But he’s only there at night and breakfast time. He’s funny, though—and he buys me everything I want! Except when Mommy says no, and she always does, but it’s ok."
We all burst out laughing, even Wendy, who shook her head with amusement.
"Wendy," I started gently once we settled down, "there’s just one little problem. Nick’s penthouse... well, it’s more of a bachelor’s pad. There are only three bedrooms. He turned his office into one, but Katie’s nanny is arriving today, and Prudence is already waiting for her there.
Nick also hired a full-time housekeeper two days ago and will share the office with the nanny in the meantime. So, I was wondering—would it be okay if you shared Katie’s room for a while? Just until the new house is finished?"
I hesitated for a moment before adding, "You’re family, Wendy. I don’t want you to ever feel otherwise, but things have just been so hectic lately—with the merger, the house construction, the agency, and the farm—I don’t think we’ll have time to renovate the penthouse for an extra room right now."
Wendy looked at me with that warm, motherly smile of hers and pulled me into a hug. "Oh, sweetheart. Why are you even worrying about that? Stop stressing yourself. Of course, I’ll stay with Katie. I’d love to. You don’t owe me anything—being part of your family already feels like winning the lottery."
Her words made my chest tighten in the best way. She continued, "You just focus on what you need to handle. I’ll take care of the rest. That’s what families are for, right?"
I smiled, my heart feeling full. "Alright then," I said softly, looping my arm through hers. "Everything’s already settled. All that’s left is for you to step out that door and come home with us."
Katie cheered beside us, and for a moment, the hospital room was filled with laughter and warmth—a small, perfect reminder that home wasn’t just a place. It was the people who loved you.
When we finally got home, Prudence greeted us with a grin so wide it practically reached her ears. She was standing right by the door, as if she had been waiting for us the entire time—hands clasped together, eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Finally! Waiting for you felt like waiting for eternity," she exclaimed dramatically, waving her hands in the air.
I laughed as I hugged her. "Traffic," I explained. "So, what’s going on? You look like you’re about to burst with good news."
Prudence’s grin only widened. "Oliver came by earlier, but he couldn’t wait any longer. He left this," she said, holding out a cream-colored envelope like it was a golden ticket.
My brows furrowed in curiosity as I took it from her and opened it. The moment I scanned the contents, my heart skipped. "Oh my God," I breathed, my voice trembling with disbelief. "Oh my God! Finally!"
Prudence clapped her hands in excitement, and I didn’t even realize I had hugged her until she started laughing.
"What is it?" Wendy asked impatiently, snatching the envelope from my hands. The moment her eyes landed on the papers, she gasped, her face softening with tears of joy.
I didn’t even wait for her to speak. I scooped Katie up into my arms, hugging her tight before spinning her around. "You are officially, legally my daughter now! The adoption is final, sweetheart! You’re mine, forever!"
Katie squealed, her laughter echoing around the room. "Yehey! I’m happy too!" she said, even though I knew she didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of what just happened. Still, her joy was infectious.
"Congratulations, dear!" Prudence said, her eyes misty but her tone full of pride. "We must celebrate! I’ll call my son and have him treat us to lunch. And I’ll head home later this afternoon. But before that..." She turned to me, all business again. "The new nanny has arrived, and I’ve already given her a quick briefing about the household and especially about Katie."
We all made our way to the living room, where two women stood waiting politely.
"Wendy," Prudence began, gesturing to the first woman, "this is Nora, our new housekeeper. My son has instructed her to make sure you don’t do any strenuous work or lift anything heavy while you’re still healing."
Nora, a woman in her thirties with fair skin and neatly tied brown hair, smiled warmly and gave a small nod.
"And this," Prudence continued, turning to the younger woman beside her, "is Amara, Katie’s new nanny. She’s twenty-three, and her credentials are excellent."
Amara had tanned skin, dark hair tied in a ponytail, and kind eyes that immediately put people at ease. She stepped forward, shook hands with Wendy and me, then bent down to Katie’s level with a friendly smile.
"Hello, Katie. I’m Amara," she said softly. "I used to be a kindergarten teacher, so I’m really excited to spend time with you."
Katie tilted her head shyly, hiding a little behind my leg, but I caught the faint smile forming on her lips.
"You’re a teacher?" Wendy asked curiously, and Amara nodded. "Then why switch to being a nanny?"
Amara hesitated for a moment before answering honestly, "Well, Mr. Knight’s qualifications for a nanny were very high, and to be frank, the salary is much better than what I earned teaching. But more than that, this job allows me to focus on just one child. It means I can give Katie the kind of attention and care that’s harder to do when you’re handling an entire class.
And I want you to know," she added earnestly, "I’m not just here to look after her. Mr. Knight made it clear that he wants someone who can help with her growth and learning, and I intend to teach her everything I know so she can grow up smart and confident."
Her tone was sincere but a little nervous, and I couldn’t help but laugh softly, which made everyone turn toward me.
"Sorry," I said, raising my hands in surrender. "It’s just funny seeing how Wendy and Prudence are the ones being so strict right now. I can’t blame them—they’re both like grandmas to Katie, and grandmas are always the most protective."
Amara let out a small, relieved laugh. "That’s alright, ma’am. Honestly, I think Mr. Knight is stricter and scarier than everyone else in this house combined."
We all burst out laughing at that, the room filling with warmth and lighthearted chatter.
"You’re absolutely right about that," I said, still grinning.
Even though the penthouse now feels cramped with everyone here, it felt fuller—not just with people, but with love, laughter, and the beautiful sense that our little family was finally complete.
